Paintworx Collision Center in Albany

I think a 3/5 is a happy medium. I had the unfortunate luck of hitting a dear in early December and my insurance recommended me this place and a certified shop. Looking at their google reviews and seeing the foreign vehicles they showcased, I had very high hopes of good work being done. About 3.5 weeks later I get a call saying that the vehicle is ready for pickup. Although they did a great job with the fender, bumper and hood replacement (I m not sure if they bought the parts already painted (and I say this because upon closer inspection of the paint work, I saw nothing but swirls all over the clear coat)), I had some issues with the rest of the work done to my wheels, alignment and headlight. After being told that genuine BMW parts were going to be installed on my car, I had some issues with the replacement headlight not aiming even with mechanical adjustment, my alignment was off center by 7-8° (alignment was done by a Mavis shop), and my TPMS sensor would not work. I brought the car in 3-4 that week after getting the car back to keep getting the headlight checked and TPMS sensor fixed but each time I kept getting the car back with the computer reset and nothing done to the headlight. Out of frustration, I watched the dash cam footage to see what they ve been doing and realized the techs themselves had no idea what to do with it. Tweaking with the mechanism for aiming the headlight, they had no luck either. The headlight that was installed was also aftermarket (AM). I don t have a problem with AM parts but I just wish they were honest about it from the beginning. ESP after a little over $13,000 went into the repairs. After realizing there was no BMW logo on the headlight they replaced, I brought it to their attention to which they finally ordered the genuine headlight and another TPMS sensor to fix the issue. Alignment was also corrected. Overall, I am happy with the final result. Amanda who is the front desk rep / parts person has been a pleasure to work with and she has been VERY helpful throughout the process. I think this was a learning experience for everyone involved including myself. German cars don t like AM parts and with all the computer controlled sensors in the vehicle, anything can go wrong any time.

Excellent work

The customer service was rude. We were told to arrive at 2:00 PM, and then told the car would take 30 minutes to be ready. Since it was very cold outside, and my father had to leave for work, I asked if I (just one person) could wait inside for those 30 minutes. They became angry and told me there was no waiting area, even though there were clearly seats in the lobby.

Almost a year ago I hit a deer and took my Toyota here to get repaired. It took weeks to fix, which was fine there was a lot of damage, however 1 day after receiving it back the headlights both went out. My insurance had me take it to a dealership who informed me that the entire fix had been done with after-market parts and many elements had not been fixed properly. The dealership had to re-fix the entire damaged area. I know they will try to dispute this as they do with all bad reviews, however they opened a claim with their own insurance after my insurance went after them for the fraudulent work that is now being reviewed and paid out. The original insurance claim was for about $12,000 in damage, my insurance has now had to pay over $20,000 and they have removed this business from their list of recommended collision centers. DO NOT BRING YOUR CAR HERE.

My new car was damaged and Paintworx fixed it as if the accident never happened. All staff were very friendly and helpful, especially Amanda.

Car was repaired post KiaBoys vandalism. Came back to me incredibly clean and seemingly in perfect working order. I ve only had it back 2 days so we shall see.

Kept changing the date the car would be ready. My car was sitting here for a week even though the part was already here. Tried to get a rental then drove here, all of a sudden the rental wasn t ready and I could wait an hour. The front desk people are awful. Communication goes a long way Also it s still not fixed despite me dropping it off to them twice and having to leave it there

DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR TO THIS MECHANIC. BEWARE. Their customer service is the worst. The receptionist will not let you finish your sentence before she cuts you off, and shes very rude. I dropped off my car on July 1st, 2024, with very minor scratches and a tiny dent. I was told during drop-off that my car would be ready by July 12th, on July 12th, they pushed off the pick up date to July 15th, on July 15th, they said July 16th, on July 16th, they said July 17th, and the runaround goes on and on. They have been holding up my car for almost 3 weeks now and no end in sight. The Estimated pick up date should not keep changing since they have all the parts they needed to fix the car. This shop will accept to fix your car, and then they will sit on it for weeks, knowing that they do not have the time to actually work on it. Also, if you go there with insurance coverage, theyll overcharge your insurance company; simply put, their estimate to fix your car will not have anything to do the actual work that that needs to be done. By overcharging your insurance, your insurance payments will go up during your next policy renewal because theyve paid so much during your claim. Save yourself the headache, the disrespect, and the lies and take your car somewhere else.

Business had me bring car in Tuesday morning. Didnt touch the car until after 3pm on Friday. Work took one hour. Work appears adequate. Had to rent car for the week. Paintworx could have had me drive in, assess the work/parts needed and let me drive back on Friday. Ridiculous! Will not go there again

In January 2023 I hit a deer in North greenbush, New York. I went through my insurance company and chose paintworx to do the repairs. Paintworx towed my car to their shop and began work in a very organized way. They stayed in touch with me via text through the whole process. They were efficient and quick with the work. My Subarus front end was repaired within 2 weeks! I wanted to wait until now before I did my review just to make sure everything was as it seemed and in fact it is. My car looks and runs like new. This is my second time visiting this business. First time my car was damaged while I was at work. Second time I damaged my car in the parking garage (took a turn too fast and too tight). I had damage on the passenger side rear door. This business is so professional and quick to respond. My car looks brand new again! I love the text messages that update you on the progress of the vehicle. The included detailing is the cherry on top. Although I hope to stop visiting these guys, if anything happens to my car again I will 100% use their services.

Can t communicate with customers and doesn t care if the car is not ready when promised. I had to take off two different afternoons only to be told it s not ready. Now I ll lrobly have to take another afternoon next week because they can t tell me what s going on. Very frustrating people! Update!! Well I m eating my words!! We know the owner Dave personally and saw him post his BMW X3 courtesy vehicle up for rent over the weekend through his Worx Rental Car program. We currently live out of state in NC and were planning a return visit to NY weeks later. I contacted him and asked if we could secure a rental vehicle for our trip. He agreed and offered a more then competitive price, saving us hundreds of dollars. As you can imagine business can be unpredictable in his line of work and when the day arrived all of his courtesy vehicles were in use. However, because Dave is a man of his word he loaned us one of his own personal vehicles to use instead. I do not know any other company owner who would do that! It was clean and ready to go with zero delay. The day we were set to fly home our flight was delayed seven times for a total of 3.5 hours. Dave was very understanding and super flexible and allowed us to leave the vehicle after hours, at our convenience. Thank you Dave for your outstanding customer service.

Repair was OK. Problem was the rental car they gave me. It was 10 years old with 131,000 mile on it with odor in the cabin, windshield wipers in need of changing, and it self locked without pressing on the Fob through some defect, unfortunately with the key within but out of the ignition as I walked around the car to remove a gym bag from the passenger seat. Paintworx would not accept my version of what happened, charged for opening the car with a second key, and the owner refused to discuss the incident with me saying There is nothing wrong with the car. They would not return my car keys until I paid a fee to reopen the car. This is appalling customer service. Paintworx should be apologizing for this self locking incident, not charging me for it. I would never use this business again and will inform my insurance company and the Better Business Bureau of this incident. DO NOT RENT A CAR FROM THIS BUSINESS.

They told me its $30 for an estimate. Im not using insurance and paying cash. Also, I plan to get several estimates. Then they said that because my car is old (2012), its $50 for an estimate. So, if I get more estimates, Im supposed to spend $100 or more, just for an estimate. I guess that I wont be doing business with them. Plus, its attached to Dotts garage. Just fyi. Months later... Well, I got 4 people to avoid you. I found several places with free estimates and got really good body work. I recommend Loucks in Slingerlands/Delmar.

Short review: Avoid at all costs they do not repair cars well. I had an accident in February and did not get the car back until June. The bumper and headlights were loose when I got the car back. AC, hazard lights, and steering wheel horn did not work after the repairs. Another collision shop uncovered that parts were removed and never put back on to my car. They also found a rusting frame in the car. Absolutely true review I have receipts and poor customer service. If you have your car there they will not allow you to see it. You call for answer and they are very combative.

I have had 2 repairs done by Paintworx. The first was due to a back end collision in a parking lot which bent the back bumper. The guy who did it wouldnt own up to it and drove off. Paintworx did an excellent repair job in 4 days. The second repair was to the front end bumper apron and involved an 8 day repair. Paintworx did a beautiful job but now the car needs an alignment because of where I hit the parking berm.

I was not sure where to turn when the entire trunk lift trim snapped off in subzero temperatures. Having Paintworx provide an amazingly simple insurance claim previously had me turn to them for this unusual request. Paintworx staff (Jim) made me aware of backordered parts and a long wait list. Had collision repairs on my Honda CR-V done at this shop about 3 years ago. The bottom moulding on driver- side door kept popping out after a while and completely finally fell off. I found out instead of using new parts as they claimed on my insurance, they instead stapled the damaged clips back onto the old molding. Went back to Paintworx to ask for warranty repair and they refused claiming it was the drivers responsibility, despite presenting them evidence of their shoddy repair. Not only are they uncommitted to their warranty but they have potentially committed insurance fraud.

After my car was struck by another driver while I was parked in a parking garage I brought my insurance claim and vehicle to Paintworx Collision. I ve never had damage to a vehicle before and I was clueless. Paintworx collision did all the work and made my car look brand new! The text messages letting me know the progress on my vehicle were great! I would highly recommend this business for cosmetic repair of your vehicle!

Dont know how they have 4.5 stars...must be family members pretending to be customers. Took them 3 months and 3 visits to fix 1 problem. At the end, held my car hostage for a an extra week because they messed up paperwork with the insurance company. I was ignored, I was lied to about the repairs, and car status. I had to pay out of pocket hundreds of dollars for rentals because of their incompetence.

So I went to another Auto Body place they told me they could have my vehicle for months in order to find parts, I came to paintworx Collision 1175 Central Avenue and theyve got my vehicle fixed in a matter of 3 weeks and they went above and beyond to find parts and the correct paint which is a custom paint to get my truck fixed and back to me as soon as possible. The work is superior work. I highly recommend them. It is absolutely perfect like the day I bought it. I could not be happier. My damage was caused by hitting a small female deer.

If you like your collision center to give you your vehicle back looking worse than when you dropped it off (twice) go to paintworx. If you like your collision center to keep your vehicle for multiple weeks for 2 small dents go to paintworx. If you like your collision center to write a detailed bill charging your insurance for stuff they didn t actually do (insurance fraud) go to paintworx. I made a huge mistake bringing my brand new truck here to get fixed take my advice and stay far away from paintworx. After sharing my story with friends and coworkers I ve heard nothing but the same complaints about subpar work and insurance scams.

I went through insurance and had repairs done to my vehicle at this shop on august 15th. I had never been in an accident before, nor have I ever went through insurance before so I was completely new at this. When I went to pick up my vehicle, I was told by the secretary to give them my check from insurance as it covered all the repairs . I handed the check over and went home to find the balance on my receipt from Paintworx to be much less than the check I had given them. I called the company numerous of times and they refuse to give me back the remaining money on the check that is rightfully mine. As a young woman who has never been in this situation before I feel I have been taken advantage of by this shop. Not only did the secretary not tell me I was giving her a check for more than what was due, they refuse to work with me in giving me back the remaining balance. I do not recommend this place solely based on customer service.

I had front end damage.They got me in quickly for the estimate, repairs, and did a great job. They also did a great job cleaning my car up nicely. They had it looking new! Thank you, Paintworx Collision Center!

My truck was in for repair went I. 45675 for miles came back to me 45888 ask where my truck went also my driver door and window where damaged I recommend not to use them obviously was driving my truck

Very poor customer service, no communication at all on the progress of my vehicle.

This shop was recommended by my insurance company (Hartford) to repair some storm damage on my car. There were some significant dents and scrapes on my roof and right front fender. They made my car look like new in just over a week and provided me a loaner car during this interval. The staff were terrific. I would highly recommend Paintworx for autobody repairs!

Paintworx did a great job repairing my mini! They were professional and they kept me informed of the progress. They said the repair would be done by a particular date and it was done in that timeframe! I was very happy with my car and the experience there.

Update - 11/22/22 the repairs look good. They corrected deficiencies on 2nd try. Original post - Ill start by saying that this review in in flux simply because I have yet to see the repairs in daylight. The delivery date originally was 11/8, however I was told the work was done the afternoon on the 10th. When I arrived at 8:30 on the 11th is was another hour wait. When my car was brought out, there was front fender molding loose, rear wheel molding scraped and not replaced. There was dirt speaks throughout the paint in the replaced panels. I left the car for these deficiencies to be corrected. 3 days later, I receive a call that my car is ready. I will update this review if I find that the issues were not resolved. The single biggest factor in my rating was the poor customer service. I called 4 times to speak with the owner (I wanted to inquire about A/M vs. Used OEM parts. Dave Strupf left me 1 voicemail, and never returned my call. When a small business owner receives 4 calls from a customer with questions, the owner of that business needs understand the optics of their actions. While I realize Dave was trying to explain why the issues occurred, what he doesnt grasp is that customers are not interested in explanations. The other negative reviews demonstrate his willingness to argue based on his responses. Its interesting that one of the pictures shown by Paintworx on Google is a building that doesnt exist. My expectation is that Dave has a dream building, however his indifference to his customers will keep him in the small space he currently occupies. Im sure this review just voided my repair warranty, but its cool, there are better options in the Albany, NY area.

The pleasant woman at the front desk was friendly, patient and professional. She worked diligently to set me up a timely appointment. Her knowledge in dealing with the insurance was helpful. I was satisfied with the body work done on the bumper of my car and would certainly recommend them to others.

I have used paintworx before in the past with no issues this time around they returned my car after a long 3 months after an accident and my passenger side door handle trim was missing i told them about it the day i went to pick up my car and they said they would order it for me n get it fixed no problem weeks go by and when i ask them about what happened with it they acted like it never happened! And try to blame it on audi who did my alignment and now paintworx refuses to replace a part that they took off my car! Its unbelievable! Ill never go back after this.

Paintworx did an excellent job repairing my Subaru Crosstrek after an accident. I used them as they were a preferred repair center per my insurance company. The car was ready when promised. I called them a few times to check on progress and they were always friendly and helpful.

Paintworx did an awesome job repairing my Chevy truck after a small accident! They worked alongside Allstate, my insurance, to provide a very reasonable estimate. My experience with this company was straight forward and I was kept updated on my car s repairs and I was pleased.

Dave & his staff were very courteous & professional. Our 2018 vehicle had been rear ended. After repairs were done, you cant even tell our vehicle was in a collision. Fast forward to March 2020. We had to use Paintworx for a 2nd time after the above mentioned vehicle was rear ended again. Awesome repair job. Can t even tell there was damage. I highly recommend Paintworx.

After my bumper was hit in a parking lot, I brought my car here to get it fixed and they handled it with the highest standard of care. They took care of all of the insurance contacts for me, so I didnt have to worry about any of that. I heard about Paintworx and there work through a friend, I m new to Albany so I would ve went wherever he said but when I went for the quote I immediately felt like I made a good choice. The office is clean and sanitized, they are super professional and the owner Dave came out to do the quote. Made it feel personal and like I was taken care of. These guys are the best!! I have a new car, 3 months old. Had a run in with a trash can at 50mph. Needless to say the trash can was unscathed but my bumper was not. :( Dave, the owner and his team did an amazing job. The car is back to new again! You cant tell the bumper has been replaced. The paint matches perfectly! They also kept me updated by text and with phone calls the whole way through. I had gotten into a minor fender bender and was found at zero fault. Paintworx Collision Center worked with the other guys insurance to quickly return my car to me. I didnt have much damage, but where the damage was made it seem tricky and the car looks good as new - as if it had never even happened. I really appreciated the updates via text as they went along as well. Will be going back if I ever need anything else done and recommend them highly to everyone.

Im hard to impress, but the team at Paintworx far exceeded my expectations. Upon arrival the first thing I noticed was how focused the guys in the shop were while working on the vehicles. This was refreshing considering the number of times I have experienced employees at other businesses slacking off. When it was time for my estimate, the owner came out personally to give me a quote on the spot. I particularly appreciated the time he took to explain what needed to be done to my vehicle and why. Despite being extremely busy with the multitude of cars in the parking lot waiting to be fixed; the work done on my car was not rushed. The work took four days and it came out absolutely perfect! My car looks better than it did when I picked it up from the dealership. I hope my car isn t hit again, but if it is I can rest easy knowing I ll be getting the best service in the area. Running a small business is hard enough, let alone in the midst of a pandemic, yet the entire team at Paintworx was fantastic! Dave and his team did a fantastic job painting my Harley! They painted the tank, both fenders and did some minor body repair (check out the fantastic pics on their Facebook and Instagram). They completed the work in the time the said for the around price they estimated. No B.S. I highly recommend their services. Id give em six stars out of five if I could.

Brought my car in with a cracked bumper...I went to another shop to get an estimate and when I got an estimate from Jim W...he explained another option that was more cost friendly, and it looks just like new. He handled all the insurance details for me as well. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Nice guys running it but..... called 5 times for estimate, took over a week. Told me 4 times would do it that day. Specified that I wasnt going through insurance , was a cash sale. Wrote up estimate like its insurance. Estimate was way higher than other 2 I got. Tho the other places listened as I didnt need factory repairs done. Were able to repair some parts not replace.

Had to get my bumper, grille and other parts replaced after something hit my 2021 Kia Telluride. They were very friendly and completed the work in a timely fashion. Would absolutely use them again

I chose Paintworx for auto repair after a minor accident. The staff were very friendly and professional, making the process very seamless and easy. After I gave them my estimate, they completely handled the rest and made sure to communicate with me every step of the way. I would definitely recommend! Made the process a lot less overwhelming.

Great customer service! Very professional! Can t recommend enough!!

I chose Paintworx because I grew up with Dave s wife. He was supposed to repair a front end collision. As soon as I went to pick the car up Dave started asking if the headlight sensors were already going off. I explained that they were fine before the accident and he basically sent me home with a car that wasn t fixed properly. I sent the car back and the insurance company cut him another check to repair the faulty headlights. He then dropped my car off at the dealership where he abandoned it for 4 months. It wasn t until I contacted kneeler where they explained they have been trying to get ahold of Dave. It he never would return their calls. All they were waiting on was a payment. Dave refused to pay them the money travelers insurance gave him and I ended up having to pay out of pocket. Thebodywork wasn t great ether. The new hood hangs to far over the front bumper and the paint already started peeling. Keep in mind I grew up with his wife and this is the experience I had. Also don t believe the star rating. His wife literally just posted on her Facebook begging friends and family to go and give them a 5 star rating because a few customers gave them 1 star. I never wanted to give them a bad review because I know her personally, but her husband Dave is a crook and I wouldn t want anyone else to go through what I had to and now what seems others have as well

Im writing this as someone that has been in the automotive field for 35+ years and restored cars for 25+ years professionally. My daughter had a vehicle repaired by Paintworx Collision Center after a small collision. My daughter relocated to where Im living and got a chance to take a look at the work done by Paintworx Collision Center some 3 or so months after the repairs. Unfortunately the work was not done to a very high standard. The repairs simply show a complete lack of care. The two lower fender bolts were missing, attachment point on the LH side of the bumper cover was broken so the bumper does not stay attached to the fender, plastic bracket that attaches the fender to the bumper cover is broken/stripped out, clip that attaches the LH fender/mirror trim was missing, small rubber seal no two-sided tape as per factory. And most disturbing of all is that the LH front wheel is out of round/bent. I called and spoke to Jim, he assured me that the things I found could not be the case and inferred that all this happened after the repairs. I sent pictures and a video of the issues and bent wheel to Jim and he promised to call me back. More than a week later still no call, I called Jim once again and he still inferred that all this happened after the repairs but promised to call me back the next day. A week later still no call. I called again and now he is busy and has not returned my call. To answer Jims assertion that the issues happened later: The broken fender cover has paint on the plastic where the piece is missing, it was repainted while broken. The fender bolt could have fallen out after the fact but only if they were not tightened at the time of the repair. Trim clip and two-side tape? They simply are not there. The plastic bracket was probably stripped out/broken because it was over tightened trying to hold the broken bumper cover in place. The wheel? could have happened after but since this is the only collision the vehicle has had since the repairs not sure how that could happen. Since the repairs show such a lack of care it simply points to the fact that the wheel was never checked. This is a Mazda and not a high dollar vehicle, is this how they repair all vehicles or just the low dollar ones? I can only go by what my years of experience tell me and this vehicle was not repaired properly or with any care so my recommendation is to find another shop that does care! Why so many 5 star views? I found out that if you give them a 5 Star review you get freebees! Do the right thing and stand behind the work done (or in this case not done) and make it right! Where possible I have posted pictures of the issues.

Excellent workmanship and price.

Had my car there to fix a sprung door, they told me it would take roughly two or three weeks. We (my family and I) figured that would be okay considering we could probably take an uber to school and work. However it ended up taking about 2 months as over time excuses became more prevalent. First they mentioned a second insurance check was needed which seemed okay. Then they said they were waiting for the parts, which was fine. As time went on, we received more excuses such as low employees, still waiting for parts, etc. Sometimes just nothing to say. As time went on we asked for a rental, and as time went on, we had to pay more for the rental ($40/day) due to the fault of the company, putting off my repair week by week. After speaking with Amy about my frustration, she helped to make sure we only payed for two weeks of the rental. However we were very unsatisfied with the timing it took to fix my car. I am pleased with the repairs, and Amy s empathy. Nevertheless, the company lies. I have text messages of them putting off my car repair as proof. Edit: Because my car was just sitting there for roughly a month or two, the battery has to be replaced.

Worst place dont go here

I brought my 2018 subaru sti to paintworx after a large tree branch had come down on top of it. This was my second time going to paintworx and I informed Dave the owner that the first time they went way over their timetable and he assured me that would not happen. Well after quoting me 10 days on my work for my sti it took them well over a month to complete. Upon receiving my vehicle the battery was dead and my accessport which is an aftermarket ecu and boost control reader, was completely fried. On top of that my interior panel where it hides the electrical on my driver side was completely broken off because they took the liberty of rerouting my accessport cord when the work had nothing to do with the interior. That plastic peice still is just sitting on the ground in my passenger. When I addressed the problem I was greeted with a laugh and oh well atleast its not crazy expensive ($165 to fix electrical) instead of offering to make it right. The paint was good and am satisfied with that part of the experience but overall there are much better and more professional shops around.

Paintworx repaired my car after it was backed into. They were extremely helpful and got my car in for repairs quickly! I was conveniently kept updated on the progress on my car through text message. My car looked absolutely beautiful when I picked it up and I was so pleased with their work.

I can not believe that I have not been contacted about Paintworx messing up my cars back up camera and Radio after Jim stated that they didn t do it. The mechanic admitted that it was working when he was driving the car. I emailed, messaged on Facebook and called. Nothing! I live in Texas and this has been a hold up since 11-5-2021! THIS IS UNPROFESSIONAL AND UNACCEPTABLE!

I went there as advised by my insurance company for an estimate. They never provided the estimate nor notified me why. Business must be good for them.

Initial repair to vehicle (dent/scratch repair) visually seemed fine. Since repair, garaged car has rusted, notably ONLY where repaired. I contacted Paintworx as their website claims: we stand behind our work and are proud to offer our Lifetime Guarantee on our paint finishes and repairs for as long as you own your car. NOPE. They say the elements did this (weird for the elements to specifically target the location of this repair), and there is nothing they can do. They also apparently needed to look at my car on two separate days to make this determination. We wont be returning or recommending this place.

I called for an estimate, as their site says they do custom work. I just needed some basic paint work done. Well I was completely blown off when the guy on the phone heard that I wasnt getting insurance related repairs done. I was told that they couldnt even give me an estimate until some distant unknown date. Apparently I wasnt a big money maker. So much for custom. By the end of the conversation it was obvious he wasnt even listening.

The folks at Paintworx were professional and did excellent work on my vehicle. I found them because they were recommended through my insurance claim. Everything looks great, part of my front bumper was torn off and some damage to the undercarriage were both taken care of and look even better than before the damage occurred. They sushi had my vehicle ready earlier than their estimate. I highly recommend them for body work on your vehicles.
