I would go back here over and over to rent. Best customer service at any Avis or Hertz location. I’ve been in the past year.
My husband has rented from Avis before, and this was by far the worst experience in terms of vehicle cleanliness. The rental process inside was quick and efficient, which I appreciated. However, the condition of the truck we received was unacceptable. The exterior was completely unwashed, and the interior was no better—stains on the leather seats, dirt and debris throughout, and no front mats, which made dealing with snow and mud a mess. It didn’t even seem like they attempted to clean the vehicle before handing it off. I had to wipe down the interior myself, which should not be necessary when renting a car. Beyond the inconvenience, I’m also concerned about whether we’ll be charged extra for the vehicle’s existing condition. It left me questioning the overall maintenance standards at this location. Avis, please do better—cleanliness should be a basic expectation for any rental car service.

Efficient desk, friendly but focused on speed. Rented a specific car type (mini van) and it was there waiting for us. Only had 3k miles on it. And you get to avoid all the airport fees. The pin on Google Maps is wrong though. It’s just around the corner from Floor & Decor. Door 5.
I recommend you avoid this location if you can. Staff could use lessons in good manners. Rude and unhelpful is an understatement. Vehicles are not in the top quality that you would expect.
Very difficult to find the place the return my car. The Google map cannot direct to the correct place (entrance 5). Should have some direction and guide! The return guide said A23. It’s actually in parking A28!
I was rented a car with a rear tire that has sidewall damage and was flat by the next morning. Lost half a day of use to have it repaired because I couldn’t get anyone to pick up for roadside assistance. Unfortunate and dangerous. I’ve had good experiences in the past with Avis. Not this time. Update 8/26: I emailed to the social media email address below with the case number 347208 and still no response.
For your own safety, avoid this Avis and use a rental car location out of an airport. I received a car and drove it for 6 miles on the highway. Something felt very off with the handling. I felt disconnected with the road, the car vibrated left to right, and would not maintain a straight line without correction. I pulled over thinking my tires were flat or my wheel alignment was off. Turned out my front tires were COMPLETELY BALD. The metal fibers on the inside of the tire were showing. These tires are not legal to drive and put me and others on the road at risk. The level of neglect is unbelievable. I refused to drive any further and called emergency roadside assistance to tow the vehicle. The tow took 3 hours. I had no ability to contact the Avis location as the number listed sends you to the national line.
The vehicles I rented have always been modern.

Has car trouble went to Goldsteins for service they weren t able to service it until Tuesday today is Saturday and they didn t have a loaner until Tuesday . So I got a rental I ordered it at 12 went in at 2 to pick it up the guy at the counter said oh you ordered it a couple minutes ago nooo hours ago and then he said I don t have any cars they are all late coming back I had to be at work in an hour so I just turned and walked out and had to go else were .

When you read the review of car company stating you need a flight to book a rental with debit..you know they havent been around united states. Other states offer rental on debit and telling a customer to get a credit card isnt a solution - they just dont want to deal with debit cards.

We reserved a small SUV for a 5 day trip to the area. We were looking for the location and couldnt find where it was in the mall. So we called....and called...and called. We reached the main Avis number and the individual who barely spoke English was pretty sure there is no such place as Albany, New York. We finally found it by walking the entire mall. The man working there was just sitting as we could hear the phone ringing the whole time. I asked why he didnt answer the phone. He said that it was extra work and he didnt have to answer phones. He said the computers dont work, so it would be impossible to confirm my reservation. Yet, when I gave him my last name, he said my first name as he entered it on the computer. They didnt have the car we requested and offered a pickup truck. We had to settle on a Budget Jeep that was difficult for my 64 year old wife to climb into. When others arrived, it was clear that no one is satisfied with this location. People were complaining constantly about all kinds of issues. It was pretty clear that the man working there didnt care in the least whether people were satisfied or not.
Beware of the accounting procedures. the rental is based on a strict 24 hour period. 1 minute over the 24 hours and you are charged an extra full day. If your rental period ends at 09:00 hrs and you try to return the vehicle on a Saturday or Sunday, the counter only opens at 10:00 hrs. You will be charged another full day. Go to another agency that has a bit of common sense built into their accounting procedures.
The person at the counter is very friendly and helpful. I m grateful for his service. From now on I ll be renting from this location and will be recommending to my friends and family.
***STAY AWAY*** My wife returned the rental to the Avis in Colonie Center and was up charged for not returning the rental with a full tank when the tank was full. The employee was extremely unhelpful and closed out her rental prematurely so that she couldn t top the tank off charging us $38 for no reason other than to be extremely difficult.
Vehicle not cleaned properly. Gum on one of the seat which caused damage to a dress my mom was wearing. Paid for vehicle to be cleaned at a car wash with interior cleaning. I explained this to associate and he stated they don t offer reimbursement. Called and stated I was running 30-40 min late due to traffic and associated said it would be an additional $200 dollars. Bad business and customer service.

Slow and disorganized
The car pick up was easy. The office was not crowded and the staff was friendly. The car was clean and in good driving condition. The return was quick and easy as well.

Absolutely the worst Car rental company. EVER. I was going to NC from NY to go visit my family. Had a small car so then Avis was the only option that I had to get a rental car. Got a full sized mini van for 400 dollars. And got scammed by the guy who asked for 200 more for reasons that I still dont know of. PLEASE DO NOT RENT A CAR FROM THIS COMPANY.

Unfortunately, i don t think I ll be renting from that specific Avis(colonie center). The car made noise every time you gave it gas, the vehicle was also stained. I had to find the car myself, the Manager didn t even walk me to the car and do the normal look around. The day of drop off was horrible, i was told i would be able to drop it off and hour late with no charge, then they tried to add an extra $82. The manager said he would wave that fee( after all he was the one who gave me that information). The other worker was more calm and pleasant to work with( although he/we had to wait for the manager for over 29 mins(again) just to return the vehicle .

We had a nice experience at this Enterprise today. We were picking up for a long rental and got a really nice car with only 2,000 miles on it. It was a hybrid too. Muhammad was the employee that helped us. He was really nice and he was patient with us while we rebooked our reservation so we could get Avis loyalty points. He made sure the car was cleaned, sanitized, and ready to go for us. Great interaction and were very happy with the car!

This was my first time renting from Avis Car Rental. Comparing with other car rental companies, theirs was the best price. Everything was completed on-line, so picking up my car took just 5 minutes to sign paperwork and pick up my keys. Dropping off was just as easy, in and out in just 5 minutes. I loved my rental car: a 2022 Honda HRV. This car had all the bells and whistles I needed and it was so easy to drive. I definitely will rent again from Avis.

Overall great experience and quick in and out. Vehicle was nice and clean, ran well....no problems whatsoever other than the location is a little rundown and hard to find as its inside of a mall. Larger signage would be helpful. No shuttle from airport so I spent $15-$18 each way on Uber to get there.
I would never recommend Avis at 131 Colonie Center, Albany, NY 12205 ever! The experience was ridiculous. The man at the counter did not know what he was doing and processed my initial rental with the addition of random fees that even he could not explain. He proceeded to call his manger, Muhammad, on his cell phone for help. Muhammad was nowhere on site. It was as if Muhammad decided not to show up to work and told his little brother to man the front desk while he chilled at home. When we finally got the car it reeked of smoke. We had to go back and switch the car. The man at the counter did not know how to do this as well and called Muhammad on his cell AGAIN. It was like the wizard of oz and Muhammad was on the other side of the cell phone pulling the strings. Horrible experience here. NEVER AGAIN.
No one told me that if I needed to extend, the daily rate wouldn t be locked in. My daily rate was $63/day, but when I needed to extend the rental, the rate magically changed to $160something per day. I was furious and wanted to return the car immediately, but that wasn t an option either because, unlike other rental companies, you can t drop a vehicle off after-hours. They got $160 out of me that I never intended to spend.
Horrible service. I rent two cars from them on two different occasions. Those cars had expired tags. The second time I rented the car. I actually asked them to check and see if it was expired and they said it wasnt. Will never use them again. Also cant get in touch with them on the phone. Horrible, horrible experience.

HORRIBLE.! DONT EVER RENT CAR HERE! My husband and I rented a car paid for up front with our debit card and then went to pick the car up and was told we could not rent the car because his credit wasnt good enough on his debit card for a $200 deposit even though we had tons of money in the account. The refund will take 3 to 5 business days and we now cannot rent a vehicle for our family for the next 3 to 5 days. Jobs might be lost children wont be fed and the company does not care.

Absolutely Horrible Service !! This Location is Very unprofessional , they accused me several times for smoking in the vehicle when I have definitely not smoked in any of my rentals nor do I smoke. I have also complained before leaving the lot with the vehicle that the car reeks of smoke they don t do anything but say they will take note of it and then when I go to return it I get blame for it stinking like smoke. Doesn t even make any sense!! I use to highly recommend everyone I know to go to Avis/Budget but after my last few experiences I will no longer do business with them or recommend anyone to go to this location!!

The people were not there when we returned the car, so it costed it me another day. They had a be right back sign at 5:30 and they close at 6 pm.

Branch is a joke. Our car lacked a license plate and an up to date inspection. Missed by 18 months. Billing errors and lots more. Colonie, NY franchise makes Avis look incompetent and inept!

Way under staff 30 plus min pick up same with drop off car was good a little dirty though but I guess everyone is understaffed right now but the fact I have been sitting outside the office for more 30 min for a return is unreal

The first time I reserved a car and when I went to pick it up they had NO cars available. I had plans for a trip and had to cancel. The agent didn t try to get me a car or anything. He just kept apologizing and saying they didn t send any cars to that location. I feel he could have done better. If I make reservations then a vehicle should be provided.
Charged $988 for a 5 day rental first web site says $474 for 5 days. The first vehicle was disgusting covered in bird feces and they wanted me to take it. Ez did not work had to pay tolls all around horrible experience will go with enterprise next time.
This Review is in regards to my recent rental experience at the Albany Colonie Center location. On 7/22 I picked up my rental from that location it was for a full size SUV the agent gave me a 2020 Pathfinder. The rental was a one way with a return location of Charlotte North Carolina. On 7/25 I started my trip home at 10:00am and 60 miles north of Harrisburg PA the tire went flat and I had to pull off the highway. I called Roadside assistance And after sitting on hold for 30 minutes finally reached an agent and was advised they put in the request and would send a text with ETA. I waited 30 more minutes my husband was calling for me as well from agent to agent 4 1/2 hours later the roadside arrived and put the spare on which happened to be a donut. I could not continue another 600 miles on a donut so once again both myself since I was traveling alone and my husband who was home and concerned and calling on my behalf called Avis to get a replacement vehicle both of us were told no similar vehicles were found Near my location and since the car was drive-able nothing could be done! The car was not drive able it was a full size suv with a donut! I made my way to Harrisburg and finally found a shop that had an in stock tire that I had to pay for by this time it was 5:00 and I was finally back on the road. The tire that went flat had previously been plugged by the Albany location and was not fit for a trip of this length additionally the tire had wires showing on the inside of the tire. I could have been killed should that tire of blown on the highway. Albany was aware of the bad tire and I found a slip for service on that tire on 7/19 three days before my rental! So as a woman traveling alone 900 miles they gave me a vehicle that was unsafe and should have been properly fixed they took shortcuts and chose to leave a bad tire on that car. I sat on the side of the road for hours and could have. Been seriously injured because of their unsafe practices. I am requesting this be addressed immediately and I request a full refund for this rental. My rental was to end on Tuesday 7/28 I returned the car on Sunday 7/26 the moment the Avis store opened to get rid of it. Even that agent made notes on the tire because he looked at it (I made sure to turn in the bad tire with the rental so I placed it in the back) and was appalled by its wear and damage. I don t know how this could an acceptable practice and I am frustrated by the lack of care for customer safety. I am including pictures of the tire where the plug blew out and the inside wires and wear. There are Copious notes in the system with regard to this entire situation. Please contact me immediately to advise how this can be resolved I am requesting a full refund and I do not expect to be billed an additional charge for the roadside service! This was the worst experience I have ever had and I will take further steps if this is not resolved.

Nice car, good staff in Albany 131 Colonie Center. BUT, a strong smell of tobacco and cannabis killed me all drive long. Stop allowing to smoke pipe in the vehicle. I know its legal in most of states but legal does not mean that everyone likes this smell.
At first my reservation said a car would be available. When I got to place there were no cars. I was given a mini van. I wasnt pleased but I guess it was better than nothing. The gentleman working the counter was nice and pleasant very respectful. I will rent again just hope to get what I reserve next time.

I needed to rent a car to go to Hartford Connecticut. I had very good service with the representative on the phone and everything was very simple in English or French. I rent cars in Canada but this was the first time in the United States I highly recommend AViS Car Rental. By phone or at any airport. I had already done business with them in British Columbia and the service was perfect.

I rented a full size car a month before my trip and paid online. Our Prius was not large enough for the trip. The Colonie Center store had one person behind the desk, multiple people waiting. The people just ahead of me had rented a minivan and paid for it online and were told there was no car for them. They were eventually given something else while all of us waited. We were told our car was being cleaned and would be ready in 20 min. Our reservation was for 12 and it was already 12:30. When we got our keys, we had to go down a bird poop filled staircase to the cars. In no way was this small Kia suv a full sized car. The trunk was smaller than my Prius. Too late now to go to another rental company. I also discovered when I got home (I didnt look in the store because I just wanted to get out of there, I was boiling mad) that they did not refund my full payment, even though I never even got in the car they gave me. I had to call Avis help to get the refund. Beware!!
No after hour returns. Avis didn t has a size of the car I booked. So they suggest me pay difference to bigger one.

Worst rental experience Ive ever had. DO NOT RENT FROM THIS LOCATION EVER. If I could give less than 1 star I would. Absolutely the rudest employees Ive ever experienced. I expect any positive reviews are from employees and or friends/family of whoever owns this branch (aka fake positive reviews). I prepaid for a full size SUV a week ahead of time, and on my way to pickup I called ahead to double-check. They had no SUVs available in any of their locations. They then offered a 12 passenger van as the only option, but said they would have to charge me more. When I began to question the woman working the front desk she hung up on me. I then spent 2 hours on the phone with their customer service and was transferred 4x, only to have to repeat the situation 4x. DO NOT RENT FROM HERE.

Car was dirty. I asked for ford explorer and got dodge journey. Much smaller. 3rd row seats not useful for teenage sons at all. Ford explorer is significantly larger
I had a horrible experience - from the moment I went to pick up the vehicle until I dropped it off this morning. The final comment by the manager on duty was...the car should have never been rented as its been taken off the road due to the high mileage...

Liked the owner or manager good guy, but car was not cleaned and found stuff we should not have in the car. They just moved into new spot so understandable, but cleaning cars has got to be too 2 or 3 on the list of things to do every day
Frequent business traveler, 100 nights a year. I would rate this location as the absolute worst I have encountered. Avis should be ashamed at the way this branch runs. Advised car was right outside, wasnt even in same parking lot. Opened car, full bag of trail mix spilled open on passenger seat floor. The one or two people working here also have to run out to look at milage etc. Each time its a solid 10 minutes. Im here now returning. In 30 minutes they have successfully completed 2 transactions and Im still 3 people deep waiting to return. Believe me, use the airport, its worth any extra expense.
This Avis has horrible service, I waited 1.5 hours to receive my vehicle that I reserved a month prior. I received the wrong vehicle, and it was not cleaned.

This Avis Budget rental can location was great, the staffs were friendly and their cars were always low mileage. Only one cpmplain is that the car I got have no windshield fluid which is pretty dangerous for the snowy road.
The company is not the easiest to deal with. Tonight I went to pick up my reserved and paid for rental and was told they didnt have any cars. The staff was as according as can be, customers service was not. I am extremely upset over it, and I plan to reach out to the customer service line soon. Just as I was about to leave a nd cancel thankfully someone showed up and I wasnt walking home. Best rates too

I have only rented a car once or twice in my life, so I was a little wary. But the staff at this location were friendly and accommodating. The car was not the one I had hoped to rent, but was still very comfortable to drive. I dont think I could have gotten a better deal anywhere else. 100% recommendation for this place!

Mary and Mark were so helpful that they merit more than 5 stars. I returned a car in what I thought would be plenty of time to catch a cab to the train station for my trip home. But every cab company I called, and that Mary called, had no cars available. As it was starting to look desperate, Mark agreed to drive me to the train station. Completely amazing, completely outstanding customer service, completely unexpected. I am so grateful that I made it home - it truly would have been hours later without their help. Highly recommend renting from them - it was also a very nice car that drove well and they were very efficient with the rental process.
