Mel Carr has worked on both our old home and new. Over four decades. Completely grounded house when we purchased. added extra breaker box for addition and all new switches. Installed new ceiling light/fans. Replaced bathroom outlets w/ new GFIs. All new wiring & breakers for new washer/dryer install. All new wiring & breaker for freezer in garage. New gas/smoke detectors for house. Professional as always! booties, no tracking, swept up after, took old fixtures to dispose. Very courteous, respectful.

THey were incredibly responsive to my time contraints, worked great with the builder. each of the three teams I have had are all five star representatives of the comany they work for. This most recent team worked quickly and efficiently and coordinated the code review all in one day. I m sure Ill have a project for them in 2026.

Extremely expensive services

I scheduled an appointment with Mel Carr on Feb 27th. They provided a 12-4 time of arrival. I received a text message and a call from a technician saying they were on their way as of 11:40am. When the appointment was scheduled, I was informed that the technician would reach out 20-30mins prior to arrival. They called at 11:40am. I went right over to the property. I sat for over 40 minutes. I then called the office. I asked if the tech was still coming. The dispatch woman put me on hold. Came back shortly after stating the tech broke down, and they just found out. She then stated that another tech was being dispatched to my location. The call ended. I then received a call from the 2nd tech. He stated it would be another 55 minutes before his arrival. The tech Zack arrived in that time frame. He then proceeded to inspect the main service panel in the basement at the bottom of the basement stairs. He took a video and a pic of the panel. He moved the twisted ground wire coming out of the service panel. It was arcing when it was moved. He stated there are major issues. He then went outside to look at the meter can and wire from the weather head. He removed the electric meter from the meter box and then reinstalled it. He then stated that everything needed to be replaced from the weather head down, including the main service panel. He quoted me just over $5k for a 100amp service. He stated he would take care of everything, including permits. (He also stated, Do not call national grid until the work was completed.) This is a rental property, and I need to get this issue resolved quickly. So I scheduled the repair for the next day at 9 am. He left. I then spoke with my hvac tech about our conversation. We hung up, and about a hr later, my hvac tech called me after thinking about the conversation i had with the electrican and strongly suggested I get national grid over to the property asap. National grid came over and did an inspection of the main service panel and also checked the meter can and the connections at the weather head. They found it to be a loose neutral wire connection near the weather head. They also did an adjustment near the pole connection. They then rechecked everything in the meter can and in the main service panel. They stated everything was fine now and reinstalled the meter. They said I could call the tenants to come back and that they could stay in the house. So, after all said and done, it was an issue outside on national grids wiring. Mel Carr wanted me to pay them over $5k to replace all the components, and it still wouldnt have fixed the issue until national grid came to then verify national grids connections and Mel Carr did all the repairs. After national grid left from doing the repairs on their lines, i called and canceled my appointment with Mel Carr. I also sent them a text as well. The next morning , I called to confirm the appointment was canceled. I then asked the woman what was the amount of my bill? She stated we waved the service charge of $89. I then started to tell her what had happened the day before. She then connected me with Dave, the (Service Manager). He proceeds to tell me there are major problems in the service panel from looking at the picture Zach the tech provided. I said, If there were major issues in the service panel, why would National Grid put the meter back and tell me that the tenants can come back to the house? Dave said he would come out right now to show me all of the issues. I then asked him. If there are major issues in the main panel, why do I need to replace everything from the weather head down? He stated well according to Zack the main wire from the weather head to the meter can was in questionable condition. The wire is perfectly fine. I had the wire from the bottom of the meter can down to the main panel replaced 2 summers ago by an electrician. After that conversation about 2 hrs later, Dave left me a vm stating National Grid called him, stating he needs to contact the owner and to go fix issues in the main panel. National Grid does not call e

Gary gave me estimates for jobs needed. Explained everything clearly. He came quickly for both the estimate and work. Cleaned everything up. I love my new lights. Super happy with the installion and they look great. Will use Mel Carr again! I used Mel Carr again, they installed a 240 line for my garage to allow for an electric car charger. Again the price was reasonable and quick install. Gary did a great and professional job each time. I am sure he will do more for us in the future. I definitely recommend this company especially Gary. Mel Carr will perform free inspection and make recommendations to make sure your home is up to code on a yearly basis if you are a member. It is a great service and good to inform you about what should be done in your house. UPDATE 3/10/25 Around 11:30 pm today there was an electrical fire smell and Mel Carr was quick to respond but also foudn the cause very quickly. The staff are always great and know there stuff. Mel Carr is our go to electricians. We highly recommend them again!

I called on Mel Carr because I have had excellent service from them in a 1913 house I owned for 22 years. I am now in a new-to-me house, and I immediately called upon this firm. I was rewarded with rapid response, an energetic, engaged technician and a fair price. Is the course of conducting electrical system safety inspection, the technician identified three safety issues, one of which was - not to exaggerate - life-threatening. These observations alone justified the Mel Carr visit to our house. A job well done. Mel Carr conducted subsequent service calls in the same manner. This was Mel Carrs third visit to our new house and involved improving the lighting in the kitchen, installing a range circuit, and completing some miscellaneous corrections of some questionable wiring practices from the past. All the work done by Mel Carr was executed to my complete satisfaction. We are pleased with both the conduct of the electricians and the results. We needed another visit to check on an oven installation and to address a perplexing issue with a new refrigerator. The latter was traced to the new refrigerators incompatibility with a standard GFCI circuit. Justin resolved all the issues.

Ethan and Jojo were very professional and courteous. They expertly addressed the electrical issues in my house. I couldnt be happier with the results. And that they could take care of everything I was requesting on the same day as inspection, was a bonus. I also want to give credit to the company for training young people, and women in particular, to be electricians. Well done.

I had a whole house worth of electrical work to do including increasing my electrical panel voltage. Ethan came with his team and got the work done in only three days. Now my 1933 house has up to code 21st century electrical!

Carlos did an awesome job, patiently explaining our options and giving us a quote for each. He and his co-workers worked without breaks to upgrade our electric service snd panel in one long day, so we were not without power overnight. The next day they added ground and arc fault protection and new outlets and switches to two major ungrounded circuits in our 1953 house. They took care of all inspections and permits. They walk us through all of their work, answered our questions and quickly resolved the one (minor) issue we noticed. We will definitely use Mel Carr Electric for our future electrical upgrades!

I was having trouble with a baseboard heater and called Mel Carr Electric. They were able to send electrician Dave Diehl the next day. He diagnosed the problem and replaced a faulty thermostat. Justin did a great job on our whole house safety check. He spent about an hour testing the main panel, smoke detector system, and outlets. He identified some concerns and answered all our questions. He left estimates of what they would charge to do any or all of the repairs, which were reasonable and gave us flexibility on what to have them do and what we can do ourselves. There was no charge for the service call because we have a service plan with Mel-Carr.

I have been a customer of Mel Carr Electric for a number of years. They perform a yearly inspection that is thorough and professional. I have also had them re-wire a bathroom, install lights and replace switches and outlets. Always completed satisfied with the quality of the materials and workmanship.

These are the third and fourth jobs Dave and Len have done for me. As always, on time, quick, cheerful and competent, and now all of my electrical sockets are grounded and to code. Oh, and they also clean up after themselves!

Justin and Len were a wonderful team: kind, courteous, considerate and capable. And they did a superb job installing a heavy chandelier which also oosed several unique difficulties. These were solved by Justin, Len -and with a lift from Dave-without the slightest bit of stress being imposed on me, the client. I chose this company because of a Google review with photo and it is through this lens I see to do the same. Ethan, Electrician came with his Tech Brittney and gave two estimates. One with external wiring, one with internal wiring. I chose external because I didnt want the ceiling tiles cut even tho they would replace them. I would notice the cutting so it wasnt the right option for me. Usually they do the work as soon as estimate is accepted but due to the time involved we had to reschedule. The office person worked with them to get me in asap as it was a surprise for my husband. Carlos, Electrician came with his Tech, Kevin. They were punctual and had all material needed to complete my job. This wasnt as straight forward as it seemed in the photo i posted as our home is over 100 years old with 10 foot ceilings and the kitchen where my mothers stained glass lamp will be installed has a drop ceiling. Dave, Service Manager came to check the job and helped his workers with the install. He even moved my wall phone jack over for me. Installed a light switch with dimmer, replaced my basement swith with light to an newer model red light. They all worked together as a team and were respectful of eachother and my property. Carlos had me come out and inspect what he was doing, step by step, asking if I was happy. At one point we changed the install to a better esthetically pleasing look than what was planned. It was installed over our table where I wanted it but the furring strips dictated where it could be hung safely, I get that and agree. By trade I am a Secret Shopper but was not paid for this review. This install was for my personal dwelling. I highly recommend this establishment for its reliability, expertise and insight details. I couldnt be more pleased and thankful.

Justin and (please forgive me for forgetting your name his apprentice came and did a thorough examination of the situation regarding my wiring issues. They were helpful and polite. Justins review of the situation called for additional help by Dave Barach, who came immediately to examine Justins findings. He knew when to call for confirmation of his estimate and not give a false or inaccurate answer. Additionally Dave was very helpful in giving best and worst case scenarios

So far my experiences with Mel Carr and Zach has been very positive. The job is done and done in a timely manner. So far my house hasn t burned down which is a definite plus

Mel Carr Electric went out of their way for me and my family and provided A++ service all around. Dispatch, the manager and service manager were all very nice, understanding and professional. I had a very stressful experience with another contractor that was hired through my employer to install a new service panel and EV vehicle charger at my house. The contractor made some mistakes and my lights were left flickering throughout my house and I had 240 volts at my outlets that should have 120 volts. I was unable to reach the other contractor until the following day. I found and addressed the primary problem myself. A wire was pulled out of a wire nut and I lost the neutral to some of my circuits. They eventually came back to check their work but my gut told me there were other problems. Mel Carr was very busy on a friday afternoon and actually dispatched their service manager who is also a Master Licensed electrician. I witnessed him find several additional loose connections, provide an hands on inspection of the other contractors work to check for problems and ensure I didn t encounter any other issues. They arrived very quickly and the billing portion was very smooth. All communication was excellent. Text updates, email updates and invoicing was very fast. My worries and stress were instantly relieved and I was able to enter the weekend without worry of my family sleeping in a house with a poorly installed electrical panel from the other contractor. My brother has also had several excellent experienced with Mel Carr. Thanks again to Dave the electrician and the rest of staff at Mel Carr.

Dave - solid as a rock - really knows what has to be done to achieve the outcome the customer wants and is an electrician extraordinaire.. Phenomenal job from scheduling, confirmation, the work itself, and the follow-up. It was worth the price! They were able to come fix a melting and smoking outlet the day after I called. They also explained who I could contact to address the issue sooner if I was concerned of a fire. Throughout the whole process, the company was very communicative, responsive, honest, direct, respectful, and informative.
