Pep Boys in Albany

I called Pep Boys because I got a flat tire on the Thruway. I asked if I could drive over with the donut on my car and have the tire looked at/replaced if necessary. They were really nice on the phone, saying yes immediately. I dropped the car off, they took my contact info and called within 30 minutes to tell me the cost of the mounted new tire. Shortly after they called to tell me it was ready to be picked up. Meanwhile I was also receiving texts letting me know the status of my car every step of the way. They are a nice, professional bunch of people. I will always go to them first when I need car servicing or repair if it s something they can do.

I was very satisfied and pleased with the way the staff attended to my needs. They searched for all the savings to save me money and they did.

This place was a joke. I needed a tire plugged and showed up to a mostly empty lot, and employees standing around. Was told theyre booked until next week. For a plug in a tire.

At the time of writing this, these awesome people have worked on 3 of our cars and have been amazing each and every time. Oil changes, tires, and inspections. Was told by another shop I would need brake service soon, but when I took it here to get it done, they did a free inspection and told me everything was good until spring. Will definitely be returning.

We purchased two tires from this PEP BOYS location 11/30/24. A couple of weeks later one of the tires caught a flat. We called PEP BOYS only to find out that there was nothing they could do BECAUSE apparently we declined road hazard protection. What? Who spends close to 500 on something like tires and not want to have them insured somehow. The service manager Aaron Neal told us that we were basically screwed and that there was nothing he could do. After continuing to tell us how much he understood like he was sorry for our loss . Some guy by the name of Mike sold us the tires without ever asking or presenting us with the option of protection. Shoutout to Mike . Avoid this location if you can and spend the time to travel out further to more reputable places. Besides wait til you see the inside of the place not to mention the bathroom.

The Albany Pep Boys is my go to place for most auto repairs. It is conveniently located and relatively easy to get an appointment often on the same day. Their work is reliable and the service is courteous. I recommend it

went there for NY state inspection of Tesla model 3. Was in and out in about 30mins and $10 poorer.

I called last Saturday because my car wouldn t start. I had it towed over to the shop. It was evaluated, diagnosed and fixed within 3 hours with no appointment on a Saturday. I can t complain, they re good!

Turns out I needed a rim instead of just a tire. They were kind, showed me the rim, aired up my tire until I could get back in with a new rim and didn t charge me for the diagnostic. Respectful and Quick. Going back now that my rim is here. Highly recommend them

I ve always had a good experience with this pep boys. The service today was great. I dropped off my car in the morning, they called me with a straight forward estimate. I had them do the synthetic oil change, brake fluid change and fuel indicator cleaning. The price was much cheaper than the dealership and it looks like they rotated the tires for free.

This place is a rip off. Go to a local provider. First of all they overcharge and lie. They billed me to remove an ac to change an alternator. First of all, this wasnt needed all bolts were at the top and it didnt need to go on a lift to replace it so gone goes $300. My alternator costs $216 brand new. They charged $400. They knew my car didnt run because of the alternator and I would have done it myself if I had the tools. They knew I was from out of state and ripped me. Dont go here.

I went there last Saturday for new tires. And after I got them. The next day my car started shaking in the front. They torqued my tires for Me. And it still was doing it. So I went there this morning They said it was possibly my rotors. Now why didnt they notice that when they replaced my tires?

I made an 11am appointment. They got to my car at 2pm.

Dont go to Pep Boys on Central Avenue for brakes and rotors. Poor quality and workmanship. Went there June 2023, because it was a year later and only 6000 miles driven, they denied me a refund after filing a complaint. No one ever called me about it. I called customer service and they informed me. Thats what Im telling you. I did all the steps already. What I said is the outcome. If you really.want to help you would of already but instead your company just make your own conclusions

Came for an oil change and tire rotation. Everything was simple and done in a timely manner.

Justin literally saved our LIFE. I had put too much(an unreasonable amount) of oil in my car before hitting the road for Maine for my husbands birthday. We did not make it more than 30 minutes before the engine seized while driving and we struggled to accelerate and were left in need of a tow. Running down the clock on places open at this time we made it to pep boys and luckily they were able to take us. Justin was kind, understanding and a huge help in such a large way at such a stressful time. 10/10 service, it was quick, he gave helpful advice and even made us laugh at time when we were left struggling to see some hope. Cannot recommend this place and him and this staff enough, I will definitely only be coming here in the future. Would die for Justin TBH

The manager at the desk was very helpful and respectful. He didn t try and swindle me at all when I openly admitted that I had no idea about my car when it came to anything under the hood. Prices were fair, service didn t take long either.

I was able to take care of a faulty starter here on a Saturday morning with no hassle. They were very professional and quick with the repair.

I had a great experience at Pep Boys thanks to Justin! He helped me replace one of my brake lights, and while I heard it could take up to 30 minutes to an hour and a half, Justin had it done in about 10 minutes. The service was quick and excellent, and I couldn t be more satisfied. I highly recommend going to this location for any car needs Justin and the team really know what they re doing!

There seemed to be a slow leak on one of my new tires and they took it off, inspected it and found an issue with the stem. They fixed it quickly and then I was on my way. Thanks pep boys!

Will never go here again I made an appointment for an 8:30 am NYS inspection and said in the appointment that I was waiting with the car. I was told that it would take 2-3 hours to complete the service . The parking lot was littered with garbage. All around disgusting experience and a complete lack of customer service skills.

Took the car in to get the ac checked over since it was blowing hot air. Guy on the phone said $50 to check it (email we got said free) Guy at the counter disagreed. Well. They do the check. Put 5oz freon in and tell us they couldnt find a leak, but obviouslythe freon went somewhere (they said it was very low) And it would cost us 500 to refill the freon. also said something along the lines of hope it lasts the summer. Less than a week later we have freon leaking in our cabin (we had a weird smell coming from the vents) we have a friend who works on hvacs who has a meter to check for freon leaks and he said inside the car had really high levels, and also was able to find a leak right at a bolt under the hood. Thats probably going to be our last pep boys visit.

I have lived in the capital district for the last three years and anytime I need work done on my car I always come to this location. Their prices are very transparent and affordable and if any additional work needs to be done on my car they always call before hand. Im not sure if Eric works there anymore because I have not seen him the last two times Ive been at the shop but he has always been great. I really love this place and I have always had a positive experience!

Got some tire work done a little while ago, had 2 new tires put on, balance and rotate. I am today trying to do work that requires me to remove the tire. Was left dumbfounded and very angry when my socket was bending because the lug nuts were on too tight. Now I cant do the job without buying a new socket.

This service was absolutely terrible! My cars alignment is now worse than before, and the manager was incredibly rude and unhelpful. When I asked them to fix it, he said he couldnt deal with it and just offered a refund. They wasted my time. Unacceptable!

This review is far overdue!! I got a flat tire during the last snow storm, after an hour of driving 5mph to this location, I was upset thinking I messed up my rim. The service was impeccable, professional and they were beyond kind and helped me to get the tire changed, quickly so I could home before the roads got worse! Got here a little before 10:30 am for my 11 am 4 tire appointment on Saturday. Told 1 car before me, and then they will get it in soon. Over 3 hours later, Im still sitting here waiting. Ive never waited this long for 4 tires before. I wont ever go to this location again! I dont recommend this place to anyone who sets up an online appointment. Over 4 people came in after me and left. Fast service for them, forever service for me. Obviously, the tire tech was not experienced enough or whatever. I finally got to leave at 1:30pm and was told 3 people worked on my car. Update: had to go back the next Saturday bc they didnt put the tires on right and my wheel was now pulling to the right and shaking violently. Was there 1 1/2 hours to fix it. They said they would fix all the issues. They half fixed the tires and told me if my alignment is off to come back.....well the alignment is still off and Im NOT going back a third time. I do NOT recommend this place. I will either go to a different location or business to get my issues fixed. Should of gotten the tires and everything done right the first time! Definitely should of had it fixed the second time. Third time is just sad and aggervating. I have a baby that goes in the car and I cant risk her safety for people who dont do their job correctly and timely.

Ive been taking my Jeep here for over a year. They are professional, reliable and trustworthy. This is the only place I trust in the Capital Region.

Without an appointment, they took me for two new tires. I was in an out within an hour and a half and they gave me an incredible deal on two new tires. I highly recommend them.

When my car was done getting an oil change, I asked to make sure that they competed the free tire rotation that is advertised with every oil change. They said no, I didn t ask, and if I wanted to wait an hour I could. Insanity. I go to check my receipt and their mechanic logged the labor hours for the rotation. So it s in their system as completed, someone got paid for it, but it wasn t done because I didn t ask? For a free service they advertise as included? Major scam! Won t be coming back and I advise you never do, either!

Crew was very helpful, on Sunday I got busted tire and Pep Boys was the only store within 65 miles that was willing to help. Im very happy with the crew and service!!! Tire was changed in like 25min!!! Highly recommend Pep Boys

I own a 2015 Ford Fusion SE Hybrid. I went in for a headlight change. I had already purchased the bulb and after several attempts of changing it myself, I was unsuccessful due to the compactness/ tightness under the hood of my vehicle. I was in a rush because I was going home to DC. So I went into this Pep Boys and ended up paying around $120 (expensive I know) for the service. When I get my vehicle back, my hood bump stopper was broken and not in place. When I was servicing my own car that same day, that piece wasn t broken. Now I have to buy a replacement and install it myself (not crazy hard to do, but annoying). I appreciate that Pep Boyz were able to see me same day, but the service took forever and they didn t put things back or take care of my vehicle. They didn t even have the balls to tell me what they broke.

Simply Outstanding! In an age where customer service seems to mean less and less, Justin from Pep Boys at this location went above and beyond. My daughter was on her way home from college after 2.5 months away and randomly hit an object in the road that caused a flat tire. She was over 180 miles from home, stuck on the interstate and waiting for a tow and this Pep Boys location was closing in 40 minutes. I called them and spoke with Justin who was happy to wait for her tow to arrive and help. OH, and did I mention this was a Friday evening. Not only did he wait for the tow to get there on this Friday evening, he helped replace her tire and get her back on the road in less than 30 minutes. Simply amazing. Customer service at its finest. Thank you, THANK YOU Justin! from a very appreciative Mom & Dad. Again, simply outstanding!

Front desk staff was very professional and courteous. The quality of work was a disappointment. It took 4 hours to replace 4 tires and do a basic alignment. The tires were dirty looking and my steering wheel was off center after the alignment. Steering wheel was perfectly straight before they did the alignment, so I dont have a lot of faith the alignment was done properly. After spending over $1100 for tires I expected better quality of service. I guess that is a thing of the past these days!!!

I called them for information at 4pm they said sorry we can t finished you need to wait 2 more days. I understand you guys could be busy but don t promise if you can t do it. Currently waiting on a brake job after coming in for an inspection. Front desk staff have been very courteous and polite. Online appointment scheduling system is great - only issue is I ve been receiving conflicting information about when the car will be ready. Original appointment was at 12pm, I arrived around 11:45. At 12:45 I was told the front brakes needed to be done and it would be about an hour. At 2:15 (an hour and a half after that) I asked for a status update and was told it should be done in an hour. Been here for about 2.5 hours so far. My appointment tracking page says my car won t be ready until 7pm but staff said that s not accurate. However, it s also been stuck on technician assigned status for an hour now. I guess I m going to leave for now? ¯\_( )_/¯ (then the car will definitely be ready ASAP)

Excellent service... They set the expectations and then exceeded them. My vehicle was ready earlier than expected and the techs told me exactly what was happening every step of the way.

Update: I visited this place after two years after good experience in past. I bought one year alignment and after 3 months I revisited for alignment. I booked appointment online for 2 PM guy told me it could take more than 2 hours and when I asked for exact time he said he is not sure. I asked then what is the point for booking appointment reply was to get in line which is same for walk in as well then I saw reviews and every one is complaining about the timing and delays. They took my car in and i was watching from outside they did nothing because it was free alignment and after 2 hrs they gave it back to me. Nothing was done on the car.

Had a tire that was leaking air. It turned out to be a bent rim. I was happy that they found the issue quickly and gave me options to repair the issue. Also previously I had my car maintenance for oil and tune up. Very quick and courteous service both times.

Pep Boys was there when I needed them most. They did a great job on fixing my car issues. I will never go back to Mavis. They are a real joke. From here on out sticking with Pep Boys they guarantee their work and great service.

After they did alingment, i noticed that steering wheel was not straight while driving straight.

I needed to get my car inspection done the same day after getting my car registered. I couldnt find anywhere to get it done the same day except for the PEP BOYS. I booked online and drove there right away. After I got there, I gave them my keys and waited for the mechanic to get it done. The mechanic that inspected my car was super nice, he was very kind and placed the registration with the car inspection on my windshield and also placed for me the new plates which Ive left on the passenger seat. Just wanted to say how kind it was of him to do that. This will be the only place I will go from now on!

I ve been to pep boys before to get tires put on/oil changes and have had relatively good, honest service. Until recently, I went for an oil change and a snow tire swap. All was going well, until the worker came out and told me he could not do the oil change because whoever did the oil change last, did not replace the oil filter cap therefore it was seized to the vehicle. When I explained I got my previous oil change there, he dismissed me immediately, rolled his eyes, and told me I had to go to the dealer to get this fixed. When he came back, he told me he changed the oil with the dirty filter still in the car! Thankfully I wasn t charged for the new oil. That isn t even the worst part! When I brought my car to the dealership, I was surprised to find out my breaks were shot to the point the car was deemed unsafe to drive. You d think that at pep boys they would ve mentioned this instead of letting me drive off their property in an unsafe vehicle. Also, there wasn t just a cap missing on the oil filter, the entire housing compartment was ruined. I will never go to pep boys again.

Ive been here several times, fast service, friendly people. Twice for an inspection, once for tires. They never tried to up sell me on anything. Did what I asked and nothing more. When I was there in January for an inspection they actually advised me when I asked about tires for my wifes vehicle that I didnt need them yet and that they would easily last through the summer. Ill definitely be back, hard to find an honest no nonsense shop.
