Id give this place negative stars if I could. Had a vehicle repaired here 10 years ago twice 1000 miles between both after the second time I drove to Florida for work it died for a 3rd time there they fixed the same exact problem yet again. That held till I sold it 50,000 miles later. Out of desperation I stopped last week at both shops. Both shops looked deserted and like a dirty junk yard the one person I finally found has no idea where anyone was that knew anything. Oh yeah he was underneath a lifted car beating it with a sledge hammer. Beware of crooked auto shops owners.

In July 2022, the Buff-O-Matic crew replaced the transmission, torque converter and transmission oil cooler on my 97 Winnebago Class A Motorhome built on a Ford F53 Chassis with an E40D 4-Speed automatic transmission. They promptly completed the repair and were very understanding as they were awaiting the payment while I was tied up in a lengthy financial arrangement with my credit union. On August 26, 2022 I had obtained the financing required, paid off the bill, picked up the Motorhome & drove it home. The new transmission performed flawlessly with quick smooth upshifts and downshifts and all gear changes between park- reverse and drive. I was impressed with this shop, its personnel, facilities and the quality of its service! I can highly recommended this Buff-O-Matic transmission service!

BEWARE!! Told me it would be 2-4K dollars worth of work on my transmission. Took it for a second opinion and it was only $300 worth of work!!! thankful I didn t trust them!

I was having transmission problems due to a poor clutch replacement, so I brought my car to Shawn. From the start, he was very professional and had no issues with walking me through every step of the process of getting the repairs. He was able to answer every and any question accurately and quickly, so I decided to go with him for his services. When he tore down the transmission, he showed me in-person the problems that were evident, and this was very helpful with understanding the process. The only negative from this process was the time it took to receive parts, but everything was slow due to covid restrictions so it was understandable. One I got my car back, it felt like a whole new car. The prices were fair, and customer services were excellent. I wont be going anywhere else in the future for transmission work, and I can confidently recommend Shawn and his business for anyone with transmission repair necessities.

Best team, service and repair! These guys rescued me when I pulled in knowing something was wrong on my way to work. My issue was diagnosed quickly, I was given a ride home and car fully repaired within 24 hours. This is a honest, good local shop. I will definitely be back for future maintenance and repair needs.

Absolutely horrible experience overall pretty sad I have to leave at least one star got attitude the minute it was pulled in to shop grounds told us one thing and then brought to our attention that way more was needed.... After being told to only fix one thing.... Shop work per hours are wrong all over first sign plastered on the wall was for 90 an hour then another sign underneath that that had 98 an hour with 110 with electric work... Very piss poor customer service if you ask me

When travelling with our fifth wheel - we experienced problems with our transmission. Went to Buffomatic for service, and as our friends in the local area said to us must be because youre Canadian that the cost is so high. Over $7100.00 bill. The cost at home in Canada was $2900.00 If you are from Canada... I would reconsider using this service.

Shawn was great to work with. My transmission went on my 2015 Grand Cherokee with 87000 miles on it. Shawn and his team went above and beyond to get the needed parts and get me back on the road in no time. I really appreciated the thoroughness and explanation of what exactly failed and how they went about the rebuild. After my car suddenly died and another place telling me it would be weeks and more then I could afford, I ended up here. Everything was explained in a way I could understand and then I got the quote. initially it was more than I could even try to do and I explained I didnt know what I would do I couldnt go over x amount or it just had to sit. The owner was able to work with me and I was able to get my car back within a week! Right after picking it up I thought I smelled something and panicked and they stayed open late to give me a chance to come back and soothe my nerves. Hopefully I never need to see them again after my break in checkup, but Im glad they were there when I needed it.

Shawn was honest with everything that was needed in my 2010 bmw 528i xdrive and agreed to do it way cheaper then anywhere else and I felt very comfortable dealing with Shawn not having a lot of knowledge with transmission or mechanical issues I felt that Shawn helped me out and I would refer anyone that ever needs work on their car

Shawn and his crew built me a killer transmission for my 01 Ford F-250 7.3 Diesel. The builder did a great job doing all the necessary upgrades and improvements to the transmission. The head converter man build me a real nice converter that comes in real strong as the RPMs come up. Wrapping it all up was the outstanding install team that respected my vehicle and did awesome work getting the old unit out, and the new one in, while paying attention to all the details.

Last week the plow truck broke down before the snow. Shawn got me in right away, and had us back on the road in no time!

I recommend everyone who owns their own car new or old to take it there top notch take their time mechanics that wont let you drive away without making sure 100 percent your car is good to go and they are reasonable prices and they are compassionate during these covid 19 times I refuse to now take my car anywhere else MLK Francis

If i could give this place 0 stars i would... I highly recommend bringing your vehicle somewhere else (i recommend capital district transmission in green island).. they charged me a little over 4000 for a full rebuild and took them almost 3 weeks to get it done thats a little ridiculous. I havnt even put 1000 miles on the rebuilt transmission and it already slips worse than it did before

Stay far awayyyyy from this place!!!! It s started with a $650 diagnostics on the transmission and easily jumped to $4k for a rebuilt transmission. Once I showed resistance on paying $4k it easily dropped to $2k but would be considered a repair. I was completely lost in the process of price gouging techniques. Furthermore they attempted to charge me an additional $500+ to put transmission back so I can have it towed the hell away from this place. Soon after I mentioned DMV and BBB they decided to put transmission back and allow me to tow vehicle. This place will prey on you and take advantage of your situation. I would assume most people pay the price to avoid the hassle of towing their vehicle to another place and/or to avoid down time; And they know this. Dealership quoted me: $100 Diagnostic, $875 for certified remanufactured transmission, $825 to install. How in the world did this place think it was acceptable to attempt to charge me $4,000. price gouging techniques = THIEVES

I bought a heavy duty truck in Texas and found out after a 1600 mile drive home that the transmission was leaking. Sean was very responsive to my issues and got it in to diagnose the issue within a day of me calling. He diagnosed it pretty quickly and started the extensive nearly complete rebuild of the transmission and transfer case. He messaged me regularly with updates. Once the special order parts came in he had it back together in no time. He took the time to explain everything that was wrong and what he did to repair it. I picked it up today and the truck drives like a dream. I highly reccomend Buffomatic for any transmission issues because of his knowledge and no other transmission shops in my area would even touch this job. Kudos

Charged over $6,000 for my husbands trucks transmission. Gave a way lower estimate. Said he would work something out because he doesnt want bad blood, but to date - months later, have heard nothing!

Dont care for it

We brought in a Saturn for transmission work and Shawn was very professional and knowledgeable. He explained what the situation was and what he could and could not diagnose upfront. He was also very patient when we sprung our Uncle Johnny on him for a second opinion. Very fair and timely work. He clearly cares about each job and takes responsibility for his work.

My vehicle is just over 15 years old and I wasnt sure if it would require major repairs such as a transmission because I had purchased it second hand. My appointment at the Glenmont facility was convenient and my car was placed in a bay on a lift almost immediately. We asked to observe what they would be looking for so that we would be knowledgeable in reference to any issues that were discovered and they agreed to our request. Immediately the owner stated the transmission was one of his which I found rather peculiar but it turned out to be true which was a relief because if the transmission needed to be replaced we were not going to keep the vehicle although the interior and exterior are in very good condition. Buff-O-Matic II has completed numerous maintenance issues in a timely and professional manner on this particular vehicle and and an additional one to our complete satisfaction. Overall, we will continue to have work done at this facility and recommend it highly.

DO NOT I REPEAT DO NOT GO TO THIS BUSSINESS the owner Shawn is a coward I brought my car there because I though I had a transmission problem and I signed a paper stating that he was going to look at my car to diagnose it for free I went back the next day to get my car and he tried charging me for the diagnoses and at the time when I went to pick my car up he wasnt there so I told the guy Im not paying the bill and he called Shawn the owner saying I was refusing to pay and I went to his other shop down the road because that where he was and my car and he didnt come outside one of the mechanics handed me my keys and told me Im good I caught him with his pants down he tried to scam me and I wasnt having it

SCAMMERS! I took my 2004 Honda Pilot here to diagnose a chattering sound in my transmission. Sean told me it was probably a small problem and he would take a look and let me know. He called me to tell me I needed to rebuild my entire transmission at a cost of $3,800. I said its not worth it, dont do anything. He said it would cost $2,00 to put it all back together with no work done! SCAM! I needed the car so I paid for the entire rebuild. It is is 2 years later and I am having torque converter and transmission troubles all over again. DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR HERE!

I have several close family friends who have had nothing but GREAT experiences dealing with buffomatic, from transmission over hauls to hi performance torque converters and engine and drive line repairs. This is an honest shop with great technicians. These guys especially Shawn really know their stuff. Ive know Shawn and his business for many years and would never hesitate to bring any of my vehicles there for repair, whether it be for an oil change or a new transmission. So if your looking for a business that stands behind its work this is the place.

Sean was a very nice gentleman helped me out with a transmission problem of mine. Looked it over and disgnosed that I indeed had a problem with my transmission for no cost. Highly recommend these gentlemen at Buff-O-Matic know that theyre doing.

Was closest to me and didnt know at the time that my auto shop (carusos auto) did transmissions. Also this shop HAD a good review on google. Cost me $3950 for a rebuilt transmission, the car I have is barely worth that much, claimed he was cutting me a deal, but when I asked carusos how much it would cost they told me exactly $1500 less with a 3 year warranty versus a 1 year warranty from buffomatic II. What they do is tell you that they wont know how much it will cost until they take it apart ($650) then once they have your 650 they tell you everything needs to be replaced, could have been more upfront with at least a ballpark figure of what this would cost I do NOT recommend this shop.

STAY AWAY! 2001 Mercury Sable I brought in for a slipping transmission. They held my car for 3 weeks, constantly making excuses. Oh and did I mention he charged me an outrageous 3.5k when refurbished transmissions are only 1-1.5k?? And heres the kicker, the next time I took my car to a mechanic for service he asks did you get the transmission replaced recently? Take it back because IT IS STILL LEAKING!!!!! Sell your car before bringing it to this crook, I wish I did.

As a girl, Im definitely dread going to mechanics and whatnot because 1: I feel like I always get ripped off or 2: I end up with things I dont even need. But I will recommend this place EVERY TIME and below is my experience: My Service Engine Soon Signal came on and I took it over to Buffomatic to look at. Shawn was great to work with and was able to squeeze me in. Turns out, in order for the transmission to be diagnosed, it would have to be removed which can be a $750 charge just to do so. But Shawn did something that I doubt ANYONE would ever do. Shawn called a Nissan dealership for me and called to see if transmissions were under warranty. He called me to tell me that my transmission could still easily be under warranty because this apparently is a huge problem with my type of car. So can I just say, how IN DEBTED I am to Shawn? He was so honest and understanding and genuinely tried to help me and at the end of the day, all he expected of payment was that I recommended his company to anyone who I knew who may need his services. I am honestly floored by this because its not everyday that someone would spend time on my vehicle and not charge me anything ONLY to send me to another company. Therefore, I will most certainly recommend this place! Thank you so much for your kindness and honesty! It really makes me feel so much better about how much I dread car issues and going to a mechanic! OH, Crystal was also nice! :)

Wish I had listened to the dealer and stayed away from this crook. He is a liar and a cheat. On a Monday I brought my work van over to him with a grinding noise in the rear end. After the test drive he told me it needs rear differential bearings at a cost between $1000 and $1100, I then took it over to a Ford dealership and after the test drive they explained the same repairs at a cost of around $1500. I decided to save a few dollars and bring it to Buffomatic, considering it is all they basically work on there. Could not have made a worse decision. I told Sean Buffo ( the owner) I needed it fixed as quickly as possible, it was my only work vehicle. He agreed he would have it started the next morning. I call at the end of the next day to see how its going. I get an apology, they hadnt started working on it yet. I get a call a few days later (Thursday) with a message to call right away. They tell me that there is another part that was defective and I needed to get it replaced for another $600. I went down to get a look and they showed me a carrier that had been out of round. Seemed a bit odd so I asked them how much to put it back together and I would like a 2nd opinion, he says $1800 ! So I ask him how much time he has in it so far, he says 6 hours (just for taking it apart). I later asked a dealer how much labor to repair the bearings in their quote, they tell me the whole job is 5 hrs. He basically strong armed me into completing the repairs at his inflated price, I didnt have much of a choice and the thief knew it. He then calls me back later that day and asks me if I want to pay $100 extra for overnight shipping of the carrier, otherwise it could be 2 or 3 days wait. By now he has had the van for almost a week and he starts bitching at me because he has other potential victims waiting for my truck to be taken off the lift. At this point I am so frustrated I just wanted my truck out of there ! He orders the part next day delivery on Friday, I get a call on Saturday around 11am to come and pick up my truck. Sounds like they drove to another local shop or junk yard to get the carrier and scammed me out of the new part and overnight shipping costs. When I get to the shop, Sean is not around, but his girl is there to get my cash. I get the bill and its now $2700 ! Pay it now or leave the truck for him to wholesale to a used car dealer ! Guess he left a few overcharges and inflated costs out of the quote. If you deal with this unprofessional cheat be weary of what he says, and get everything in writing before he starts working on your vehicle. The only caveat, it is still running 30k miles later.

Terrible customer service. Rude little signs all over there shabby little establishment. dont rush us we dont rush you. I would have liked to personally said this to the guys face but it looks like the type of place that they will break something if you upset them. Dont except to get a call about an update about your car. You have to call them and they wont call back. And do not even think about asking for an estimate you will get a snarky sarcastic reply. I wish our other transmission shop was open, because the moment I pulled up to this place I should have known.

DECEMBER 11th, 2012 OK, so Ive had my honda back now for over a month....I swear it runs better now then I did when I bought it eight years ago. Shawn you were so right....Im so glad I kept the car and Im so glad I let you fix the transmission instead of putting in a new one.
