I received a good reference from a friend that Capital Transmission was one of the best,I called prior to having my vehicle delivered, they (Capital Trans) stated bring it in,and we will call you with in 2-3 days..Its been 5 days, I called on the 3rd day, they stated they would get back to me that evening..Nothing..the only reason Im giving them any stars is because of the recommendations by my friend..bad business people. Really all they had to say when I called was,Sorry were swamped were 2 to 3 weeks out,which is understandable..at that point I could of called another shop in the area...Towing can get expensive.!!
Honest and friendly..was able to get my car right in. Kept me up to date with what was going on with it. Would definitely recommend!
Had my clutch replaced they messed it all up. Put in wrong fluid (gear oil) instead of Honda specific clutch fluid. Jammed my input shaft into the throw out bearing where it wasn't sitting right and causing metal shavings which has since transferred into my transmission. Now my whole car is messed up. Worse place ever never going there again

I was referred to this business by a mechanic shop. Stopped by to ask about getting my transmission serviced. Honest pricing and got me in and out the same day.
I had a great experience working with these folks to get my transmission replaced. They answered all of my questions (without being patronizing) including letting me know that I had some time before I needed to get the repair done, they offered a range of pricing options for used transmissions, and they took care of the work promptly when I did bring my car in to get it done. I felt like they went above and beyond at each step. I hope I don’t have any more transmission problems so I’d rather not go back myself :) but I’d recommend them to anyone else needing work done!
I highly recommend this place! They are so knowledgeable, affordable, and honest about prices. They were very communicative and even explained to me exactly how the part that I needed worked. Jim is great and runs an amazing shop. Definitely go here if you need car or transmission repair!
Wow, I can't remember the last time I felt as good about a car repair as when I went here. Jimmy was easy to reach and work with, and I was able to schedule the repair for the next day and wait for it to be done. Jimmy actually drove to Honda to get my part after his parts supplier / delivery guy failed him. I was charged less than half of what the dealer was charging to replace a transmission oil pressure switch and it was done in about 50 minutes after I pulled in. Why does Honda say it will take a highly trained Honda technician 90 minutes to unscrew and change a sensor when it only took Capital Transmission about 30 minutes of repair time? Its great to find an honest repair shop these days.

Had a problem with my transfer case leaking fluid in my work truck needed it back on the road asap turned out a some what major repair was needed and was completed by the next day.

Thank goodness this place is here. I saved a ton AND got a quality new transmission for my Ford E-350. As good quality as the best, and yet less expensive. This place is a secret resource of the Capital District, but spread the word, its too good to stay a secret. Save this place in your phone, when you get transmission weird noises call here first! Also, yes, a new remanufactured transmission and torque converter is a lot of money, but if you do the math, its a LOT cheaper than a new truck, even in the long run.

Car was there for weeks, if they could have found a replacement transmission it would have cost me thousands. Turns out it was a clogged transmission filter. They didnt diagnose, just went straight to replace a very expensive trans. Heard good things about this place but that was almost a disaster for my wallet.

Not going to save a ton of money going here, but they know transmissions well, they will fix your broken foreign or domestic transmission and they have a really good warranty policy.

Jimmy was great to me, my car broke down on me and needed a overhaul on my transmission.It was really a lot of cash but he worked with me and thank God for this guy cause anywere else it would have been difficult and wanted to say that I recommend this guy and his crew to anyone that wants a-1 service from top to bottom and to say they awesome people and very good at the craft that they do...thank you Jimmy!

My Son is a student at RPI in Troy, NY. I am located in the Washington DC area. Also, I am a Parts Department Manager at a large car dealership and have been involved in Automotive Repairs for the last 35 years. My son s car is a 2013 Ford Escape with about 135,000 miles. Dealership in Troy Area diagnosed the car as having a bad transmission and wanted about $6300.00 to replace it. That price was about what the car is worth. I called Jim Smith owner of Capital District Transmissions after reading the excellent online reviews for his shop. He got me estimates for three ways to repair the car. A high mileage used trans, a low mileage used transmission and a factory rebuilt transmission. The prices ranged from $2400 to $3500 for the repair choices. The used transmission had a local warranty and the rebuilt transmission had a 2 year national warranty. Since my son is moving to Seattle after he graduates this spring I chose the rebuilt transmission. I sent him motor mounts and cooler lines from my parts department that he happily installed when doing the repairs. He even gave me a professional discount to seal the deal. A month later, my son said that the car is working very well. I would recommend this shop to everyone needing transmission repairs. Thanks Jim for a job well done!

Came in last week because I was hearing a weird vibration noise on my 2000 Dodge Neon. The mechanic showed it to me and it was my passenger side axle. I changed it myself and their diagnosis was right! Was so happy. Came by again because I was hearing a vibration again but only driving. It was the lower driver side motor mount. They fixed it and my noise went away! Excellent people to work with. Kind, friendly, very honest, and no lies. 10/10 for these guys!
Jim put in a rebuilt for me almost two years ago and its still runs like a top. Dont know your experience, but over the years Ive had several rebuilts from different places put in my klunkers and they usually last about 13 months (one month out on a 12 month warranty) and then die with a blown gasket or leaking seal or so forth. This is my second rebuilt from Jim. The first lasted almost three years before I gave the car to my daughter which was just over two years ago. The transmission is about the only thing I havent had to replace on it for her since then. Anyway, Jims a great guy and stands behind his work. Cant recommend him highly enough, and would give him a six star rating if possible.
