We have used Roland J. Down HVAC services for over a decade and have always been impressed with their exceptional services. Aside from initially installing a new furnace in 2014, we have used their company for routine annual maintenance. We recently contacted the company for basic maintenance , spoke with a very courteous and professional staff member, and were given a prompt appointment within (72) hrs with a (4) hr window of service. On the day of service, we received a call to provide us with the estimated time of arrival within the initial (4) hr window. The two technicians, Dern and Ari P. and a sales consultant Eric S. arrived promptly. They were personable, polite, knowledgeable, highly trained and professional in all respects. The service was completed and all systems were assessed for any future service or replacement needs. We have found the company to be readily available upon request, reliable, and a sincere pleasure to have on our service team.

Would not recommend for several reasons. I did try that and you wouldnt call me back. Terrible customer service and communication. 4.2.25 update. National grid had to come out to check for a gas leak as a result of the poor install job. Techs did not tighten connections resulting in a leak.

A very good experience for an on demand combi unit breakdown. Scheduler Darnell was good at scheduling and getting me fit in, and service tech Nicholas diagnosed and repaired the problem quickly, efficiently, and professionally. Total price was reasonable and a tough no heat and no water situation was fixed with no stress.

Adam V and Sherry came to complete a simple annual maintenance call, but it turned into more as the furnace shut down just before they arrived. Temperate was about 58 degree in the house. Despite the original nature of the call they diagnosed and repaired the problem for me and still completed the annual servicing. Thank you, great job.

Christian did a cleaning on our oil furnace. He phoned and told us he was on his way during the time they scheduled. Unfortunately he wasnt able to complete the cleaning due to a new nozzle clog, 2 days later I received a text that it was in and they came and replaced it yesterday. If I could give them a 0 star I would. I have literally never had such a poor experience and have never written a bad review for a company before. They put in a new system for us last year that we needed to finance. We are a large family so needed the 10 year loan for the lower payment in such a hard economy. They mislead us and signed us up for the 5 year loan. Told us they were going to fix it. They gave us the run around for an entire year with us trying to give them the benefit of the doubt since they told us they were working to correct it. Even coming to our house to discuss issues and fixing it. They weren t sure but it was suggested to not make a payment until the new loan went through. Well lesson unfortunately learned! The bank was going along with the change; went as far as Roland j Down just needed to approve the switch to a 10 year loan with absolutely no effect to them which they did not do. Well now Roland J Down is refusing to correct their mistake and we are left with a bank contract that is now in collections with a large back payment on top of the normal payment and poor credit. Also never got our national grid rebate that was promised which could help us with this whole mess. What a scam! They should be ashamed. For average people, Save yourself the hassle and stay very far away from Roland J Down. Very poor experience.

Very easy to make appointment and office called to confirm. Morning of appointment email received with name of technician. Technician called prior to arriving, on time. Fixed our plumbing issues with toilet. Worked well and fixed our toilet issue. Would recommend them.

Well, I called RJD on Saturday to have our oil burning furnace looked at because it is using more fuel oil than usual. I was scheduled for Monday afternoon. My wife left work to be there as I had an appointment that afternoon. No show. My wife called and we found out we didnt make the schedule. Irritating, but things happen. So we were told someone would come Monday evening. No show. Im done. I wont call them again and will call someone else. Thanks for flaking on us twice. Thats no way to run a business.

Have been with Roland J. Down for several decades and they have always given great service. A shout out today to Justin Braim and the whole team who installed a new boiler and boiler mate. Professional and thorough.

Update: 2/10/25still no response from Roland J Downs but I did just receive a call from a sales person trying to book me for $190 turn up service. Still waiting for my call guys! Would love to hear from anyone about the lack of service I received over the summer and the rude woman Our a/c stopped working. We set an appointment to have it fixed because they were recently here for the annual tune up. I called for an update on time of arrival and Carol in their local location disconnected the call. I called back and was put back to her and she hung up. I called back a third time and forwarded to the national call center where someone there tried to get an update for me on ETA. Technician no called and no showed the appointment. Unclear what s the point of paying for their priority program to be stuck waiting days for an appointment when they were just here to service the unit and said it was in perfect working order.

On February 11 2025 we woke to a cold house because our furnace had stopped working. I called Roland Down in the morning for service. 3 service techs arrived within a few hours. They diagnosed that a very expensive part had failed, and that other parts were showing signs of wear. They pointed out that the furnace was 17 years old (RJD was the original installer before we owned the house), several years beyond its average life expectancy, and very likely going to need additional repairs in the near future. I opted to purchase a new more energy efficient furnace. RJD returned the following day with a crew of 6 or 7 techs, who worked non stop from 8AM to 4PM, completing the install that same day. Everyone of these men was the nicest, most polite, and most skilled techs that you can imagine. Also, they left absolutely no mess. It was an awful job (our furnace is in attic, making it very inaccessible), which they did with absolutely no drama or complaining. Yes, replacing the furnace was a big expense, but I was not at all pressured into replacing it. Absolutely great service. Great people. I highly recommend them.

Edit to Original Comment: After speaking with a member of the Regional leadership team, I am happy to say that a fair and equitable solution was reached and that I will absolutely be changing my rating to 5 stars. RJD has been responsive to our needs and this was never about service, or their products. It was about the service plan we currently hold - and that is it. So, again, thank you for the resolution. You may have just saved a customer when we are ready to purchase a new HVAC system in the future.

This company is an absolute joke. Dont waste your time. Literally anyone else is worth the effort. What complete horseshit. Call for service at 6:02 when I got home from work. Schedule an appointment on the call back at 6:05. 7:03 appointment scheduled text. At 7:43 receive a text that a specifically named person arrived at my house (no one is here). I call at 8:25, they tell me that the gps and appointment system is off, but I definitely have an appointment ans its definitely with that guy, and he will call me when hes on his way. If something comes up theyll call me. 10:02 I call and sorry were closed, its after hours. JFC its 25 degrees outside. I has to send my 3mo child and fiancée to her parents house while I stay here with the dogs. I dont own an electric heater and I sat here waiting not wanting to miss the guy when he was allegedly going to show up. P.o.s. company.

Today was the first time I ever called Roland J down not being a previous customer. They were able to come out within just a couple of hours on a very cold day to my very cold house and find out the problem and fix it. I am totally thrilled with their company and will call them again. And recommend them.

We were looking for an estimate for water coming into our basement. It took two weeks for them to send us an email and the estimate only included what the cost would be. There was no break down of what the work was to entail. We were very disappointed with what we received and the lack of timeliness so asked for our money back. The manager I spoke with was rude and dismissive. I would recommend IBS Septic and Drain instead. They were great to deal with.

Update: Im still happy with their service and Ill continue to utilize their maintenance service on my furnace, A/C and hot water heater. I totally recommend that. Their technicians are as good or better than any. Generally 5 stars in my experience. However, their pricing for work outside of that is insane. It was my choice to accept their quote since I had already needed to pay their trip fee for coming out the first visit. I paid over $700 for about 5 feet of gas line with a shutoff valve for my new stove. I know Im an idiot but my stove delivery had already been postponed twice and why I did. So, all in over $800 total. Thats after my 15% discount for being on the maintenance program, too. The technician was good and the price isnt his fault, but Ill never ever use their plumbing service for repairs again due to the extremely excessive cost. Original: Ive got to say I havent really had a bad experience... Keep hiring people like this and I will keep paying the fee to have them come service my equipment!

Today, February 26, around 10:30 AM, I was driving on the Northway toward Saratoga when a Roland J. Down van sped past me and abruptly cut in front of me while I was right next to them. This reckless move forced me to brake hard and swerve onto the left shoulder, nearly causing a serious accident. I understand that drivers may be on a tight schedule, but endangering others on the road is unacceptable. A company that serves the public should prioritize safety, not put lives at risk. I hope Roland J. Down takes this matter seriously and ensures their drivers operate responsibly. Ps. I have the drivers license plate but will not disclose it on here for privacy purposes.

Excellent service. Furnace failed on a Saturday morning with temperature predicted in the single digits for that night. I contacted them and Joe B was here within 2 hours. He was professional, friendly and had it fixed within 1.5 hours. Would definitely recommend them for hvac service.

Spend over $2,000 for nothing, almost spent another $4,000 without fixing the actual problem. I can t stand these type of companies that over charge and don t even fix the problem.

Couldn t be happier with the service from Roland J Downs. A significant issue was discovered with our 21 year old furnace during a routine maintenance appointment. It was determined that a new furnace and AC were needed. The sales representative was extremely helpful and was able to coordinate install the very next day. Nick and Brian came out first thing in the morning, removed the old system and completed install quickly. They were very thorough and detail oriented and took the time to walk me through the operation of the new system.

If I could leave a 0 I would. Emergencies happen, I get that, but the communication was a 0. We called at 8pm at night on Saturday when our furnace went out and they said they could schedule us for Sunday between 12-4pm. 4:15 rolls around still no one and no communication. We called and they said oh we are running late, the technician will call you with an ETA. 5:30pm and still no phone call no nothing. So we called again and get the run around so I said to the customer service person we are going on 24 hours with no heat in the middle of winter, when it s 20 degrees out. We have had no communication from you or your company. We cannot continue to call out of work, we just wasted a whole day waiting for you to come and you won t. We would have called another company. I asked the customer service person why they had no line of communication or ETA on THEIR techs. He said he saw the tech would be there around 8pm. Sooooo long story short me and my husband wasted a whole day waiting on this company to come when they weren t ever going to come, there was absolutely no communication unless WE reached out. And they have no idea where their techs are and when they are coming. The only solution they could offer us was schedule for a definite appointment on Monday. I said to them well I had a definite appointment for today, and he said well we don t do weekend appointments, and that s when I said and I didn t ask for my furnace to break Saturday night at 8pm, so don t list on your website you do emergencies if you can t. Worst costumer service. The biggest problem is that this company is offering these services and listing their availability and we as the customer aren t getting any communication or the answer, yet they are acting like it s completely normal if our pipes freeze and their hands are tied. If they can t handle the job don t be in this business or at least be honest about it. Because let s be honest, if the tech came when they said - who knows if they even had the part?! So now another day wasted where no part was ordered and no tech came. Wasted my day off waiting when I could have gotten answers and help; instead of running the risk of pipes freezing and going on 2-3 days now with no heat. Absolutely unacceptable.

St. Anns Church - Excellent cleaning service. Will be back for more repairs. Had to cancel repairs as parts took too long to come in (scheduled to arrive in a week) and our boiler went totally down, was smoking. FW Webb had one of the items on the shelf that we needed (the part that was smoking) and parishioners put it on and started the boiler up. We ordered the other 2 parts and they came in the next day. Why would we have to wait at least a week?

Ethan, Brian and Rusty did a great job installing a new furnace and replacing and relocating a pipe that had burst. Everything was completed in one day. The guys were nice, and very professional.

We were told by the sales rep that the furnace we purchased in Feb. 2024 was eligible for 2 rebates--one of the selling points. We never got the rebates (one of which apparently was $700), despite repeated attempts to contact Roland J. Down about them. The sales rep started to submit one of the rebates in November and then ignored our phone calls, emails, and a text message. I tried to make a complaint against the sales rep with the company and that was ignored too.

I used to pay for their membership to have the yearly maintenance done which was nice and to be bumped up if I needed repairs on my AC or Heating. My AC unit went down on the hottest day and the best they could do was the next three days someone could come out. As a customer, I felt betrayed.

Our technician Richard diagnosed our sink drainage problem quickly and explained clearly what was wrong and why a new piece of piping was needed. He also gave a nice, easy tip for keeping the line free of clogs.

Thanks I do have to caution, however, that having a salesperson accompany the service technician and provide quotes for a new heating system and promote the advantage program late in the evening, on a single-digit night when the customer is feeling vulnerable and just wants their heat restored could be interpreted as coercive. Although I do not believe that was truly their intent.

Yesterday I made an online appointment for service today between 8AM-Noon. I received a confirmation email and text. It is now 1PM on the appointment date and no one has shown up and there was no call. Edit: I got a text at 1:51 saying they were on the way. I will update this review after Edit Edit: The tech was nice and explained much about the furnace. Diagnosed my issue and I have scheduled a repair. Ill give another star when they finish the work provided everything goes well

I want to commend RJ Down for the efficient , prompt service on one days notice in very cold weather. They Installed a new furnace and air conditioner to replace my 2 units that were aging out fast. The cost which included a 1 year free total maintenance contract and 24/7/365 days priority maintenance was fully reasonable. I have dealt with RJ Down for 48 years and have never been disapointed with the service or the products installed. I give them my highest recommendation.

If you ve recently purchased a system from them they are wonderful. I have an older system that was put in by RJD in 2010. 15 years and it s so terrible that they won t even repair the blower motor and insisted I finance a new heating system. Called someone else and got great service easy repair.

Maintenance memberships increase and what s included in annual service is more expensive and no longer includes a replacement thermocouple ($10 part) they charge you $50 for it now. BOOO .

ADDENDUM, JANUARY 2024: I put in a call to the office to follow up on continuing issues we were having with our 13-year-old direct-vent wall furnace. The response time was instantaneous; Will and Sean came the next morning, which was a Sunday (note that this is not our primary furnace for the house, so it wasnt a critical situation where we were totally without heat). After considering the options, I decided to purchase a replacement unit; Sean assisted me in selecting the most suitable model. Ashley (I believe) phoned from the office the following morning and asked if the next day would be suitable for the install -- again, you cant help but be impressed with the super-quick turnaround time. Called to have my garbage disposal replaced. My tech got here, diagnosed the problem, and gave me a very specific garbage disposal model to purchase. I went and purchased it. The tech came back two days later to install. I was immediately told I purchased the wrong one. He needed a wired connection or else you will pay hundreds of dollars for an electrician to come install this. He said he would wait if I wanted to go to Lowes and buy the correct one. The folks at Lowes laughed me out of the store because that model does not exist -- none of them are hard wired. I called and told him this when I was at the store. The tech said he would have to come back another time once I had the correct disposal as he had been waiting for 45 minutes. My wife called me 2 minutes later letting me know he was leaving. I spoke to him and I was concerned that he was leaving because now my sink and dishwasher are not hooked up. He called his boss and assured me he would be back today between 12-4. Never showed up. Called the store -- no record of an appointment at all. Now I have all of my family in town for the holiday and no working kitchen sink or dishwasher. Zero stars. DO NOT RECOMMEND. Merry Christmas. Update: spoke with customer service. Very nice folks. Things were left on a good note. +2

Today Joe from Roland Downs came right on time to service our 20 yr old furnace, and install a new smart thermostate. Joe was professional, and knew what he was doing. Allowed me to observe and ask thousands of questions which I did. I m sure he stayed much longer with me than required to answer all my questions and concerns. Joe is certainly the type of pro you want providing your service. Total class act, will request him in the future.

Michael Alvarado showed up in the van and got to work cleaning out my clogged main sewer drain. He was fast, courteous and knowledgeable. The cost of $595 to snake the drain seemed rather high but its done and over with now and hopefully doesnt need to be done for a long time

I had some questions related to radiant heat installed years ago by a different company. He helped me understand the issue and gave advice on how to remedy the situation. This was not related to what he was there for but he took the time to look into it and explain. Being a single woman and homeowner, I feel very comforted by all of the technicians who don t talk down to me and make me feel comfortable when they are in my home. My boiler was replaced today by Ravin and Brian. They were here with a team. This task took several hours, which was expected. When finished, they cleaned up and explained everything in detail. 2024 12 19 - Samarah Manning was my technician this morning for maintenance on my gas furnace and tankless hot water heater. She was great. She an excellent job servicing both, checked everything, flushed the hot water tank, changed the filter in the furnace, etc. She did a great job and communicated well, explaining everything she found well. I have been a RJD maintenance+ member for several years. My Gas Furnace went down this Sunday evening (NO HEAT) and after several calls into RJD and waiting over 45 minutes, I was told by the RJD representative that no one was available to dispatch for my emergency situation. Specifically, the representative said that the emergency techs were not responding to her calls and that she had escalated the situation but with no response from the local RJD offices. I just called Albany Mechanical Services and their emergency tech called me in less than 5 minutes. The Albany Mechanical Services tech will be at my home within the hour. RJD should be absolutely ashamed of itself and its completely unethical business practice of falsely advertising 24/7 emergency dispatch service - especially to those individuals who are on monthly subscription services such as myself. There is absolutely no benefit to being on RJDs monthly plans, and I will be canceling my plan on Monday morning.

Didn t know old furnace had danger signs of bad heating element and got replacement before dangerous CO issues. Quick to help with replacement filter question too.

Very satisfied with Brandon Seales for service performed today on non-functioning heater. He took the time to explain the processes being done to diagnose, remedy the issue, and what preventative maintenance should be done to prevent any future occurence. He took the extra time to make sure we understood what he was explaining and answered our questions honestly and professionally. I previously left a good review on the insulation of a new water heater in summer 2024. HOWEVER-- Im extremely DISPLEASED with the response over the 2024 holidays when I called with no heat. I was promised a visit in the mid-afternoon when the temperatures were plunging into the 50s in my house. The visit was made at 9:30 p.m!!. Moreover, Im on the so-called advantage plan and I saw no Advantage at all, no prompt service at all. When it was necessary for the prior call before mine to be extended, there was no call from called Service Experts to tell me of the substantial delay while my house was getting way cold plunging towards freezing temps. It was Amateur hour for the people answering the telephone and making work assignments for the tech people in the field.

Randy K was the technician that came out to our house today to fix a clogged drain that had been giving me trouble. He was knowledgeable and quick to get the job done and knew exactly where to go and made it easy for my family and I. Thanks again Randy!

Roland J Down has been our plumber in Hadley NY for several years. Mechanically, they clearly know how to install and repair plumbing and HVAC equipment. However, as business owner myself, I take careful note vendor customer service. Frankly, Roland J Downs probably extends the very best customer service I have ever seen in a service industry. As mentioned, I run a service company myself (Property Management) and Im taking notes on their approach and attentiveness to their customers, particularly on their scheduling and follow up communication. Great work team! UPDATE: December 27, 2024 - Another great success story. Our hot water system was not working while our family gathered for the holidays. Steve Bevan was the technician that identified the need for a new circulator. He had a unit on his truck and, tonight, everyone can take a hot shower. We are established service plan clients and delighted with Roland J Downs ongoing commitment to professional service.

This is the worst Company I have ever dealt with!! They make appointments to come to your home and never show up or call letting you know that they are not coming. I had a plumbing issue the needed immediate attention and being an Advantage Member I thought I would get great service, that was not the case. They were supposed to show up on 1-1-2025 between 12:00pm and 4:00pm. Never showed and never called to tell me. I scheduled an appointment for the next day between 4:00pm and 8:00pm. I called the office twice to confirm that they were coming and the office assured me that they were coming. Well the timeframe came and went and no one showed up at my house. I received no phone call until 10:15pm saying that the plumber was on his way. I said dont bother I already called another plumber. This is not the first time I was LIED to by this company. I have had many similar Instances with this company and I dont know why I still continue to give them my business. I guess being Advantage member means nothing and I wish I could go back and do it all over again and not choose Roland J. Down.

Avoid at all costs. Roland J. Down after being scheduled to come after National Grid to turn my gas back on for heat, first told me they were delayed, then told me that they were done for the day and had no one else to send knowling that gas was my source of heat and it was December. I asked for a supervisor to call me and they never did. Terrible inconsiderate service, do not hire.

What a ridiculous experience. We paid for years of maintenance plans and cleanings, which we got. Within a few days after our last pre heating season cleaning our furnace fan started making a horrible scraping noise. The tech had taken it apart to clean it. Roland j down sent a tech who told me the fan was failing and suggested an all new $30k system. The sales person was there the whole time. I was then told fan motor replacements are $1800. I priced the part myself- $150. So I asked the tech how long it would take. He said he was so good it only takes 45 mins. so where did $1800 come from?? Oh don t worry they charge the same no matter the part and labor cost. I asked my real estate agent for a recommendation and had his hvac guy out. $175 later he had properly reassembled the fan and adjusted the motor. No replacement. When I do need one, it s going to be more like $500. I am all done with Roland J Down. No one ever checked with me after I called to cancel my plan with them. They got caught and disappeared.

The quality in service and communication from this company has gone downhill since we purchased a $10K furnace in 2020. Beware.

Not only did RJD promptly repair the problem my family had with its boiler, but RJD also only charged about half of the amount that it had quoted in its original estimate. In this day and age, that is something that does not happen very often!

I was very pleased with the service I received from RJD. They were on time and actually listened to me and and was able to diagnose the problem I was having with my furnace. They were there until the problem was resolved. It was a 3 1/2 hr visit and Brad Robarge the HVAC technician was very personable and even explained in plain language the problem and how he was able to resolve it. I used another company prior to RJD and they literally did nothing but charge me an exorbitant diagnostic visit fee of $195.00 twice for two visits, mind you the tech fee for RJD was $99. So yeah was feeling quite ripped off. I would highly recommend Roland J Down and Brad Robarge.

Blessin Green came out for furnace maintenace, she was knowledgeable and professional and I would recommend her and the company. The only issue is with scheduling an appointment. Be aware that despite Roland J. Downs persistance on their website and pre-recorded messages while on hold when calling, that their online scheduling is not functional. If you do end up scheduling an appointment online, I would advise a follow up phone call to confirm. Once they get the online scheduling issue worked out, 5 stars.
