I had a problem with my transmission shifter, and the owner went out of his way to help me out at 3 o’clock on a Friday evening. I am traveling back to Oklahoma tomorrow morning and everything he did was a great help. What’s up 436 HIGHLY RECOMMEND JUST GREAT PEOPLE. THANK YOU
Great service with straight forward diagnostics, no nonsense, very fair. They have always taken good care of everyone’s cars in my family.
We have taken our vehicles there for the last few years. They are extremely busy but always manages to squeeze us in. They go above and beyond ! Excellent service and very affordable!!
Great service fast affordable prices. They offer just about all your cars mechanical needs.
The shop and techs were super neat and clean! Courteous and professional. Diagnosis wasn’t a transmission issue but would definitely feel confident in taking my vehicle to this shop.
Scott is the kind of guy who would drop everything to help a total stranger. I know, because I was that stranger. My family and I were stranded 50 miles from home with a loose brake caliper (thanks to poor work done at another shop). He diagnosed the problem and fixed it so we got home safely. He's a good person, the type of guy you want working on your car.
Worse place to go to, they rip you off and they lie blankly to your face. Made a mistake doing business with them, don’t want anyone else to make the same mistake. Would not recommend doing any kind of business with them. After 2 days Update: Confronted them about their horrible services and outcomes. Got very angry and loud with me, where as I was simply talking and asking if they could be honest with me.
July 2021.Just dropped off my truck. Too soon to really rate them. 9/3 Update on my truck and its transmission: It's working better then when I had the factory transmission in it! Thanks guys, you'll be my 1st recommendation for transmission work.
Great work.
#1 since 1959; full-service shop; best in greater Binghamton!
Very knowledgeable
Got no help, i was treated like I knew nothing because I was a woman now I get to look for a new shop that might actually help me
When? What? Who me? Where is this place located?
Good honest mechanics and quality service. Always get a fair price and quick turnaround.
Slow and rude
Absolutely horrible service, called to get a quote, was on hold for 40 minutes with no answer. Would not recommend them to anyone.
Very knowledgeable to what needs to be done. Left car Sunday night and was finished with repair by noon Monday. Will definitely use them again.
Considering the situation lol . They were awesome to desl with
Very knowledgeable professional and punctual. A great value. Highly recommended.
I have been researching them and checking with people about there work. I have been hearing that they are one of the best. I have a Camaro that needs transmission work and am considering sending it to them to do it.
I went there to have them check my transmission. I also had bad bearings in the right rear of my van. I thought they just did transmissions. They were able to fix the bearings for me right on the same day. Thanks to all!
They fixed the issue I was having with my transmission that the dealership couldnt fix. Would recommend these guys
Great place
Tried to get my Jeep in for a minimal job of changing an oil pan. The Tech said his business was too booked up to take on any work & mentioned he still advertises though.
Always good fair prices
Very helpful... Great people...
My car was running fine until it wasnt. I lost reverse but all other gears worked just fine. I am a very good backyard mechanic. I have rebuilt engines and do nearly all of my own repairs. While I understand transmissions and how they work, its the middle of winter and I didnt want to sit out in my gravel driveway to do my own work. I took my car to Croteaus to have them diagnose what was wrong with it. I figured that its worth the $50. They called me back in 1 hour and told me that I needed a new transmission. $2100 to swap it out with a very used one, (150Kmiles), $3K for a rebuild and $3500 to swap it out with a rebuilt one. When I asked what diagnostics were performed, I was told that they started the car and drove it around the block, they checked the transmission fluid level and hooked up a scan tool(My daughters know how to do this). I had already done these very basic and simple checks and told them that there were no codes and that reverse just stopped working when I brought it in for service. They didnt take anything apart and really had no idea why reverse had stopped working. When I asked the older gentleman about other possible causes, his statement was, I dont work on those types of transmissions so I really dont know. So you know, a bad valve or check ball within the valve body is easily seen by taking the Bottom cover off and would have caused the same symptoms. They didnt do that. Sure, rebuilding the transmission will fix the issue because you just replace everything. Stating that a rebuild is needed, when they dont even know because they didnt check it properly. Because it is currently only single digits outside and I dont have a garage, I decided to go a different route. I called Dons and picked up a good used transmission with 60K miles and a 6 month warranty for $525 with free delivery. I then called Damascus Services and asked them how much to swap out my transmission - $450. So, for $975 I was able to get my transmission replaced. Croteaus wanted more than twice that for the exact same service. Mind you, we arent talking about twice the cost of a $10 or $20 item. We are talking the difference between $1000 and $2000+. I have been working on my own cars from the age of 14. Im 53 now and am tired of places like this ripping people off. Stay away from them. Damascus Services, while a bit out of the way is the place to go. Croteaus thinks that because they are the only transmission place in town that you have to use them. Show them that they are wrong and force them to change the way they do business or dont give them any. In my opinion, they dont use common sense, they over charge and they are only in it for the $. They dont really diagnose anything. There are over 800 parts in your transmission and one of them breaking does not mean you need to rebuild the whole thing.
Top notch service. They do great work that is done on time. They warrantee their work and stand behind their work. Top notch service.
One of the worst experiences possible. Dropped off my car and they never called me to inform me what was going on. Had my car 2 and 1/2 weeks and only called when they wanted money. Would never recommend them to anyone
Absolutely great customer service. Couldnt be happier with professionalism and willingness to provide assisrance.
Scott is my go to Mechanic
Ive had a few cars worked on here and have always been very happy with the results. I Highly recommend this shop.
The people at Croteaus know their stuff. Friendly, professional and clean establishment. Very knowledgeable and helpful. I give them a very high rating.
