ZERO STARS I visited the Latham Valvoline store on 5 different days and spoke to 5 different staff - attempting to get a State inspection. Excuses started with no staff and ended with staff trying to get a ride to work. I find it hard to believe there is only one staff person able to do inspections. If that is the case, however, I think thats not the way a walk-in service business should be run... hinging upon one person - a person that is not dependable - a person that should be fired. Ive been told that the one-person inspector is a lie. If thats the case, then the Latham business should have their State Inspection Status removed. People spend a lot of time making the attempt (the same complaint has been listed in other reviews) - the business should at least have the courtesy to be honest about what services they are willing to provide. And you guessed it - attempt #6 was with Jiffylube... and my inspection is now done. Dont bother reaching out - I will not return to the Latham Valvoline - I wanted to warm others. *** In response to owners post - Unfortunately, I did call that number after my 4th visit - and was told: yes, inspections are done there on a first come, first serve basis. I made trip #5 ... and was told Sorry, thats a call center - theyre not even located in the area. SO, how is anyone supposed to know? A no inspections sign

He explained the issues and let me make my own decision w/o feeling pressured. Great experience. Highly recommend. Also. Show up 9 am Sunday 8/11 second car in line to end up waiting for over 30 minutes past when they said they open after eventually leaving . Employees standing out front, all waiting on this locations manager to show up for work. And from the employees that were suppose to be working, they tried to call him with no answer or pick up. Horrible management if this is allowed from the person who is suppose to be in charge of this location. And I am sure it goes up the chain of command. Will not be using this location again.

When I went to the latham shop a couple of weeks ago, I was put in a lane. Unfortunately a lot of time passed as I watched the other lane cycle through a few cars without any explanation as to why I was sitting there. I finally had to get out and ask someone what was going on. I was told there was an issue with the car in the bay. I asked the guy why i wasnt informed of the problem and he said they were short staffed. I felt rather dismissed by the employee. At that point both of us became rude to each other. I left and went to the Albany location on Central Avenue and was treated much more respectfully.

Ive been going to this particular store in Latham for many years with personal and company vehicles. This time I need an oil change and an inspection, I did my due diligence and called the office number which sent me to the call center I asked if they were doing inspections today because I know they normally pick and choose what day they do inspections. I was told by the call center they were doing inspections so I took some time off for work drove an hour south to get my car drove an hour north to Latham because they have done great work in the past and when I got there I was told they were not doing inspections today. Got some attitude gave some attitude back, I called the main office told them the story they told me someone did not call the call center and tell them they were not doing inspections that day. The main office apologized and called Troy who was doing inspections today so I drove over to Troy and they got me in. Its amazing with the technology we have that they cant communicate with each other. Would not eat here again, the technology is broken.

I I got here this morning 10-21-23 11:45 Am I bought brand new vipers from Walmart I saw the guy was playing with viper I believe he break it with his nail and ask me to get new one I feel he is racist the way he was talking and all the employees don t want work when I arrived they told me if we inspect your car and I sell the car inspection will be voided This is Latham location I think location need new manager to handle this location And dmv must have to take action

The workers were respectful however two cars that came after me left before me & mind you both of them had services done on their vehicles. I was getting an engine flush as well as an oil change, I was told it would take 25 min & it took over an hour to finish. I also find out that someone broke where my oil filter screws on to & they needed to go to autozone to get a new piece, but when they callled they didn t have it so they put the broken one back on while doing my service, I ve spent $125 for wasting my time for an hour and my vehicle now broken. Just pay the extra to go to the dealership .Definitely not a fast and happy experience, prepare for a day trip when going to Valvoline!!!! I will be calling the district manager and will update my review once I get a response back

On X-Mas eve, my husband and I had an incident with his truck while driving through latham, and the transmission fluid leaked out. I steered while my husband pushed, and a woman jumped out of her vehicle in a dress and immediately helped push as well! We got the truck to the edge of this Valvolines parking lot, got our flashlights out and began seeing what the issue was. Easy fix, that we can do ourselves. Two employees were finishing closing up shop for the night and came over to help us, Paulie (Pauly?) and Matty I think their names were. Their help and kindness got us enough transmission fluid to get down the road to the auto store and buy the rest of what we needed. It was all a simple thing that happened quickly, but three complete strangers stepped up without question and helped us. It was freezing out too, so really, thank you both and the woman who sprung into action to help push the truck. It speaks to the character of each of them. I hope you all have a good 2024!

I come here for oil changes and the staff is always friendly, offers quick service and hasnt badgered to upsell me on anything. I like coming here. 3/11/24 Again, the staff here is so great. The technicians working this early afternoon were quick and so incredibly informative, and helpful without being pushy about services or talking down to me bc I wasn t able to understand the issue my car had initially. The guys were so patient and great. Feels like a trusted local mechanic shop, and on the opposite spectrum of attitude and service that I tend to get from Mavis right next door. Thank you.

It was uncomfortable to sit and watch vehicles that had difficulties have preference over the just less expensive and economical vehicle such as mine. My vehicle didnt require anything but a simple oil change and inspection and a purchase of a replacement item. I understand customer service is important but to sit over 2 hours for a oil change and inspection was ridiculous..

I was surprised when they saiid I needed an appointment to get a nys inspection disappointing especially when I went to jiffy lube down the road and was in and out in a half an hour with an inspection sticker you lost a costumer

Assistant manager was there and told me everything he was doing and how it would benefit my car so I really felt like I was getting what I needed. I didn t catch his name but he really knows what he is doing and is great at making customers feel at ease knowing their car is in good hands!

Went in for NYS inspection, The employee took out my in cabin air filter which is not part of and inspection, The are just up selling, It was bad, So I said I will change it myself, He walked away saying You Wont do it as he was annoyed, he put it back in with all the dirt and leaves on it, couldent even shake it off into the trash can, I do my own brakes, wheel bearings, CV axles, and more this guy thinks hes a mechanic checking Air filters, If you dont like a customers answer of NO, ask first if they want their Cabin filter Checked. (UPDATE) their response from owner was just to look good, Email came back as something went wrong, They have no intention of doing anything, Just a false response to look good.

I usually go to the one in Troy but the wait was so long. So I ended up going to the one in Latham. The service was fast & I didn t have to wait. The lady was very nice & very professional. I told her that I needed a oil change but I couldn t get the one I always do. I have to do a regular oil change. She said that was fine but the oil can mess up my transmission. I understood. I proceeding to get the regular oil change but this one guy said to me you need to get the other oil & I said I already had discussion with the lady. The lady said she knows but she wants to get this oil. He still proceeds to keep going. I said I already talk to this lady about it. My mother has the same car as me & gets a regular oil change & never has a issue. My thing is if I had a conversation with the lady already. I don t need no one else telling me what to do with my car. I shouldn t have to keep explaining myself.

Came in for a needed oil change and decided to do an AC service. I also used a groupon that brought down the cost of the services tremendously. The team at this location are extremely professional and polite. I had an issue and they were able to accommodate me the following day. They were quick to answer the phone and help me resolve my issue. Shoutout to Lamar, Jeffery, and Mike. Definitely one of the best mechanic services I ve had in a while!

i brought my car in yesterday for an oil change . they attempted to do a inspection that i didn t ask for (no muffler) and then tried to charge me for it.. i was threatened with physical violence by the assist manager and the employee who did the oil change . police came.. made them give me my car after holding me and my car against my will for 2 hours . while on hold with customer service the agent on the phone got to hear them cursing at me. can t wait to get a follow up

Professional fast service

Ive been a Valvoline customer for years, but after this past experience I will not go back with any of our vehicles. Here is what occurred: My wife brought her car in for an oil change. In addition to the $119 charged for the 8.5 quarts indicated on the receipt, they charged an addition $30 for extra oil. Shortly after her visit we noticed white smoke coming out of the exhaust. When the car was cold, I checked the oil level and it was over halfway up the dipstick- very substantially, and incompetently, overfilled. I never would have imagined that a shop whose main business is oil changes could have been this far off the mark. This error could lead to a head gasket leak or other significant engine damage, which we still are not sure hasnt occurred. Since we noticed the smoke quickly we did not drive a lot of miles. I called the shop and they said bring it in,. but I was not comfortable driving it until the oil level was down. I siphoned what I could from the dipstick ( an agonizingly slow process), about a quart+, and it was still substantially above the full level, still about 1/4 of the way up the dipstick. I risked it and drove it in, about 6 miles. The manager removed the oil until it was at the proper level. He indicated that a new guy had worked on it and that was the reason for the overfill, although I noticed the managers name on the receipt as one of the people who worked on the car. The manager was well mannered and courteous. However, here are my beefs, in addition to the potentially severely damaging initial overfill: 1. There was no offer of a refund for the charge for the excess oil, which clearly was not needed. 2. I would have thought that they would have drained all of the oil out and replaced with new, since the reason for the overfill is that they did not remove all of the old oil (in fact, I would say they hardly removed any, judging by the amount I saw removed, which was easily 2-3 quarts, in addition to what I previously removed). So the new oil is now tainted with the old oil, and we will likely need to get another oil change anyway- its about black now, with hardly any miles driven since the initial change. 3. if this shop had any interest in return business, I would think, in addition to what I mentioned above, they would have offered a free or severely discounted service- it would have been a meaningful gesture that communicated an acknowledgement of their error and their value of us as customers. Alas, no, just a goodbye. Goodbye.

I asked specifically for an inspection, and after they did their job, I was wondering as to why I was being handed a new sticker with the mileage/date that you d get for an oil change. I was also charge for synthetic oil without being asked first (although I typically pay for the synthetic, they normally ask which one I prefer), which is also more expensive. Didn t receive a new inspection sticker, and sure enough when I got home and looked at my email for the receipt, they charged me for an oil change, NOT an inspection, which came out to $108. I called the store back immediately and told them the issue, and they said inspection are done by appointment only. I then told them that it s fair that it s appointment only, but it would have been nice that I was told this so I could have scheduled an appointment for this to be done. The guy on the phone gave me a slight attitude and asked so what, you want you money back or something? Of course I want my money back, I paid $108 for something I did NOT ask for or need. Wasn t due for an oil change for another 4k miles, which they saw on the records of my account from the last time it was done. Now I m having to wait over an hour for my car to be inspected. Will not be coming back here again! Update: I had to schedule an appointment for the inspection a week later, which was fine. It was scheduled for 10am, which didn t get done until about 10:40am. The inspection would have been $21, but the manager did not charge me for it due to their error the week prior when I initially arrived. Needless to say, I won t be going here again.

I have been using volvoline for years and always had a good experience, but today was a not one of those experiences. The assistant manager had rude attitude and didn t seem to care about my needs. I asked for an oil change and inspection he said we don t do no inspection which is fine but his tone was not professional then he told me to drive into the shop which I did, to which he started giving me attitude again and said that I shouldn t have done that and that I should have waited even though he told me to drive into the first spot . Then he hit my drivers side mirror on purpose and used foul language. After that I heard him complain that on Sunday evening right before we close everyone has come to get oil change as if he was complaining that he had customers. The other guy on duty didn t give me a sticker for oil change or helped me reset the oil change message. Both of these guys need to find new jobs or need to be trained again as it clearly seemed that they didn t want to be there.

I love that I can sit in my car and have everything done while watching. Valvoline usually has $10 to $20 coupons for oil changes or other services. Just google Valvoline coupons and they should pop up. I use one every time I go. On top of that Valvoline uses CarFax every time you get any services done to your car. So any services they do will be recorded for future use. Its helpful to know when you need to service your car and also if you sell your car. All services can be proven to the potential buyer. I definitely recommend Valvoline!

We tried to use them to be convenient. Today was the worse experience we have had yet! We sent a driver into get an oil change. I understand upselling is something needed to be done but when someone tells you NO and you still go forward with wipers and cabin air filter. They are out here taking advantage customers doing service without consent! Considering we have a fleet of vehicles and put enough miles on to need an oil change almost monthly. This is what happen when you choose speed over quality.

4 people working. Only one car in shop. I waited outside for an oil change for over 10 minutes watching 2 employees stand there talking and another one walking around doing nothing. The one guy who was working seem to have an attitude with everybody else and all the employees would look over at me and just look away as if I was a pest. When I backed up and drove away out of frustration they looked at me with absolutely no concern as to why I was leaving. Ive been going to this place for over 10 years but Ill change the oil myself before I come back.

Have been going to Valvoline in Latham for a long time. I do most of my own work, but Valvoline has always been great for inspections. Most recently I had to do an ac compressor swap. The Valvoline manager was most accommodating. He drained the refrigerant and depressurized the system so I could do the work safely and envirofriendly, and refilled and recharged the system once I had completed the work. He and the staff were all very friendly and made this most recent experience very enjoyable! Thank you!!

The Next Business To Fail. I visited this location prior to COVID, the Latham location was extremely busy. I tried to get my car in for oil change and inspection. I was greeted by a manager who was rude, and basically told me to go away. Fast forward to July 16th, there is no one lined up at the store and only one car in the bay. Being a prior loyal customer I pulled in for an inspection. I nice employee came out and was in the process of professionally explaining there was no person to conduct inspections. In the midst of our conversation, the same manager came out and told the employee to stop wasting time, looked at me and stated we cant do this, turned around and walked away. Corporate, if you are reading this, management at this store does not fit the role as a professional leader. Enough said, I have five cars all serviced at Valvoline, no more.

By appointment only for at least inspections not sure on oil change! Ive used this location for years and usually have a good experience and no appointment needed (so maybe a good COVID policy). I arrived first thing in the am after checking online about if an appointment was needed for an inspection and their COVID policys. It had nothing listed for appointments. So when I went first thing in the am I was the only one there. I asked for an inspection and was told by appointment only. So I asked how do I go about setting one up? So he said that they would be able to fit me in now they guessed. (I was the only person there for the whole time, I was not tryi ng to bump other peoples appointments). Then I asked about their COVID policy since we are not taking risks. Like masks or gloves? The first employee said what COVID policy? Then the other employee jumped in and said he would be wearing a mask and that they do have one. So I was able to get it done and be on my way inspected for another year!

Didnt bother to check washer fluids, tire pressure and other items although on the print out it states they did. Customer service could have been better. Their printer ran out of ink so they couldnt print out the little sticker with the mileage and due date of the next oil change. I will not be returning to this particular Valvoline.

Great service today at the Latham location.

Ive tried twice to get my car inspected and also an oil change. The first time I arrived, in late January, they claimed that the 2022 stickers had not arrived. Fast forward to the end of February, I arrived again to get my car inspected and oil changed only to be turned away yet again due to the fact that their credit card machine was down. I feel like the employees intentionally turn customers away so that they dont have to do work. Id be upset if I was the the owner of this particular store. So much lost revenue.

In and out and about 10-15 minutes for an oil change cant beat it never even had to get out my car

Fast, efficient and no frills

Went in for a oil change on Saturday 19 the guy that did my car was very friendly. I had the 2012 Hyundai Sonata. Service was great brought them a dozen of donuts the next day. Will go there again for oil change

I dont even want to give it one star. I was charged double what I was quoted and when I sent an email to corporate asking how this could happen, I wasnt even afforded the courtesy of a response. Definitely my first and last time going to Valvoline for anything.

Not where I would go again.

Went there multiple separate times throughout the past year looking to get an oil change or state inspection and was given excuses (by the same employee)each time that they couldnt do it. Basically said no and walked away with no explination after the employee walked up to my window and I asked for a service to be performed. Really gives the customer the picture they they dont want business.

They were very fast, efficient, and most of all, honest with what needed to be taken care of.
