Pep Boys in Round Lake Beach

Excellent service at this Pep Boys! I needed a rideshare vehicle inspection done and they made it easy as could be. I set the appointment up on my phone and they had me in and out and back on the road in about twenty minutes. Tony and Lindsay were both very helpful. I will definitely be back the next time I m due :)

They were able to take my car right a way, kept me informed about my car. Nice and courteous

I made a quick decision to stop off at Pep Boys in Round Lake because my breaks were making a sound. I usually go to another car service place in Mundelein but they close at 5pm. Pep Boys closes at 7pm, which is a big plus. My experience once there was awesome and both Jerry (mechanic) and Lindsay (the counter worker) were so nice and professional. Jerry took the time to explain everything and the fact that he also owns a Volkswagen Jetta was a big advantage for me. I would highly recommend this shop for your future car repairs.

Terrible experience, went in for a brake inspection and they told me it would be $3000 for all breaks! After I told them no and that I would come back the next day, I was told I could not pick up my car because it was not put together. I asked if someone could put it together and they said they had no mechanic. So, I asked for a manager because this did not seem right. I was told there was no manager on Sundays either! Absolutely worst experience I ve had. Would not recommend to anyone needing breaks replaced or repaired. Very unprofessional and way too expensive.

I brought my 2018 Honda Accord in for new tires and was able to book an appointment easily online the night before. The process was smooth, and I came in the next morning at 10:00. I only waited about an hour, which was great. The waiting room was clean and welcoming, and the staff were all very friendly. Overall, a quick and pleasant experience

I went there for wheel alignment of my car. While doing alignment, mechanic noted that the outer tie rods have developed some play and needs replacement. Instead of continuing with alignment, he notified me and asked to replace the tie rods before alignment. I am glad that he didnt do the alignment on faulty tie rods. I will go there again after replacing the parts.

I had an amazing experience! First, I called around various places and found that Pep Boys not only had the best price, but the best online tools, kept me updated through an app, text me updates on my vehicle. In addition to saving Money, I have now officially changed oil change companies. I strongly recommend Pep Boys over grease monkey, dealership, firestone, and Other local shops. My boyfriend even got better pricing on his brakes. That is how I learned about them to begin with. Check their website for coupons, they have a lot of them and very reasonable pricing. Good luck!

Ive gone to Pep Boys since I started driving at 15 and Im almost 40 elgin location and Palatine are awesome!!

I brought my car here back in April to have new tires installed and the tech scratched all 4 of my rims(my rims were not perfect beforehand just to be clear but the face of them had clear scratches/scuffs in a circular pattern from the tire machine). I had to keep pushing for them to make this right. Just because they werent perfect doesnt mean that you get to damage my property and leave it that way. The manager even had the audacity to tell me after I went and got a quote from an auto body shop that pep boys would not pay the amount to take out the scratches left by the tire machine, pretty much implying I wont be compensated for my damaged property since he offered no other solution. After almost 4 months me calling the shop repeatedly(no call backs after leaving messages), taking my car back to have them try to clean the scratches off, which clearly the scratches arent going anywhere but I indulged them to try since thats all I got from them at the time. 4 months of headaches, 4 months of fighting to get this resolved, my issue was finally sent to claims. Claims saw pictures of the damage and did agree to pay for the repair, so for that I am grateful that claims did make it right. But as for the Pep Boys shop in Round Lake goes, STAY AWAY if you want to keep your rims the same way you had them before they touch it!!!

Great service! They were short staffed and I had an appointment at 5pm. They told me that it might take longer than expected when I arrived. I was going to reschedule for another day but decided to go ahead since they thought it would be about an extra half hour or so. My oil change was done in 30 min. The manager did it himself. Kudos to him for stepping in when he had 2 techs call out sick. Thank you for getting me to my next appointment on time.

Went last year for a ac recharge Because they said mine was out charged me over 500 they said my car was newer witch why it was expensive and did not tell me it was leaking ac and now I m without ac again. Go anywhere else

Until I took my care here, I had no idea just how badly you could screw up an oil change. It took them 2 hours to change the oil and rotate the tires for which they charged us $99 (I found a $10 coupon online). My wife left with the car on her way to work. The geniuss here didnt put one of the heat guards back on all the way, so it started spitting sparks and rattling against the ground halfway there. The tire pressure light was also on. I met her, swapped cars and took it back. They were able to fix the problem, but when I asked for compensation for the garbage job they did and making my wife late to work, I was informed that the manager wasnt there but they could give me a free oil change. Lady, I just got an oil change, make this one free. Sorry, cant do that, you know these things happen all the time. What, you mean you screw up basic car maintenance like oil changes all the time? Yikes. On top of all that, my car is now leaking oil on my year old driveway. They refunded half of the charge for all our wasted time. Never again. Stay far, far away from this place if you value your vehicles integrity.

Do yourself a huge favor and do not go to Pep Boys for anything unless you want your car broken down I ended up getting my coolant flushed Saturday and yesterday I was stranded somewhere in Chicago with my car overheating. Keep in mind. My car was perfectly fine before then, and the only reason why I went and got a coolant flush was because Ford recommended it at 100,000 miles, I pulled over and opened the hood to find coolant leaking everywhere. Turns out these idiots didn t tighten the hose that goes into the engine. I called yesterday and of course apparently the manager was not there no more so I was instructed that I would have received a call today.. its now 2 PM so I decided to call them and I get a response that the manager decided to call off today please to anybody reading this review I plea you go somewhere else I work for the department of homeland security and I know a lot of people. I ll make sure I advise everybody to stay away from this place. I should have went with my gut feeling when I seen their horrible 3.5 rating on Google. Trust me people it s that low for a reason!!!!!

Friendly staff, prompt service. When I needed it.

Went in to get brake work done. Was initially quoted a rather extreme price. Needed rear pads, rotors and a caliper. They found some other issues but weren t pushy or trying to make them seem like they needed to be addressed immediately. Called around and got better quotes but went through with the repair at pep boys out of convenience. Ended up working out a lower price with Lindsay. She was very friendly and accommodating. Picked up the car and was assisted by Sam, who also provided excellent customer service. They had a credit card on promo. No interest for a year and I should be receiving $100 visa gift card rebate in the mail over the next couple weeks. Now I can cover gas and pay this off over time vs taking the hit directly out of my bank account. Will definitely return for routine maintenance moving forward.

I am in complete awe and shock, worst experience in my life! I placed my order online and made an appointment which i might add was confirmed. Hours later as i am heading into my appointment i get a call telling me the guys decided to leave for the day so they had no one there to install my tires!!!! The guy thats calls continues to confirm with me that they knew I had an appointment and they still Decided to leave!! Are you flippin kidding me! NEVER AGAIN! 5PM on a Tuesday and they decided ah screw the customer and left!!

Went here asking for a simple battery replacement for my vehicle. Rather than listening to my request, they said that my car is probably in limp mode and I need to take it to a dealership. Sure enough, all I needed was a battery replacement. Save your time/energy and go somewhere else!

The assistant manager was extremely nice. And very helpful unlike most places that just want your money don t care about your car. And trying to get you to put parts on your car you don t need. So to these guys I give thumbs up

I needed new tires for my 2018 Highlander. Pep Boys had them in stock. I made an appointment on line. When I went to check in, I was greeted by a very nice, professional young man named Omari. He pulled up my info and told me my car would be ready a little after 1. I went home. A little after 1 Omari called and said my car was ready. I went and picked up my car. Everything went smooth and easy.

I was told I had to replace my entire radiator because of a bad coolant leak, even though we never saw so much as a drop when looking ourselves/garage floor. Turns out I had bad solenoids, thats why the check engine light came on in the first place! Now I have to fix that plus the $1K (unnecessary) spent to do the radiator. Its safe to say I wont be doing business here again.

On the way home one night I heard the dreaded clicking noise as something was in the tire, as I scrambled to find a tire place open, Pep Boys was open till 8pm! Pulled into the parking lot and sure enough there was a screw in the tire. I walked in, even though the store is under renovation and says appointments only, I explained to the employee my situation. He immediately said he could look at the tire for me and took care of it. Fantastic service and quick. Thanks PepBoys, you got me back on the road.

This location was able to correctly align my 2008 Buick Lacrosse CXL after the Waukegan store not only failed to do so, but sabotaged my vehicle when I came back to complain about the first failed alignment. I had purchased a one year guarantee alignment at Waukegan on Friday June 16, 2023. It took four hours to get to me and by the time I got my car back and realized that they hasnt aligned it properly, the store was closed. I went back on Saturday morning around noon and they told me they suggested camber bolts so they could have additional wiggle room to set the alignment where I wanted it. (As close to -1 as possible, which is where GM said to put the car! One of my wheels, according to Waukegan Pep Boys was clost to -2 and the rest werent where they should be, and the toe measurements on their rack were obviously wrong too.) They also insisted that there was no toe problem even though my steering wheel was sitting to the left to go forward. When they put in the camber bolts and charged me for them and then showed me their machine saying that the negative camber went off another half a degree in the wrong direction, Waukegan Pep Boys said Id pay for them putting in the camber bolts anyway, and then when I got angry about being charged another $280 so they could screw my car up worse, their bay tech thought it would be funny to give me a MAJOR toe problem so Id have to drive with an even more crooked wheel. Meanwhile, the service writer at Waukegan walked me out of the store, like it was some kind of perp walk for a criminal, and bolted the door. I had to pay the ransom to get my vehicle back. I was furious, but I went to the Round Lake store, holding my steering wheel to the left all the way, and actually found that the people at the Round Lake store know how to do alignments and got my alignment values where they should be and the car drives straight again. This shows that Pep Boys service quality ranges from horrendous (a worse alignment than the random values I got when I put new quick struts on the car) at Waukegans store, to great at the Round Lake one. I dont know if Ill ever do any business with Pep Boys again unless they take some sort of punitive or at least corrective action against Mike and his bay tech that sabotaged my car at Waukegan, but if I return to a Pep Boys itll be the Round Lake store assuming the staff is the same. I never would have gone into Pep Boys Waukegan in the first place except right after I got my Monroe Quick Struts at Car-X Waukegan, their alignment machine crashed. So I drove around for a few days to let the springs settle like the directions said and assumed that Pep Boys Waukegan could handle an alignment. Guess not. The people at the Waukegan store need better training. The service writer, Mike, (before perp walking me out of his store) suggested cutting into the knuckle where the struts attach to the car. Since the Round Lake store didnt have to, I wonder if the cam bolts were ever necessary. My usual mechanic at Car-X said stop them and get your car back, regarding the Waukegan store incident, and Im glad I listened.

I made an appointment for an oil changed days before the appointment. Less than 30 minutes before the scheduled time, they called to say they were running behind and werent able to change it despite having an appointment. They offered a discount if I rescheduled, but I didnt want to take the risk again that they would over book and cancel. I would have preferred they call in more advance as I was already waiting in the parking lot. Oh well

Made an appointment Friday for an alignment to be done Sunday, after getting there Sunday found out it was closed. So early Monday morning I made an apt later that afternoon, once I arrived I I was told it would be a a few hours no problem due to the amount of people I saw in the lobby and cars on the lifts. 2 hours go by lobby is empty bays are empty and everyone was walking around and laughing. After we asked how much longer it would be the cashier said let me check, not even 5 min later all you see is every technician poking their heads around the window laughing. This continued on for about 15 mins before the cashier came back and said there is only one technician available. So I left, this pep boys has no business working on peoples vehicles or and common courtesy to the costumer. As this point I feel like I should charge pep boys for waisting my time where I could have been at work getting paid. Now I have to find somewhere else and loose more money. Thanks pep boys!!

I have a 2006 Honda Element that I plan on driving well past 300K miles. At 163K miles the battery warning light came on. I was pretty sure it was either the battery or the alternator, but when I brought into the shop the team at Pep Boys quickly diagnosed that it was actually both. They quoted me a fair price for all parts and labor, and I had my vehicle back the very next day. Everything has been running great since I got my Element back, and Im back to getting to 300K+ miles.

Definitely not the place but the manager gotta be either incompetent or just straight up rude with no customer service skills. Went to get tires replaced after getting the tires work package on eBay with CarAdvise and manager basically told me I will have to pay him when I already told him I have paid already with CarAdvise. Prior to the vista going back today, he told me he needed to get approval make sure that CarAdvise will pay him so asked me to come back on a different appointment. And all that happened when I went back. Went next door to Just Tires everything went as smooth and did not need to go back. I love Pep Boys but this location because of one person managing it may be a problem. The guy has no smile or any kind of customer service in him whatsoever.

Pep Boys went far above and beyond all reasonable expectations to do the alignment on my car. Everything was brand new but the car is fully custom which caused issues with accessibility. The alignment is now excellent and the car goes down the road straight and the steering wheel is centered. Thank you very much to the Pep Boys crew for getting my toy going forward correctly.

Check engine light was not on when I went in for service and when I picked up the car, check engine light was on. Called back immediately with my concern and the person on the phone literally said to me, What would you like us to do about it? Was not concerned whatsoever. Will never return after that treatment.

Do not go to the Pep Boys in Round Lake Beach!! Made appointment online for 12:30 for simple repair/oil change that should take 40 minutes max. Was told they were running behind and only had one tech so my car would be ready at 3. Came back at 3 and they still hadn t touched my car. Finally got it in the shop at 4 and tried to sell me and everyone else waiting new tires. What a coincidence that all of us needed new tires! Tech was soooooo slow and kept coming in and out dawdling. Finally at 5 went to find out how much longer and was told they finished but were waiting for my keys from the tech. Finally figured out keys were in the car so I asked to pay, went into the garage, and drove my car out myself. While waiting the front desk person kept muttering and complaining about how they weren t even supposed to be working that day. Why would you be so understaffed on a Saturday? Never ever again.

Drop car off Saturday, was told to make sure it was there before Monday due to Black Friday sale. They overcharged on the tires, Black Friday sale was 87 per tire with buy 2 get 2 free. Was charge double the amount for the tires. No issue with car going into service. Picking it up was issues with car. Had to also continue to call for updates, was told after car being there for several days that it wouldn t be done. Only came in for tires.

I went on line and purchased a set of 4 tires and made an on line appointment for the same day installation. I arrived at this location and was told that they are fully booked and that they cannot get me in. The person I was talking to said that he s been calling people that has an appointment that day to reschedule appointments. He said he can get me in on Monday at 4:30pm. Monday came and I arrived at this location. There was a long line and I waited for my turn. Finally it s my turn and the person that I spoke to said that he could not get me in even with an appointment. He said whoever made the appointment should not have scheduled it that late. Frustrated and not looking to keep complaining with long line behind me, I decided to cancel my entire purchase and appointment. This was a bad experience especially since I left work early Monday just to be on time for my appointment.

Horrible place to come and get a price quote on tires!!!! Be better off going to Firestone or Discount Tire!!!! DO MOT STEP FOOT IN THIS RIDICULOUS PLACE....PERIOD!!!!!!!!!!

Service was good and the pricing is better than most. Its shame you have to pay diagnostic fee when AutoZone next door gives free diagnostic test with the same results as pepboys

Took 5 hours for an oil change. They didnt rotate my tires and didnt install new wiper blades. They didnt complete the work. Overall very disappointed will not be going back and will not recommend!

Hayley was amazing. From her customer service skills to making sure I understood every detail that was done to my vehicle. Very humble girl! 5 stars for her and 5 stars for the techs that worked on my vehicle.

I ended up choosing to not get my service done with Pep Boys. I called and was quoted an amount for brakes (pads and rotors) for my vehicle. When I arrived at the location I was greeted in a less than friendly and very unwelcoming fashion and felt as I was an inconvenience/burden to the workers. When they began getting paperwork and telling me an approximate price, it was about 400% higher than when I what I was told on the phone. Of course when I asked to speak to who quoted me that on the phone, the person said they never said what I was told. I always ask detailed questions when price shopping so I can make an appropriate choice before heading out. I said okay and left. This is 2024 and there are plenty of places to get work done on our vehicles for cheaper, the same price and more expensive but with a much friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Honesty the workers that I crossed paths with, all appeared pretty miserable but that doesnt mean they should take it out on their customers Midas won my business over Pep Boys.

I recently had new tires and an oil change at the Round Lake Beach outlet and it was all good. Even though the temperture outside was -11, it was warm and friendly inside. Everything was prompt and as I would hope and the staff was great.

Hayley assisted me in my repair. I ran into car trouble due to the cold weather. My starter was broken and was unable to get it to Pepboys. Hayley provided instructions to tow the car to the shop (after hours) and have the keys dropped in the overnight box. She then provided me a quote for the repair. The next morning, work began on the car, and they finished up the following day, as scheduled. My car starts like a dream, even in the -15 degree weather we are currently experiencing. The best part is they stuck to their original price! I could not be more happy and will continue to use their service team. Honest, Reliable, Fair prices.

Great work and reasonable prices

Pep Boys in Round Lake were very helpful! They fixed my car within the time quoted. I had a problem and just drove in to find out when I should take the car in and they took the car late in the afternoon and got me back on the road in about 2.hrs. Highly recommend!

They were super quick on the install of my new battery and alternator. I was really impressed. It was done by opening the next day. Most places take days lately and I recommend Pep Boys. Haley was also very approachable and didnt give me the run around like many other places I tried. Good stuff!

Quick service and done in time. The only bad part was that one of our hubcaps flew off on the way home and was not able to be found.

I m so pleased with the services I ve received from Pep Boys in Round Lake. They did my tires last year and were fast and fair. Recently I brought in a problem with my temperature control knobs that I couldn t fix myself but it took them just 5 min to fix it. NO CHARGE! Who does that nowadays?? It s so hard to find honest businesses like this! I ll be dumping my dealer and won t touch the quick oil change places anymore either.

0 stars. Horrible service. Youll get stuck waiting in the lobby to get help for 5 to 10 minutes. I was clear, explaining I needed to pass emissions and needed a headlight fixed. Three times they handed me the keys and said it was fixed and everytime the check engine light was on and the headlight was out. Which makes me wonder if they even fixed anything at all. This was a 6 day ordeal. Wasting time, wasting peoples money with their unprofessional service and attitudes. NEVER GO HERE! Your car will get fixed quicker, cheaper, and better if you set it on fire than going here.

The technician Samuel did a great job on my 2020 RAM Rebel. When he rotated the tires he inflated the air pressure to the right specifications. I will definitely come back and recommend for service.

Front desk lady customer service is horrible. Extremely rude.. was there to replace champion battery under warranty. Was greeted by lady with a yelling from 10 feet away where is your car? Instead of welcome to pepboys. How can I help you. They never installed battery in car btw. I only purchased it and installed it myself. Then front desk lady continues on with rudeness as I challenge her with the lousy battery test she performed and stated. Oh I will get a Man so he can do a better job. Not recommended. The manager was at least nice and offered battery replacement.

Job done. Company needs some more mechanics as a lot of people were waiting. But again Job done and price was fair.

The work done is ok but costomer service is terrible. Better off with a local MA and PA shop far better communication

I went for an oil change and a free tire rotation today, I booked an appointment two days ago. They tell me they need to keep the car for the day, I was surprised, but fine, it is what it is. I get my car back around 3pm, I drive home, then notice they didnt rotate the tires (my back right tire has an impact in it, so its easy to recognize). I bring the car back at 5pm (still today), 20 minutes later my car is ready that was fast, thank you very much I say, naively. I decide to drive home thinking they wouldnt dare giving me the car back without rotating the tires this time. Well you probably guessed it, the tires were not rotated again, the back right tire with the impact hasnt moved. This shop is a joke, at this point Im just hoping the oil was actually changed, Im not even sure. Do yourself a favor and get your car serviced somewhere else.

Im a single mom and the price was really high for breaks but the manager called his GM and they got the price down to $828 from $1100. Im really grateful for that.

The price I was charged was 40% more than what I was quoted and the service took three times longer than I was quoted.

I attempted to get 4 tires and an alignment. The work took over 8 hours to complete, and no one explained this before hand. ALL of my lug nuts were loose upon pickup. I was driving down the road after picking my vehicle up and I lost lug nuts. My wheel almost fell off. When I called to complain, the employee could have cared less. Well, I guess you could bring it in. Bad service. The service manager was unprofessional. He referred to his employees positive COVID tests as pregnancy tests that were positive. A month later after providing their customer service people with all the details, nothing has been done. I cannot say how unprofessional this is.

Stopped in to get some tools and some parts but the store is gone they just working on cars. Wanted to ask the employee a few questions but I must have been a ghost I felt like I was ignored. Im sorry I gave one star I cant give a negative star I definitely wont be back even if I have to have my car work done I will pay extra to go somewhere else

The Service Manager, Tony, was incredibly helpful! I found an unrepairable puncture in one of my SUV tires. I called multiple shops but Pep Boys was the only one who had the tires in stock and able to mount them the same day. On top of all that, they had the lowest price of any shop I called. Great experience!

Bought new tires . In and out no problem

Horrible, absolutely horrible experience. Made an appointment and dropped off my vehicle for an alignment. Was never called to say it was done. Picked it up paid my $200. Driving home the vehicle was pulling to the right. Made an appointment for 8:00 a.m. the next Saturday to fix the alignment. I arrived at 8:00 a.m., handed my keys to the service advisor, informed him of my appointment and that I had to wait for the vehicle because I didnt have a ride that day. He said theyd bring it right in. About an hour and a half later I go outside for a walk and lo and behold my vehicle is still outside. They finally brought my vehicle in about 9:30 a.m. at noon the tech comes out, and tries to blame it on a bad ball joint. Mind you, I had all the ball joints replaced the weekend prior, thats the reason for the alignment. I asked the tech why nobody told me that last weekend, he had no answer. He said he just couldnt keep it in alignment. Then he asks me, does your car have one of those air suspensions? Really?? Your company had my car for 12 hours on one Saturday and now 4 hours today, and youre now telling me you cant tell the difference between a factory installed air suspension and a conventional suspension? I completely lost confidence in the technician and Pep Boys at that point in time. Asked the service advisor to take my car down and Id like to leave, he gave me attitude about a refund I reminded him that they hadnt provided any actual service, he finally refunded my money and I left. I will never, and strongly suggest that you dont, ever bring a vehicle back to Pep Boys. I also opened a case with the online customer service via twitter, and somebody was supposed to get back to me. Well that was 5 days ago now and nobodys gotten back to me. Im not surprised. EDIT. To reply to pepboys, why on earth would I spend more time contacting you, I already did that and nobody replied. Learned my lesson.

Will only put on new tires. Liability.? Guess they probably dont patch tires or put on your winter tires either. Liability ?? Strange world it is now. Our dealer did. I tried them because there closer..

Thanks to the assistant manager Rolland and his techs I was able to get my 2013 chevy silverado 1500 front alignment done. Very appreciative of there efforts and look forward to doing business here in the future.

Went in the Round lake store to get my tire replaced. I was greeted by Tony who throughout the whole process was professional, knowledgeable and very good explaining everything to me. Some of the best customer service I have ever received. I will definitely be back for some new tires soon
