Originally they were great! I had my jeep in for a transmission which I knew was pricy and was okay paying it. I’ve had to take it in 3 times now. First time was 4 days for the first trans repair, 10 days for the second repair on the trans and this last time was a whole month still getting it back without the trans acting fully repaired. When they had it this last time my calls kept being dodged and I received no calls with updates on it, I had to have someone else call in my place to get an actual answer. Nice people for sure, but I just feel like with the 4000 dollars I spent I shouldn’t have had to keep taking it in and having my calls dodged. it’s most likely going to have to go in again being that it’s still not 100% so that’s extremely frustrating. With that, which made me write this review is I go to pick it up and ALL tires are low, the sensor on the right front went out, and it’s telling me so service the tire system. EXTREMELY frustrating considering the shop had the car for a month! Again, great people, and I can totally understand how frustrating it is having to see the same car multiple times and deal with people but I’ve been always kind and understanding and it’s beyond frustrating at this point.

Honesty, professional and extremely well priced. Took my OLD Sierra to them. 233K miles on the transmission. Other shops quoted me a lot higher, some told me too old and would have to replace. Dave and his crew gave me more than a fair price and had it done in two days. I'm a purchasing agent for a local corporation. Lead time and cost are always my No 1 concern. Dave's met both and went above and beyond. Truck runs better than ever before.. If you need any work done, you would be foolish not to give Dave's your business.
Dave is the best, I had multiple issues with my car over the last few weeks and Dave and his team fixed it at a reasonable price and quickly. Would 100% recommend.
I did not have work done there but I had to get towed . The police called for the tow because I was in the middle of the road when my transmission fluid all came out. When the tow truck got there I asked for him to take it to my house. He refused even though it was on his way to daves transmission. The police officer even tried to talk him into it. I had to pay $250.00 cash , (Dave's would not take a credit card) and then I had to get a different towing company to take my truck to my house less than a mile away from Dave's transmission. You should be ashamed . I am a senior citizen and felt like I was wrong because I broke down! It was like extortion! I do not know if that is how Dave's transmission does things or if he accidentally got a jerk for a towing company. But I was told they were nice there.
9/12/24 Update: Very pleased overall. Over the past year of my warranty, I've had to take my vehicle back twice for repairs, but both times they did it without issue. In fact, I brought it in a week before my warranty expired and they didn't even question it. Giving in only 4 stars because I had to bring it back at all. 9/11/23 I had my transmission rebuilt by Dave's a couple of weeks ago. I based ALL my decision making on reviews (decades in business); I had zero face to face interaction from drop off to pick up. Had my car towed there, got a price for rebuilding ($2300), paid over the phone, and picked it up at night. So far so good. They were willing to answer all of my questions over the phone and seemed knowledgeable. "Rebuilt" is such a vague term because nothing specific is done... someone just magically makes your transmission work again. It's hard to trust a new mechanic and even harder to trust a transmission guy IMO. Will update review based on how the transmission holds up moving forward.
Very happy that I brought my work truck here for service. Everyone here that I spoke with was very professional and couldn't of been nicer to deal with or more understanding of my situation. They where very fast to replace my transmission and at less than 20% of what the dealer quoted me. Anyone needing work done, look no further. This is by far the best place to go.
I am very happy with the way things have gone. From the moment my car went in until I got it back. They treated my car and me like it was all that mattered to them . Professional service with professional result. And a price I could afford. Derrick is a very good mechanic and he does VERY good work. This place is a joke, I took my vehicle in to get serviced and they fixed something that had nothing to do with the car being repaired. Every time you call, no one picks up the phone. Full of junk, it s not the cleanest place inside. I m sure those who gave this place high ratings are friends and family of this establishment. I repeat do not bring your car here for service.

Daves, transmissions on fairfield road is the best....called them after a friend told me about them....told me it would be 2k to fix my transmission ...after looking at it he told me i had a smaller trans then they thought and said it would be $1700... i also had them do my brakes ...couldnt be happier...not only does it drive better they told me it would be 5 to 6 days ...called me the next day told me it was all done...absolute great customer service and quality work....before you go anywhere else do yourself a favor and call them ...youll be glad you did
Busy,busy,busy. Dave and Derek are knowledgeable and direct. Many local businesses use their services. 2 locations. They also do other repairs some others dont care to do. Suggest that you consider them .

Had a transmission over temp issue. Was told it was my torque converter and that my transmission needed a rebuild. After bringing my car back four times over a span of 3 months and $1,600, problem still persists and they will not refund any money. Will never bring any vehicle here again.! Also never received a single call.

These are honest folks who fix whats broken and dont try to sell you a bunch of stuff you dont need. Family owned. Most affordable transmission prices you will find. They do all automotive repairs including big trucks and diesel.
Here s the Honest review of Dave s Trans in Round Lake Beach. I drive almost an hour to get there for these guys. Their work on transmissions is second to no one, it shows in their troubleshooting. They honor their one year warranty. I have brought my truck there a few times over the years and they have kept a vehicle from being scrapped. They might not be the fastest, but that s because they are usually super busy. Lastly, they price their jobs FAIR!! Get a quote from a dealership or AAMCO, these guys will be your next phone call.
TOOK MY CAR FOR A LEAKIE TRANSMISSION REPAIR,GOT A CALLED CAR REPAIR COMPLETE DAVE STATED THAT MY OIL PAN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED I NEVER HAD OIL PAN LEAK PROBLEM S,WORK STAFF NOT TO FRIENDLY WITH CUSTOMERS BEWARE.

Pretty bad experience had to get my car oil changed and afterwards my car engine started to have troubles and they used the wrong oil for my engine called for reimbursement but they would threaten to kill me once I had told them they ll be hearing from my lawyers

The owner is a coke head. Steals parts out of your vehicle before you can pick it up. The customer service is garbage and they have a round lake cop working for them. All their reviews are from employees. Scuzzy people, scuzzy service and crooked as all hell.
Took my manual transmission car there for transmission work. They swapped the transmission and installed a new clutch. After I got it back it didnt feel like it was shifting properly. I mentioned it, but they claimed it was fine. I continued to drive it and the transmission blew up after 2 months. I once again mentioned the shifting issue. They replaced the transmission under warranty and gave it back. I was still having the same issue. Thankfully this time I consulted my father in law. He diagnosed the issue in 2 minutes over the phone and was right on! Daves Transmission damaged my clutch master cylinder, preventing me from properly using the clutch. Took the car elsewhere. $250 later my car works the way it should. Daves Transmission is full of amateurs. I wouldnt trust them with a lawn mower, left alone my car. Either they are scammers or they are amateurs, possibly somewhere in between. Dont take your car here if you want it done right
My husband had his transmission rebuilt here. It failed after only 8 months. We wont be taking it back here, thats for sure.

From what I hear most of them are on drugs .So they will try to rob you and add on insane amounts for charges you dont ask for. Then when u go there they will scream at you and try to fight you. Most unprofessional people Ive seen in my life .
Quick response to the cause of the issue (explained it in laymans terms) - concise on how long it would take - I compared pricing for the repair and he was fair - Greeted kindly by the woman in the front office. I appreciate the UNintimidating environment. I will refer you!

Your tow truck driver that was on his was to mendoza grocery store should learn safety while driving. He cut me off with my kids in the back seat and then cut off 2 other cars n failed to yield for the ambulance. Idiots!

We have had to go to Daves Transmission on numerous occasions with problems from rebuilding a 2 transmissions to other problems with our cars. We have always had prompt service, great communication as to what needs to be done, great prices compared to other places and very courteous service. They amaze us with how quickly they get the job done. We have never had any problems and have never had to go back to have them re-fix something. At this point we will always have them do our automotive work for us. Theyre the best.

I took my Ford Explorer to Daves Transmission for some work. He had my truck for three (3) days to change my tires and a tune-up. I continually had to bug him about estimates and the completion of work. He promised me BF goodrich tires, but gave me COOPER Dakota tires, which he optained from Pep boys during buy three, get one for free deal. When I called him to verify the pick-up of my vehicle, he said that it would be ready. When I arrived, my truck was no where near complete. Dave was enjoying his lunch when I asked to speak with him. He told me that he would work on my car and it would be ready in an hour. Actually within that one hour, no one ever worked on my car.. It actually appeared to me that he had the mechanics avoid my car. After an hour his colleague emerged and tried to calm me down..He explained that there were other vehciles that were before me... After a 2.45 hour wait, my car was ready. I will never go there again!! If your looking for customer appreciation and work commitments, seek work else where. Buyer beware...
