Recently, we moved to the Schenectady area after a lifetime on the West coast near San Francisco. I d retired, closed my Auto Repair shop after 41 years, and moved 3,000 miles East with my spouse to be near family. Grasping the fact that I could no longer avoid recognizing that I was a senior citizen, with some mobility and health issues, I manned up and made plans to get the car looked over. Being on the other side of the service counter was a new kid in class sort of trepidation for me, but it is what it is. So we made plans to get the car inspected and serviced. Having heard great things about Ankers Auto Service, we made an appointment. Dave was affable, a good listener, and I was immediately put at ease that this could be a good fit. For the sake of brevity, I will try to only hit the high points. We are talking Old School here. They performed a full service and safety inspection, plus did the NY required annual inspection. They took care of a few small maintenance/repair items and the best part was they gave the vehicle that I had purchased without having a pre-purchase inspection ( out of necessity), a glowing overall bill of health. To say this was a big thing, would be an understatement. No upsells. No You d better sit down to hear the news. What we did get was a bill that was way less than I had anticipated and some flowers to take home to the missus. I think this firm is a Bit of Alright as they say. I don t think that it is allowed, but I m giving Ankers 12 stars anyway and 2 thumbs up. Next visit some body work freshening. Thank You, Ankers Auto Service !!!!

Very unreasonable to deal with. Dave Ankers brought a car to our facility for repairs even though he owns this repair shop. Brought his own parts to us, which we did not recommend installing as they were aftermarket and he wanted us to install and then he tried to make us warranty the parts we did not sell or supply when they failed. He left us a 1 star review despite the fact that he couldnt even repair his own vehicle and did not like what we had to say. Just an FYI we have 4 BMW certified master techs on staff.

So i went up the road to another spot and they were more than happy to help me.seemed a bit selective on who and what they want to service

Well they certainly know how to make a one time visit into a loyal customer! We just moved here and my cars splash guard was dragging. We came here to get it fixed and spoke with Dave. He was able to get us in the next day, was flexible on timing when something came up, and fixed the problem super fast. Then he refused to charge us because it was so quick. Looks like we found our new local mechanic. Thank you again!

Not a good experience Dave told me one price then totally changed the price when I got to the shop without evaluating my car. Dave told me he did alignment in-house, but come to find out, the alignment is done elsewhere. If I knew that to be the case, I would have taken it to a shop that did both the alignment and put the tires on. My tires are vibrating after 55 mph. The balance was not done correctly. I had to go elsewhere and get it fixed and pay again. The website stated 10% off first service, but had to argue with Dave for 10 minutes as he wanted to dictate what that meant. It only stated first service , but because I did not purchase the tires there, he wanted to give me less than the 10%. This is how I found out that he did not actually perform the alignment as he stated that he had to get some money back because I brought in my own tires and he did not perform the alignment. Please let a customer know upfront what services you actually offer as I asked you if you did alignments and you stated yes. He also made a statement about not having this issue with any other customers. My comment to him was that is because I am a woman that sticks up for herself. He said that was not it. I am not sure what he meant but did not care at that point. I would not recommend this shop to anyone!

Went there first time for catalytic converter issue last year. Dave fixed the problem without needing to install a new one and saved me ~$1500. Went there for the second time last week for changing oil and AC repair. I feel the car is much smoother to drive after the service. Very nice people and very professional. Strongly recommended.

I was referred to this shop from a ride share passenger. The staff is awesome and very knowledgeable. I got a brake inspected and an oil change. The oil change was at a reasonable price. I came in as a evening walk in and was allowed to book my next appointment for future work. Will be continuing to come back to Ankers Auto Service and by the way you will receive a beautiful flower as a first customer.

I typically don t leave reviews, much less a 5 star review because I think everyone has room for improvement, but today is the exception to both. A year ago I took my car to one of those chain places for an inspection. They wouldn t pass my car telling me that I needed four new brakes and rotors as well as four new tires . I didn t know about the brakes but I knew my tires were fine as they had less than 20,000 miles on them and I could see for myself that they had good tread left. So I walked out and made an appointment with Ankers who I had heard great things about. Well I did need new brakes but only on the back and my tires were fine. The cost of the back brakes and rotors were almost 1/2 of what the other place wanted to charge per pair. Now , Just this past weekend I had to have my car jumped. Knowing the battery was the original and at least 6 -7 years old I decided to have the battery replaced. Ankers wasn t open so I went to another local establishment who has been in business for years . I was told I needed a new alternator, a new battery and 4 new tires . I may be auto illiterate but I know my car wouldn t have passed inspection again just 2 weeks prior if my tires were bad. Again, I walked out and made an appointment with Ankers for this morning. Lo and behold my alternator was just fine . All I needed was a new battery which I had intended on replacing to begin with . Dave and Ankers are the most honest , efficient and reasonably priced auto service shop In the capital district, and I will never take my vehicles anywhere else again. Did I mention he gives you a beautiful flower when you leave as well ? I was going to be classy and not name drop but wth stay away from Pep Boys and Firestone !! There are still decent honest places out there. Thank you so much Ankers !!!

My family has been coming here for all the work needed on our vehicles for several years. They have always seemed very honest and dont try to upsell us on unnecessary work. They are also very quick on their work, as I have had my car repaired twice this year and got a diagnosis and repair within a few hours! They have always had very reasonable prices, discovered issues I did not even know about, and were able to find solutions to any problems I had. Recently moved to the area, and needed to find a trustworthy mechanic. I scoured the internet for a highly recommended shop, and found Ankers. Made an appointment for an oil change and an overall check up because I had just drove across the country for the move. Dave got me in quickly, was incredibly thorough and knowledgeable, plus his prices were perfectly fair. Dave will be my go-to shop for all of my cars needs from here on out, I was very impressed! Ankers auto saved me in a very tough situation ! My truck lost its brake lines in Schenectady during a move (with mattress strapped to the bed, in the rain..), and had to be towed by AAA on a Sunday afternoon. On Monday I learned from the mechanic it had been delivered to that they could not get me in until four days later ! I had to miss work, get a hotel, and camp out for the night, had no cell phone charger, and was not equipped financially or otherwise to get another three days lodging and miss a whole week of work. After calls to at least 5 other mechanics who all said the same thing, Ankers was the only mechanic that recognized my situation as urgent and was able to make time in their schedule, completing the job by Monday afternoon. Our auto mechanic for the last 40 years recently retired so we were in need of a new auto shop. Our good friends had used Ankers Auto Service so we gave them a try. We couldn t be happier. Dave and his crew are responsive, professional and a great value considering their expertise and very reasonable fees. They were able to get my son s car in on very short notice to replace his front brakes and even buffed a scuff mark off his side door for free before he had to head back to Boston. We were sad to our old mechanic retire but am very glad we found a new home at Ankers Auto!

I bought a used car from a private seller and only had one prior mechanic check up form to reflect back on. So I decided to take it in for a personal checkup and although there were 2 unexpected problems..what had been stated a problem when bought turned out to be the most minor thing ever. So I got to switch out 2 fixes for 2 other fixes so for the most part at least it wasnt a list! But I wouldnt have known this if it wasnt for this shop. They were very helpful and friendly. Answered all my questions and looked at everything I asked for. The prices were very reasonable as well. As a female you always think your going to get hit over the head with the bill.I wish they could fix my other problems as well but thats just more in depth issue :). Overall my car now runs fine and not wobbly. Highly recommend and will be back in the future for anything else! The peace of mind is very well worth it.

Dave was fantastic. He went above and beyond to make sure my vehicle was back in working order. One of the most honest mechanics I ve ever met and he did all the repairs at a fair price. This is not the lowest priced auto shop but will be the most honest auto shop. I have been using so many auto shops in the past who just want to rip me off. The place, will tell you exactly what happened, and will never waste your money. You can fully trust tthem.

Highly recommend as Dave and his team do really great work. My wifes car needed new serpentine belts, sparkplugs and and plug wires. The service was great and the price was reasonable. They also performed a courtesy 27 point inspection of vital areas and topping off fluids. I highly recommend them for your needs as they really care and are honest. This is by far the best all around auto repair shop I have ever been to.

I recently had a NY State Inspection at Monro and they stated that I had a bad Drive Belt Tensioner. They gave me a quote of over $300 without showing me the issue. I asked a friend for a good honest car repair shop and he told me to go to Ankers. Boy am I glad I did! Dave set up an appointment for me so he could look over my car. I brought it in and Dave found no issue with the Tensioner at all! In fact he inspected my car from top to bottom and found no issues and I was not charged a dime! In fact he found a plug for my transmission fluid still sitting on the engine block as Monro failed to put it back in place! Thankfully it looks like no dirt, etc. got into the transmission fluid. If you are looking for a honest, fair, and friendly auto shop I cannot recommend Ankers enough! I am definitely bringing my car there from now on! Thanks Dave!

I Have been an Ankers customer since we arrived in Schenectady 30 yrs ago. His team has serviced all our out of warranty cars from Toyota, Infinity, Audi , Subaru and VW. Always great work and customer service from simple to complex repairs. Hell go the extra mile to stay late to finish a job or provide transportation pickup/drop off. Dave has supported our community orchestra (Music Company) with ads in our program book for many years. Recently, he gave me the 10% discount promised a coupon even though i forgot it at home! New car dealers should come take lessons from Dave and his team on delivery of customer service.

We stopped by because my friends windshield wiper had fallen off and the man working was so extremely helpful and generous to put it on for us. We will be back for other car services because it is clear they have amazing customer service.

They are likely an excellent repair shop but my experience was not good. After explaining the work i needed to have done 3 times, along with why it needed to be done (exhaust leak possibly causing check engine light). I wait 5 days for the appointment and then for some reason they are not comfortable performing the work. This was after he suggested I replace the entire section of pipe (more $$$$) which maybe, functionally what needs to be done but I asked and he agreed to do what I asked (replace the flex pipe) as long as the exhaust piping was in good shape which it is. There is no safety risk involved and I was specially asking for the work. Its unfortunate that I still cannot find a garage to recommend. I will continue to do my own work minus items like welding that I have not learned yet.

When in need of a repair, Ankers is a great place to call. They are honest and reliable. Recently had an exhaust system replaced on a 2004 Corolla and am very happy with the result. Dave called with a detailed estimate including the cost of each part and labor. The job was done with lifetime guaranteed NAPA parts. Dave noticed the headlights were fogged over and offered to buff them out for a very reasonable cost (especially compared to what a dealer would ask). They came out great. I have gone to Ankers many times for large (1999 Camry Radiator Replacement) or smaller issues. I highly recommend Ankers.

Each summer for the last three years, Ive taken my car to a different shop to try to get my A/C fixed. Every shop has charged me an arm and a leg for a short-term fix. Today, I tried Ankers. Dave quickly found the root cause of the problem and fixed it for me. He charged me a little more than the cost of an oil change. He did this quickly (within two hours of dropping my car off), and he also gave my car a 27-point courtesy check. He reminded me that my car was due for brake and transmission fluid flushes (I had completely forgotten!) which I also had him do on the spot when he gave me a surprisingly low quote. Finally, he told me that in a few months I would need new front brake pads, but that there was absolutely no rush. Well, in a few months, when its time to replace the brakes, I will be bringing my car to Ankers. Theyve earned my trust and my appreciation.

2007 BMW X3 successful electronic repair code diagnosis and repair of a wheel speed sensor failure, May 2019. Rust from NY road salt required Ankers to insert a shim for proper gap spacing, saving me the price of replacing the rusting drive train components. Quality BMW repair work at a reasonable price, consistent with prior work they have done for me.

Very elated I found Ankers. I could go on about the two main service places on State St (think mid box store) and the horrible, to downright crazy experiences I have had, to fill up the review. I will not. These guys are honest, customer service is great, and honestly in the one visit, I will trust them with any further car repair or service needs.

Anker Inspected my car for a road trip, and fixed it, making it safe for travel, before I had to leave... even though I was hours late both days (I am so sorry, Dave!). They had to keep it a night (due to my extreme tardiness) buuuut they graciously squeezed it in and had it repaired before the deadline. I am oh so grateful to them! Dave was super sweet, Anker didn t even try to nickle and dime me (even though I m a young lady and have been taken advantage of many of times by other mechanics). Ankers Auto is a place where you can get a fair price, quality repairs and the employees are full of integrity. My car was damaged by a sign that fell on it during a wind storm. The guys at Ankers not only made the repairs that we had agreed to but they went above and beyond; cleaning the paint markings off of my car from the sign and fixing my hood prop for me at no additional charge. Furthermore, the bill was $40 less than I had expected to pay! I recommend Ankers to anybody who needs any work done on their car, they provide excellent customer service and quality craftsmanship, if I need more work on my car in the future I will be back.

I had an issue in my car, went couple of places but estimates were too high. However I just walked into this place with no prior appointment at closing time and they gave me a very cost effective solution and fixed the issue. My car is running safe and fine.. I would definitely recommend this place for car repair and services.

I was on my way to work when I had a flat tire so I pulled into Ankers and was greeted in the parking lot by a mechanic working in the garage before they were open! I left with a replacement and a carnation flower which turned my day around! Dave and his staff seem quick ,honest and hard working- thank you for all your help!

Overpriced. They came up with a list of unnecessary recommended services. This included a recommended battery cleaning for a $50. I cleaned it off myself with baking soda in 3 minutes. They also threatened to fail my inspection if I didnt buy their overpriced generic wiper blades. Asked for Bosch branded and was quoted $100. I told them I would replace them myself and bring it back for re inspection. They then tried to say they wouldnt have time for several days (until the inspection would be overdue). I bought and brought my own wipers before picking up the car. I was hoping to find a good, honest and reasonable local mechanic. I was fairly disappointed. Three stars because Ive had no issues with the work they did.

Good and honest mechanics. Friendly too. Went there twice in the past week. Second time because I didnt listen to the advice they gave me the first time about changing my alternator belt. Well, the belt failed and broke my AC line. Lesson learned. Listen to your doctor.

Ankers auto has repaired three of our cars. Always does an outstanding job for a reasonable price.

I have been with the service for years. It can be unnecessarily EXPENSIVE. So do yourself a favor, always asking a courtesy call before a repair about detailed problems and COST. Allow yourself some comparisons with other garage.

We called to find out if we could bring in our Kia since it would not come out of Park. Dave suggested we look for a hidden part to unlock it which we were not aware of ( not even in manual ) after several attempts & days we finally located it and turned it on.......THRILLED to death since we had little funds for repair work (fixed income) that once we found it IT WORKED,,,,,,,He did a random act of kindness and when we do have another problem we surely will visit such a kind honest knowledgible mechanic.......God Bless Him...!!!

If I had known I could have posted a review I would have done it 2+yrs ago when it happened. My fiancé took his truck in to be fixed, over $3,000 later and it still wasnt running right. 2 months after all that money was put into it the transmission went. Now if they were fixing supposedly everything that needed it, wouldnt or shouldnt they have known the transmission was on its way out. We could have used that money toward a newer vehicle. We ended up getting rid of the car for scrap and buying another one. We will never use their services again.

Ive known that Ankers Auto Service has provided quality automotive service and honest, supportive, friendly customer service for many years, but recently my opinion was reaffirmed. I reside almost three hours away from Schenectady but annually bring my vehicle to Ankers Auto Service for inspection and more. Before my annual visit, my vehicle exhibited trouble with its exhaust. I took my car to be conveniently serviced in my hometown. They told me that I needed a new catalytic converter and the cost would be over $600. Naturally, that didnt sit well with me or my bank account. I called Dave and reported the findings of my local auto service provider. He said that if the catalytic converter needed to be replaced, the quote provided was accurate. He continued to ask me additional questions and explained that given the mileage and years on the car, the converter should be in good condition. He wondered if the flange needed to be replaced instead and recommended I bring the car to him at my convenience. I did. Daves assessment was correct. The catalytic converter was in very good condition but the flange needed to be replaced and he had the kit to make the repairs. Thanks Dave and crew. I go to school in the area and was devasted when my car started having problems. A friend suggested I try Ankers as she had been going there herself for years. The staff were extremely kind and professional and had my car running good as new in no time at all for a great price. They have certainly inspired a loyal customer in me. Highly recommended.
