Update: I had my oil changed at another shop and was informed that the drain plug was dramatically overtightened by Carusos! Fortunately after 15 minutes of fighting it they were able to loosen it but it could have costed me a new oil pan! Avoid this shop!!!!! Edit: They called and left a message with quite an attitude regarding my review assuring me that my car was looked at and telling me to return the call so they can explain things since there was a disconnect in our conversation. Just to be clear, they explained things thoroughly, however regardless, I do not believe them. I m not saying they are terrible people, but rather sharing my experience and feedback. I also felt treated differently being female. It is incredibly difficult being female and trusting a male mechanic already and their attitude made it clear to me they don t have much respect. In addition to not appreciating the attitude I received during my first visit (not a story I m sharing) in addition to the Voicemail. I will not be returning their call because at the moment I have nothing nice to say and won t be returning to their shop for services. Spent over $400 to have an air conditioner, refilled and checked for leaks. 1.5 months later my air conditioner isn t working, again. They asked me to drop the car off for an entire day telling me, I needed to do it as soon as possible so that the dye that is still in the system could be detected. As a small business owner myself, I had to reschedule clients, which meant no income and no car for the day. It is frustrating to have to do but understandable in some cases. The car was dropped off at 8 AM and by 2 PM I had heard nothing so I decided to call for an update. Upon calling I was told my car had just got done being looked at and no leaks could be found. They told me I would have to come back in the spring and have the unit refilled once again costing another 400+ dollars. He also mentioned, because of the rain we have had lately. It probably washed all the dye out of the system. Additionally, he thought someone else originally serviced my air conditioner when it was in fact them. Upon getting back in my car, I noticed none of my settings, including my seat, heater, and even an object on my gear shifter had not moved from its original position. My car was also parked in the exact spot I left it. I m honestly not convinced they even looked at it at all!! My guess is because he told me he wouldn t charge to look at it again so it wasn t a priority. My phone call to them likely reminded them my car was there and instead of telling me they didn t look yet he decided to tell me it s done. I also find it so hard to believe in air-conditioning can lose an entire refill in 1.5 months without a leak being found. Needless to say, I will not be returning.

Expertise at a great price

I found Joel by word of mouth, Id send my grandmother there. He kept our old car running until it was time to say goodbye. My husband and I looked everywhere and couldnt find anything we could afford. He found us a beautiful Eguinox. He sold it to us for ALOT less than it was worth. I know, I had looked. Our car runs like a top and my husband no longer takes the bus to work. If you need work on your grandmothers car I know where to send her. THANKS Joel and staff for all your above and beyond.

Had a leak in my coolent tank, dropped it off in morning and picked it up before close. Tank was replaced, new coolent added. All the work involved was performed at a very resonable price. Great place to take your vehicle for service.

Poor customer service and overpriced! They don t put the customer first! Brought car in to troubleshoot an issue and change brake pads. I was the only customer in the waiting room and watched how long they troubleshooted the car about 15 mins. Mechanic came in and talked about codes and could not identify issue. He then proceeded to discuss with the owner how much he disliked the tint on my car and they had a nice laugh right in front of me. They were not discreet, and I was surprised at how the owner was just joking with him about my car, knowing I was right in front of him. They were going to charge me full-price for diagnostic but I argued that they only did about 15 mins of troubleshooting by my observation. And they did not give me an answer on what the issue was, but suggested something that might fix the issue for around $1500. For brakes, they charged me a hardware fee of around $20 for the brake pad brackets that already come with the kit. They also, suggested other expensive random things to fix all of which I declined. Save yourself a waste of time, headache, and money - Go elsewhere!

Joel provided us with prompt courteous service. My sons 2007 Subaru had a number of warning lights on and was not running right. His shop was able to figure out that the alternator needed to be replaced and was able to complete the repairs right away to get him back on the road the same day. I have been using Carusos Auto Repair since I moved into the area and found them. Joel and his team are incredibly honest - they wont recommend or do work you dont need, and they use the best quality parts and when they do work on your car, the problem is FIXED.

I called to schedule an appointment for a small oil leak and an inspection on a 99 Honda Civic. Basically the guy on the phone stopped me and said while laughing my car is 20 years old and its probobly rotted what did I think they would be able to do? My response was look at the car and give me a quote on the repair cost I did call a garage right? He responded again with well the car is 20 years old and probably not worth it. I said without even looking at it you can tell all of the huh? He said well we can look but... I cut him off this time as I no longer wanted to waste any more of this mans time. They clearly didnt want the work... Maybe I should have asked about the pumpkin spice oil They have been advertising on their sign for the last 2 years.

Ive gone here a few times to get work done on my car. They are always nice a do decent work but sometimes I feel they give you the run around. I brought my car in to see what was wrong with the steering and they checked it and said they would have to look into it further. So I got charged 50 dollars for that but they didnt bother to do anything about the problem. Since I work 6 days a week days and evenings it is hard to find the time to just drop my car off. I only have the one and I had opened up my day to have it fixed. I feel a lot of these shops forget not all of us are fortunate enough to have a spare vehicle. So I usually have to wait while the work gets done. I wish they told me ahead of time that they couldnt invest the time that day to fix whatever might be wrong. So now I would have to take another day off just to have them look deeper into the problem when it could have all been done that day.

This was the first time I brought my vehicle to Carusos on the advice of my father. I had a cylinder that was misfiring, luckily it was one that was in the front and easy for them to get to. I have an older car and I told them to check it over and see if I needed a tune up etc. They could have told me they needed to replace all of the coils and not just one, they could have told me I needed a menagerie of things done, but they didnt. They explained everything that needed to be done now, what I should expect going forward due to the age of my car. I am so glad I came here and they will be my go to service shop from now on.

I took my car in for an evaluation and inspection. Carusos found and fixed a leaky fuel line. They also evaluated some suspicious noises and told me it was slightly corroded brakes but that no service was required at the moment. I appreciated that they didnt try to accelerate the job which might be expensive. I felt the overall bill was fair for the good service rendered.

I believe I was overcharged. I brought my car there. I was given a quote of $979 before tax which included new wiper blades and an air filter. I told them my husband would change the wiper blades and filter. When I picked up the car those items were not included on the bill, but the cost was $969. How could the cost and labor of the wipers and air filter be only $10 less?

My fiance and I have had oil changes, brakes, water pump, NYS inspections, air filters, spark plugs, plugged a tire, rotate tires, a transmission flush and a new radiator. Was experiencing some vehicle trouble on my way to work and called looking to get an appointment. Unfortunately they were booked up, however they still helped me out by answering some questions and concerns I had about what could be going on with my vehicle. Very kind and courteous customer service.

I went to Carusos because I had a major oil leak that I wanted to get checked out. They were very helpful and checked out my problem and found that the oil filter that was installed by Mavis was chipped and was pouring oil out of it. They fixed the problem at a very low cost even with the look over of my engine. A cost of a oil change is way better than what could have been. Highly recommend them for their honesty and great customer service.

Joel is very thorough to make sure the job gets done right, on budget and on time. Joel also takes the time to explain everything, so you have a better understanding of what is happening and are not in the dark. They use quality parts and dont just run down to the local parts store for a cheap replacement. I had to fix my 10 yr old car which was showing up with engine check light. I approached Caruso with a speculation whether to just abandon this car or to invest on it and run it for few more months. That way I can buy some time to shop for a new car. Joel suggested that it would be worth it to invest a 3000$ -- and he was right, Car was fixed very quickly over the weekend (it had major repairs like replacing the timing belt, replacing wheel bearings on two wheels etc.). Car runs nice now and I am very positive that I will get major portion of my investment back when I trade-in in next few months. If you are looking for a honest repair shop look no further. These guys were fantastic. I would highly recommend Carusos to anybody. I had been in an accident that resulted in a damaged rear bumper and muffler and they took care of everything including the body work. I dont like going to new mechanics because I dont know anything about cars and I always feel like I am getting ripped off but these guys were honest, friendly, and answered all of my questions. Outstanding/value/price, and workmanship on my GMC water pump. After finishing the job they heard a strange noise in my drive train. After a quick test drive they put my vehicle back on the lift. They then found a rock wedged in my drive train. They removed the rock at no charge. This rock would have caused approx. $1000 in damage if left undiscovered. I can not thank these pros enough for the extra effort they put into my vehicle. My strongest recommendation for this shop!!!

Whatever you do, do not take your car to caruso s auto for any kind of service. If they think you do not know about cars they will take total advantage. My husband took his 72 Plymouth Satellite Sebring Plus to have his brakes done. They did not even take the tire off he was told they scoped it out, I don t know about you but I know you need to take the tire off when feeling with brakes. They kept his car for weeks because they told him he needed new drums and were unable to find the parts. Eventually my husband was tired of them hijacking his car. He picked it up took it to another more reliable auto body shop and guess what the car had brand new drums the brakes just needed to be adjusted. But new drums is a costly repair and I m sure they were just trying to get the money out of my husband. Again I repeat do not take your car to Caruso s auto you will be sorely disappointed. They were untruthful in what was really wrong with the car.

I always have a wonderful experience at Carusos garage. Always friendly and prompt service. They never recommend an unnecessary part or service. I feel they are not over priced and they send me a reminder when my vehicle is due for service, which i really appreciate. The mechanics there are VERY skilled and up to date with the latest on each car.

I recently moved here from Cleveland and was new to the area, i turned to Google to look for a reliable mechanic, I went through several listing and came across Carusos auto. After reading through the reviews and seeing nothing but positive feedback that dated back several years from satisfied customers I was sold. As soon as I walked in they made me feel very hopeful. I have seen a few mechanics back in Cleveland and they all said it was the battery! Well after several hours they finally figured out what the problem was and why my battery kept dieing and finally got the problem fixed! I am so glad I went to them. Everyone I talked to was super nice, everything was very reasonably priced considering my foreign car, and they fixed the rattling that was driving me nuts. They also have me an honest quote for my brakes, I will definitely be going here again when I need something.

Carusos Auto Repair provided excellent service in diagnosing a problem with my daughters car, they repaired it within 24 hours and were extremely honest and professional. We do not live in Schenectady and were not able to bring her car to our trusted mechanic. I had concerns with taking the car to a repair shop without a personal reference. After researching online reviews I came across Carusos extremely positive reviews and learned about the history of their family business, giving me a level of confidence in calling them about the car issue. They readily understood our situation, diagnosed the problem within 24 hours and as it turned out to be a relatively minor problem, addressed it same day. Carusos communicated well, kept me informed and were extremely trustworthy. I rarely comment on business websites however their service was excellent across the board and Id like to give others in the same situation a level of confidence to trust Carusos with their car. They are a rare find!

I am not one to write reviews but I had an amazing experience at Carusos. I am so happy to finally have found a reliable garage in the Capital District. If I could, I would give more than 5 stars! We dropped off our Nissan to have brake work done. Carusos called us concerned about a gas smell and told us it would be covered under a recall. The Nissan dealership told us it wasnt covered, but Joel went above & beyond to prove to them otherwise. Long story short, he saved us hundreds of dollars! Its a relief to have a mechanic that we actually trust. They definitely earned lifetime customers today :) Thank you Joel & all the staff at Carusos!

Carusos is incredible. Honest, friendly and knowledgeable. I have a 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan that died an epic and premature death, and they brought it back! Not only did they bring it back, it runs better than it did before the engine died. I rarely give five star reviews, but I went to Carusos because they were recommended by one of my co-workers when my car had overheating issues and a leak. They are very helpful and get your car in and out as quickly and safely as possible (how quickly of course depends on how easy it is to find and fix the problem) and tell you what they found and how much everything would cost before taxes. If your car needs anything, I highly reccomend them.
