Sterling's customer service is exceptional. Rob is super helpful and knowledgable. They go above and beyond. Highly recommend!
It’s hard to find a shop that knows how to treat cars. I always get the best service and they take great care of my cars. My new go to shop!
Called to ask a simple question after purchasing a vehicle there (with the help of a friend who does massive amounts of business with them with multiple cars) and Rob was very abrupt and rude. I have had MANY substantial problems with the car I purchased there, but didn’t want to do a negative review, but today made me feel differently. If I cannot call and ask simple questions and not get a negative attitude then I think people should be aware of it.
Could not reccomend a more honest bunch of guys. They went out of their way to make sure I wasn't doing a service that was unnecessary. I had my car towed to them from the automaster, which quoted me $5700 for a timing chain service. I decided to have my car sent out to them for a second opinion, and boy am I happy I had it sent to them! The guys were swamped with work, but got me in very quickly, and steered me in the right direction. They highly reccomend against doing the timing chain service, because it was unnecessary; knowing they couldve made a quick stack of cash off of it, they held true to their honesty. These guys really know their stuff, and will steer you in the right direction. They have gained a lifelong customer due to their honesty, and taking time out of their busy schedule, to make sure I felt comfortable driving away with the car. 5/5, scratch that, 10/5 service! Could not reccomend them more. Thank you guys for your honesty and service that you have put out for me.
I had rob attempt to fix my 545 bmw over the course of about a year, probably 5+ visits. They were trying to fix a “parasitic draw”, said they had to swap out solenoids to figure out which one was drawing the power. Took months and months, replaced alternator, multiple new batteries. Getting stranded in the cold every-time I went to use my car. In the end it was just the wire had worn through and was touching the frame and drawing power… apparently they couldn’t figure it out in a year of checking this thing out every 3 weeks. Just embarrassing to say you fix cars and couldn’t find such a basic and easy thing…. That’s textbook and rob and his crew couldn’t figure it out after about 9 grand. They told me they could figure it out but it’s going to cost potentially thousands of dollars more and we could end up not finding the issue….So It had been the whole school year at this point I had given them thousands of dollars, they called me dr as a joke when I came in that’s how much money I had given them…. So the car ends up dying for good in my driveway at home, I had no money for a new car because these guys would rather take money from a 20 year old kid than actually fix an issue. My dad’s car also died and was donated, so I told him if he could fix my old bmw he could have it. He took it to a local guy in Gloucester ma who fixed it first try and some other stuff for about 600$. If you’re thinking about getting your car fixed here. Just know it might take 6 months, thousands of dollars just to have another guy who ACTUALLY knows bmws figure it out in about 20 minutes. Just sad set of business ethics, poor mechanics, that like to take advantage of literal college kids just because they drive a bmw. Can’t imagine how many other people he has taken advantage of. When I called to confront him asked why he did this, he said I’m sorry for being human. A human doesn’t over charge a child on basic mechanical issues and drag it out to never end up fixing the issue. You apologize and say we’re sorry for promising to do something you didn’t do. That’s all. You just happily told me you thought you could figure it out this time. And then nope. Multiple times. Go read a book and fix Honda’s if you can’t actually fix a bmw after almost 8000$ is spent with your shop. The car cost 10k….
From my first interaction with this business, I was impressed with their professionalism. I called and spoke with Nicole regarding my Volkswagen with 73,000 miles that was having engine issues. The VW dealer quoted me $10-12,000 and 4-6 weeks to replace my engine and said that was the only thing possible to repair the car. That seemed unreasonable to me and I started searching for another option. Sterling Motors came highly recommended so I had my car towed from Montpelier to South Burlington in hopes that they could do something for me. I was not disappointed. Sterling Motors was able to figure out within one hour of labor that they engine was not shot and needed much less drastic repairs. They were able to fix my car for $2000 within a week. I highly recommend Sterling Motorwerks and enjoyed my experience with Nicole and Rob.
Scott and Mike have been my mechanics for literally 30 years, since my first Saturn. I have depended on them so many times over the years and they have never failed me. They are honest, fair, and do whatever they can to make sure you are getting the best options for your money. I trust them completely and have never been disappointed. They have gone over and above so many times I can't even count. Their customer service is top notch. (shoutout to Rob, too!) I highly recommend them for anything you need!
Super happy I found Sterling here in Burlington. I've been driving European cars, some very old and some very new, for 25+ years, and have had many good and bad experiences with shops throughout all the years and all the cars. Sterling ranks among the top of the best of them all and honestly provides better professional service and work quality than a lot of dealerships (especially in this area.) They're really responsive, helpful, and professional. Wouldn't bring my AMG anywhere else in Burlington!
Fantastic service and incredibly helpful staff - cut above the rest in the Burlington area
Been there several times for service, they are always happy to help! Good prices, good availability, and very flexible with me picking up and dropping off my vehicle.
The Class no non-sense service!
Great service and great people!
Sterling Motorwerks is grossly negligent in the maintenance of their loaner cars. They put us in a loaner vehicle with failing brakes and an expired inspection sticker. If this is how they care for their customers cars, I would take your car ANYWHERE ELSE than here. Their negligence endangered the safety of my family. STAY AWAY.
We love Sterling Autowerks. Rob and team are so knowledgeable and helpful and really lovely individuals too. Their professionalism and client communication are exceptional. It is great having a garage that we trust and like so much ! Whether you are local like us or new to the area, Sterling is a gem for service and overall experience.
These folks are good! No wonder they are busy - no BS straight shooters who are very knowledge about Audis. We tend to buy nice Audis and keep them a long time. I first found them from the reviews when I needed to make a major unplanned pit stop. Had AAA flatbed the car to them. They got to me as soon as they could and got the repair right. Theyre at the top of my go-to list going forward...
Had a major repair done. They were able to fit me in earlier than initially scheduled. Went to pick up to car over the weekend, but the engine light was still on when I turned the ignition on. I Left the keys again for the shop to look on the following Monday, ended up being a loose connection in a wire. These guys delivered the car to me in Montpelier to make it right. Other shops wouldn t have gone that extra step. This commitment to the customer is how you turn a negative experience into a positive Google review! Thank you!
I had a major breakdown on my way back from NY headed home to Maine, running on three cylinders, after speaking with Rob and Scott for a short time I knew this was where my car had to go. Had my VW GTI towed to them and they had it diagnosed and repaired much quicker than I expected and it has never run better. Thanks guys!
Used the services provided twice and each time impressed with the quality of work and the knowledge of the technicians.
It was worth every penny I spent @Sterling recently to fix a confounding electrical issue another service provider could not. Rob, Scott and the crew were thorough, professional and good-humored in making the repairs, explaining them and following through for a ride to and from their impeccably clean and efficient operation. The won me over as a regular customer!
Awesome people and service. Love them.
Excellent work on my 2012 Jetta. Would recommend!
Nothing but the best service from the team at Sterling Motorwerks. I spoke with Rob in the office a few times about looking over my car and he was very helpful and knowledgeable about everything. They looked at my car the next day and got back to me with honest feedback and answers. They didn t try and push extra service or do work without my knowledge. Highly recommend them!
These guys are true masters if their craft. I travel a good distance just to being my car here, the quality if work and professionalism is worth it.
Just had my 05 BMW Z4 serviced with Sterling. I had an annoying squeak in the front end that they were able to resolve that others did not. The provided awesome communication and transparency with my service. And they kept to the schedule they promised. I would highly recommend them for your Germany motor toys! Thank you Sterling.
Friendly service, fair and transparent prices. Will always give you the options available to you and will always explain what exactly is wrong. They offer a shuttle service which makes day time appointments convenient. Highly recommended.
Quick, friendly and honest service!
These folks are always great. Been coming here for years.
I was very impressed with the service at Sterling Motorwerks. They were very professional and knowledgeable about my very specific issue. I m sure it would ve taken another shop much longer to diagnose it. Highly recommend
Straight forward and no BS.
One I bought a 2001 Volkswagen Jetta that only had 98000 miles and after 2000 miles the engine had a cylinder 3 and 4 misfire causing me to spend an additional $5,000 on top of a Volkswagen Jetta that books for $5,000 what a rip off nothing was done for the air conditioner that was broke prior to buying a car as well I dont recommend this place unless you want to put a lot of money into a decent car
Sterling came highly recommended to me and now I know why. Their quality customer service convinced me that they genuinely care about the people in their community. If youre looking for auto technicians you can trust, you just found them.
Highly recommended. Friendly, knowledgeable, trustworthy.
Ive brought my car to these guys for everything from an oil change to my window suddenly dropping down and not coming back up - they always take care of my car with the utmost level of professionalism. I have never brought it in and been told there are magically 10 things wrong with my car and I should get X,Y,Z fixed immediately like dealerships Ive brought it to in the past. In fact, the first time I brought my car to them, I had an issue with my high beams not working consistently. They told me if I really wanted to fix them, it would be $____, but that I didnt NEED to do it, and they showed me how to make them work most of the time. Id never heard that from a repair place before - these guys are the best. (PS, I did end up fixing them, because it drove me crazy after a few months.) They really know their cars, especially European makes, and I wouldnt bring my car anywhere else.
Had to get a few things serviced on my BMW X5 and couldn t have been more pleased with the service. Not only was everything promptly and efficiently fixed, but the employees were beyond my expectations for quality care. Extremely thorough with customers and definitely a great value. Very genuine group of people who are there to serve everyone in the most professional and genuine way. 6/5 stars!
Professionalism and dealership quality without price or pressure
These guys are great! All the mechanics at Sterling are very knowledgeable and professional, and will provide you and your car with premium service. To Everyone at Sterling, Thank you!
Check their facebook page reviews, I put pics of the damage they caused in the comments and on their yelp Im not happy to be leaving this place a 1 star review, but when all is said and done that is what they earned. 1st off the guys here are very nice, thats why I wish things went differently. I brought my 2002 Mercedes to them for some work because they were recommended to me by another shop. The work was completed correctly and couldve equaled a 5 star review despite never once calling me, I called for each and every update except when it was finally done and it was time to pay. That was only mildly annoying but not worth a bad review, so why the 1 star..... they messed up the paint on both sides of the car with this plastic film they put on it since the battery ran out before they pulled it in and the windows were down and rain was coming. When i dropped it off one issue was the fan for the AC kept blowing even when the key was out and the car was locked. So when I mentioned this to them I asked should I roll up the windows and bring in the key because right now it is turned to the on position. Side note ignition was also bad so having it turned was to make it easier for them to bring it in. I picked up the car after they worked on it on 8/3 brought the car in on 8/6 to show them what happened to the paint. They were closed that Friday, Saturday and Sunday so that was literally the soonest possible to bring it to their attention. Anyway they took pictures and said theyd get back to me after they spoke to the powers that be. Well I called today and what do you know, they wont do anything to fix their mistake and told me I shouldve put the windows up, again I offered to do just that when I dropped it off. So while the work was done correctly it wasnt worth it since the car now has multiple panels where the clear coat is just gone. Sadly I wont be giving them any more of my business and I wont be recommending them to anyone. I wish I could include pictures of the damage which they acknowledge clearly came from where the plastic was placed! This review will be updated if they own up to it... but for now 1 star it is. Now Im off to leave this same review everywhere else possible. To think when I brought it and mentioned the recommendation they told me they worked hard for that reputation. Oh well, never again!
A friendly staff that works with you and does great work!
Great service and good pricing!
By far the best service you can get in Vermont (if not all of the US!). These guys not only know their stuff about cars, but their customer service and friendly demeanor turns what could be an unpleasant time (dealing with car issues), into the best car service experience I have ever had. Everyone I have recommended them to also feels this way! By the way they handle situations, offer options, and perform the best car service around, they will be in business for a long time, and I am a loyal customer for life!
Scott and Rob took good care of me when stuck out if town.....repaired my car...very professional
got my oil changed and more under an hour great place!
These guys are the best in town. Ive had a couple of issues with my Subaru and they have always been extremely honest and fair. I much prefer them to any dealership. I am moving cross country soon and I wish I could take them with me!
Great for routine maintenance on Audis and VWs. Anytime I need work done on a foreign car of mine I bring it to sterling. Very knowledgeable staff here too, they know what theyre doing to say the least.
If you have an older German car, you absolutely cant go wrong by coming here for service. Mike is one of the top Audi techs in the country. They arent the cheapest, but they warranty all their work for a whole year, are friendly, and knowledgeable. Ill gladly pay a slightly higher labor rate to know my car is in the best place for the work at hand. Highly recommended!
Great service. Friendly, knowledgeable people.
Great shop. Great guys. Highly recommended.
Great first time experience with Sterling. My daughter is away at school and had some car issues. Rob was able to get her car in on short notice, the issue was quickly diagnosed, the repair was completed by the afternoon, and at a very reasonable price. This all while I was 175 miles away. My daughter said they were all nice guys and they even shuttled her back and forth. Sterling definitely lives up to its name!
Recently had my rear main seal replaced on my vw cc. I expected a shop to charge me 15-20 hours of labor plus parts. They fixed it in less than 8!!!They even filled my windshield washer fluid at no extra charge to me. Extremely friendly customer service i will be bringing my car back to them in the future for all the projects i do not wish to do myself.
Phenomenal customer service! I highly recommend Sterling. First off, let me say that I know almost nothing about cars. So I could easily be taken advantage of by an unscrupulous mechanic. But Sterling is more than just the good customer service of simply being fair and honest. They went above and beyond for me! First, the amount quoted for a recent repair was much lower than at a different shop. Then, I was told it came in under estimate. To cap it off, they went the extra mile to fix an additional problem and made sure I left happy and with everything working well. Kudos to co-owner Scott and his staff. They are great people. And Sterling has earned a loyal customer. I really cant say enough good about them.
To those of you in the area who own Volkswagens or Audis: We had a crisis with our TDI last week and Shearer VW was telling us that we were looking at a massively expensive repair (were talking around $5,000). I didnt trust the guy in the service dept. because he had come to this conclusion without running any diagnostics or putting the car on the lift to make a definitive assessment. Knowing that I could just be digging myself a deeper financial hole, I took a recommendation from a mechanic that I trust and paid $85 to have the car towed from Shearer to Sterling Motorwerks in S. Burlington. They got the car in within 24 hours, ran diagnostics, completed the work successfully and charged $285 (this included a quarter tank of Diesel). Its hard to find garages that you can trust but these guys, by simply being honest, earned a customer for the life of our VW and any future German cars that we own. I highly recommend using them. And, yes, I put regular gas in the TDI and drove it 10 miles. I am an idiot.
The professionals at Sterling Auto Werks have brought the pride of ownership back to my driving experience. Every time I bring my car in for scheduled service I come away feeling that Im driving away in a brand new car! Not because expensive repairs were made but rather because the maintenance suggestions made to me were precise and reflected a clear knowledge of the most cost effective way to keep my car in tip top shape. My Audi is celebrating its tenth birthday and I couldnt be happier that I invited Scott, Phil and all the other specialists at Sterling to the party!
Recently I got in my Audi TT and tried to put it into gear, to my discontent the car refused to go into gear. Knowing from previous diagnoses, the clutch master needed to be replaced. I was referred to Sterling Motor Werks by a friend and thought I would see what they are all about. So I called and spoke to Rob who promptly put me into the schedule and gave me a quote that turned out to be very accurate (which is rare nowadays). I brought my car in and it was finished the following day. When I came in, to pick it up I was greeted by Rob, whom I spoke on the phone with, and he gave me an overview of what work was done as well as what other work he recommended to be done. The car drives great again thanks to the wonderful work from the guys at Sterling Motor Werks. I would recommend Sterling to anyone who needs mechanical work done to his or her European car.
I have had great experiences with Sterling in the past, and always felt that they gave me fair and honest quotes. However my last interaction with them was quite a different story, and I will not be returning or recommending them to others in the future. I had received a quote from them that I felt was very high, and put some feelers out for competing quotes. I found two other specialists who were quoting well under their estimation (around $400!!), and after Sterling was unwilling to negotiate I decided to take my car elsewhere for service. I realize that this was not ideal for Sterling and I dont expect them to be thrilled about it, but do expect them to be professionals. This however, is not the treatment I received. They bullied me into paying them an hour for their estimate ($80), which I felt was a bit dramatic, but I paid without argument. They then continued to tell me that they took the front end of my car apart, and asked if they could have it towed in pieces. When my car was towed to a different shop the other mechanic went out of his way to tell me it was completely unnecessary for them to take my car apart as they did, and that they (conveniently) did not include any of the bolts to put it back together.
Polite, friendly, respectful, and managed to squeeze me in. I told Scott what I knew my car was doing and then told him what I needed fixed. He fixed what I asked him to fix and didnt try to scare me into repairs that arent an emergency and I cant afford. He did remind me that I need an oil change soon, but didnt push it. Quick, friendly, affordable service and they didnt even move my seat!
