Whalens (Donna, in particular) found a tire for my car that had been discontinued. Donna researched and located one, which she ordered. It was at the garage the next morning and promptly put on. That kind of timely service is unique and commendable.

I was having fuel economy issues and I went to multiple garages asking if they could fix it. Most of them said theres nothing wrong with the car. One made me waste $250 changing my spark plugs. This was the last place I wanted to try before giving up. They seemed confident they could detect the issue. I was pleasantly surprised when they called back 2 days later with the diagnosis. They managed to to figure out what was wrong with the car, when 4 other garages failed, and some just refused to look into it altogether.

I cannot say enough good things about John and his crew. I initially went in for a simple oil change, which is when John relayed some concerns he had about my vehicle. He explained things clearly to me and made sure I understood why he recommended the services. My brakes were replaced, which should have happened a long time ago. They also fixed the death rattle on my car, that SEVERAL other mechanics had told me wasn t fixable. Prior to meeting John, the answer I received regarding the vicious rattle my car did when driving 70+ was your dodge dart just does that. John said no way. He replaced my wheels and tires, and gave it a full alignment. The rattle is GONE, like magic. I lived with a shaky car for years!! I can drive in peace and not worry about my car falling apart, it drives so smoothly. Money well spent. I will never bring my car anywhere else now. Thank you so much John and team!!!

Engine light was on for over a year. I had to go back to the BMW dealership 6 times and the light kept coming back so I tried Whalen since a friend said they were amazing. The light hasnt been back since I got my car back, I almost forgot what it was like to drive without it staring at me. Donna was amazing and she offered so much help and explained everything clearly. Everything was written down on the invoice. She also followed up to see if the light came back on.

A half-hour into my drive from Hoosick NY to Maryland, a loud scary noise developed from the rear wheels area. I pulled over in Troy, googled Auto Repair Near Me, and 15 minutes later my car was being diagnosed at Whelan Automotive. I was dreading what I was about to hear, when John showed me what was left of a metal guard that protects the brake assembly. It had corroded and was loose in the wheel well, scraping against the wheel. John removed the guard, charged me for 15 minutes labor, and I was on my way home! The rest of the drive was fine. I greatly appreciate the promptness, honesty, and desire to help that I experienced at Whelan Automotive. What was looking like a very stressful and expensive day turned out to be the best car-care experience Ive ever had. Thanks John!

Whalen saves you money! Went in for an oil change and tire rotation, and while there, they checked my brake fluid and suggested replacing it. Thought it was a bit soon, but I do a lot of local driving so Im sure it needed it. Later my brother explained that brake fluid is hydrophilic (attracts water) and that can make it cloudy and rusty in appearance. So while it was $80 I wouldnt necessarily have spent, I know that clean/fresh fluids extend the life of moving parts and saves me money in the long run! Thanks, John and crew, for always taking good care of my Subies - 15 year customer.

I have been going to Whalen Automotive for three years now, and I continue to be impressed by them! I bring my car in regularly for oil changes, tyre rotations, and preventative maintenance. Every time, I am greeted with a smile and treated like family. They are straight-forward with what (if anything) has to be done, will let you know what needs to be done, what should be done, and what may need to be done in the future. Sooo Whalen just refused to work on my car at all due to it s year despite money being no object. When auto repair is your livelihood I feel its extremely irresponsible and ludicrous to turn down business. Would give zero stars if I could.

If I could give this place a negative-0 I would let me start off by saying this place is horrible now at first John seemed nice over the phone but when my car was there I was being charged 90$ for looking at it 400$ for spark plugs and one coil. Never mind my original issue of my exhaust that was another 400$ this place is ridiculous in price and there rude my parts were not that much at all at Autozone and Napa mind you this is my first time at this place which was the first thing he asked me over the phone so then after I say I d call him back and let him no he decided he was being yelled at which was a complete lie at no point did I even raise my voice let alone yell we had a whole conversation about my car on the same call there s was no complaints about me being loud before he had a issue givin me the break down of how much each part cost huffy and puffin over the phone then told me to come in if I wanted to no the break down when he new I was working. Mind you he was the one yelling over the phone I became immediately worried about my car being damage more. you see reviews about him being so nice that s a lie maybe he s nice to people he no his friends the ones that are ok being ripped off but he is not a good guy at all. Accusing someone of yellin because your not satisfied with my choice treating a new customer like they don t matter People are just not good people these days everybody wants to take advantage instead of being honest and pleasant. what a huge mistake I made going off the good reviews for this place. I ignored the bad reviews because it had a lot of good ones but lesson learned for Anyone who is thinking of bringing your car here because of all the good reviews you see the devils a liar trust me DONT! Go on Yelp that will show You the bad reviews on google it only shows you the good reviews and one bad review which is the one I ignored about a tune up. but there s way more bad reviews use Yelp to see them. let me just say I don t like writing reviews but after this experience this is the worst auto shop I ve even been to in my life and I m almost 50years old I had to write this people need to know your going to be ripped off ridiculously they don t deserve your money your time it is not worth the aggravation. Brought my 2005 Hyundai Tucson in for some lock work and a dashboard light that my regular place couldnt figure out after many attempts. They repaired some minor stuff, some major stuff and discovered an after market LED brake light that was reeking havoc on my electrical system. It took a couple visits in short succession but they got to the bottom of it. Whalens will be my new regular place. Also, its easy to get to, the waiting room is clean-has books!, the staff is friendly, and you can request an appointment on their website.

I smelled the gas, but another garage could not detect it! Reliable, knowledgeable, reasonably priced, and friendly service. Cant ask for more than that. John takes the time to clean calipers, for instance, when replacing brake pads and rotors, i.e., he does NOT just phone it in when working on a car.

John and his team have taken care of our cars for 14+ years. Reasonable prices ($85 per hour for labor), great work, always willing to accommodate our schedule, friendly and warm service. They have a nice waiting area with coffee and wifi if you need to wait, or if youre close enough John is usually willing to give you a ride back while they work. Highly recommended.

Having been with W.A. for nine years Ive always found their work to be superior, their prices fair and their detailed explanations both informative and they justify the work and price they recommend.W.A. has saved me money by keeping our car and truck in top running condition allowing us to keep our vehicles for over 100K (my 2004 Silverado), 200k (our 1989 Honda Accord) and 300k (my 1969 Chev panel truck) miles respectively. Anyone who writes a terrible review of W.A. may be the dishonest one. As for price, their prices per hour are posted and are industry standard and their parts cost in line with every other shop Ive dealt with in the past.
