Auto Repair shops need to have INTEGRITY, HONESTY, and Good CRAFTMASHIP . PAT BARRET TRANSMISSIONS HAS IT . Rich is old School Mechanic that will tell you HONESTLY What can be done . Suffice to say, if you bring you car there you will be treated fairly . Ed
Rich & crew replaced the 46RE trans in my 1999 Dakota RT. Previous shop: was Gold Seal, closed, in Upper Saddle River. Big trans, 5.9 engine and a tight fit. A Perfect job, + reversed flowed the trans cooler. 4 years later, it runs perfect, driven 366 days a year, towing, and loaded with tools or heavy Home Depot items. Repeat customer, I travel from Long Island for this shop and I'm frequently stuck in traffic for hours on the GW Bridge. Trans: never over-heats, and shifts perfect.
Rich and his crew are VERY knowledgeable, VERY professional, and straight shooters. Potentially saved me from spending thousands of dollars by correctly identifying a problem another place couldn’t, and quickly! I cannot recommend them enough and I will absolutely be coming back if my car needs other work. THANK YOU!!
DO NOT GO HERE!!! I left my review below with what these people did to my car already. I’m coming back for the second time because rich decided to call me and proceed to tell me how Honda is wrong and he’s being working on cars for 40 years. On top of that proceed to hang up on me and curse at me. And claim I started cursing at him first. On top of that rich then proceeds to tell me “ it’s a legal law when your car is messed up and I fixed it you have to bring it back here “ these people are delusional and don’t know what they are doing nor what they’re talking about! Once I called back the second time after they hung up on me twice and informed them I was recording our conversation they hung up on me a third time. And incase they want to reply and say this never happened email me and I will gladly send you the voice recordings of our conversations. save yourself and your car DO NOT GO HERE! Secondly let’s address there reply. To my original post Yes I did bring them my car and yes the clutch was wasted seeing as I bought the car from someone used and they were informed of this on top of the fact that I was bringing my own parts all brand new. When the car left yes it did work for a while but if they took the time to read they would see they adjusted the pressure on my clutch petal meaning it was wearing the clutch down quicker. Also when I left there shop that day they hadn’t connected the sensors in my car back so half way home I noticed I couldn’t even see my speed. I had to turn around and go back to the shop for them to plug in said sensors. Also these people have a personal beef with Honda because they assume everyone must go to the same Honda dealership. I took my car into Honda not thinking it was a clutch issue because it had just been fixed 8-9 months prior. I know how to drive a manual car they should learn how to work on them considering there only argument is “ I’ve been doing this for 40 years “ well you’ve been doing it WRONG for 40 years And also notice they reply to continue to argue. I just stated my opinion that’s all. 1. They called me and proceeded to argue and curse at me as I showed in my picture. 2. I actually did record the whole conversation and he proceeded to continue to hang up on me multiple times and curse at me. My driving skills are fine these are old men who can’t evolve with time they don’t know what they’re doing.
DO NOT BRING YOUR CAR HERE!!! It will absolutely be the worst thing you ever did! SAVE YOURSELF ! Got my clutch replaced with them about 8-9 months ago. Car started giving me issues to go into gears so I took it to Honda. Honda removed the transmission and showed me proof that “ pat garrett transmissions “ adjusted my pressure in my clutch petal causing the clutch to be worn down quicker. On top of that there were burn marks from the amount of pressure being applied and my flywheel had to be resurfaced. And the pressure plate was flatted as you can see in the photos . These people are a total scam! And I will be taking legal action against them seeing as Honda provided me proof with photos. Ridiculous!
The Honda dealer told me that “my transmission was NOT repairable and needed to be replaced for $4400.00. “. Richie at Pat Barrett Transmission looked at the car and repaired it in about 1 hour. SAVED me over $4000.00. This shop is personable and COMPETENT. WELL WORTH THE TRIP.
Got $700 worth of work done last July, and the car broke down again a few weeks later. Four months later, the slave cylinder they gave me already had to be replaced. This place was recommended to me for their knowledge of manual cars, but they took me for an expensive ride.
Rich rebuilt my 2001 Ford E250 work van transmission in 2 days and on my drive home the van worked like new again. He explained what happened and showed me the broken parts. His shop is neat and organized and he has a level of skill and knowledge that you just can't find today.
Great Service. Pinpointed the issue immediately and squeezed me in at the last minute. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. Very Professional and friendly
World Class
Honest, reliable work. Highly recommend
Experts Top to Bottom. Nick is the Best. Decades of experience. True pros. Not many shops like this around anywhere. Highly Recommend.
I appreciate Rich giving an honest opinion on my transmission.
Did a great job in a timely manner with a great price!
If youre ever in need of transmission service or diagnostics, Pat Barrett Transmissions in Westwood, NJ is fantastic. Rich and his team will go above and beyond to help you. Its rare to find service people who are so honest, competent and helpful.
I had a phenomenal experience getting the issue diagnosed then fixed. Responsive, communicative, fair, and kind. Best there is!
Quick and efficient service. Fair prices.
Honest and efficient! Highly recommend!
Great shop. They know what they are doing.
Edit: Fixed my problem while scuffing up my paint and dripping transmission oil all over the place inside and outside. Im still upset months later.
Only shop to accurately diagnose my problem. Reasonable priced timely old school place. In my opinion the best transmission place in northern Jersey. jeff
Rich is amazing. Honest, accomodating, and fair. Highly recommend
Had van trans repaired there decades ago remember good job and price
I ve had many experiences with this location and specifically with Rich in regards to some of my vehicles concerns with shifting. He willingly took the vehicles out for a test drive and either confirmed my fear or put me at ease with the normality of the vehicles wear and tear in age. I recently took in my commercial dump truck because the dipstick was broken and he repaired it quickly and a very reasonable rate. Several days later the truck was shifting a bit funny he took it for a test drive and it seemed OK I drove it a few miles down the road and I was not able to get the truck in to drive I had it towed to his shop and within a very quick timeframe the vehicle was diagnosed and the entire transmission was redone professionally and properly the truck drives better than I ever imagined as the previous owner had just put a brand new $5500 transmission in it and it had failed. He was very quick with his services his guys are all incredible his pricing is on point and I will continue to refer everyone and anyone who needs transmission work to this shop thanks again guys for an awesome service
Knowledgeable, neat and quick. Did all that was promised and very reasonably priced
Needed to change the fluid on my transmission Mercedes e350 2014 Dealer wanted $850-$1100 They did it for under $150 and used my parts. Lifesaver worth the trip Follow up review, car shifts smooth and no issues-
in June of 2021 i had my transmission rebuilt, before i went there the transmission was missing two forward gears and barely shifted into second, truck was miserable, they rebuilt the unit, and upgraded it. when i greenlit the rebuild they were busy, but even then, the thing spent maybe a day and a half on the lift, i stopped by on the first day before they closed and they showed me everything and explained the situation, something not many other techs would do. i recently sold that truck, and the thing i miss most was that rebuild, by far the best ive ever driven. Was an incredibly smooth and almost unnoticeable transition between gears when driving normally, but when you gave it some throttle, it shifted into every gear without skipping a beat. For the amount of work they did, it was absolutely worth every penny, and in the coming years, i will gladly continue to be a customer and recommend my friends to be customers as well.
Worst customer service
I have worked in service for dealerships 20+ years and when my Yukon trans failed, Pat Barrett Trans was the only place I considered. Rich was outstanding to work with. He rebuilt my trans and had me back on the road within 48hrs. Not the cheapest but remember you get what you pay for. Job well done Rich!
Honest people that produce quality work at a fair price!
Pat and his team at Level 10 have been nothing short of amazing for us. From service to actual products his transmissions have been flawless. Look them up and tell them Team Venom Racing sent you!
Just Perfect place for Transportation service.
Very friendly knowledgeable staff
The Place For GREAT TRANSMISSION Work !
I have rebuilt a lot transmissions in my life but Pat Barrett is the best place. They do the job right the first time. A bit pricey but you get what you pay for so dont mess around. Just go here and you dont have to worry. My Yukon was in and out in a couple of days. Super friendly. I wouldnt go anywhere else...
Excellent service
They were very nice, informative, very helpful and reasonably priced.
Had our car towed into Pat Barrett ...Rich checked it out , was totally honest about what a small fix it was. Charged hardly anything for the repair. Recommend highly!
Rich helped us out at a better price than another local place. Good service, nice guy, no complaints!
The last honest mechanics on earth! Brought in my Nissan Murano with a loud rumble in the rear differential. The local Nissan dealer wanted $3500 to fix the problem. That wasnt going to happen. Took the car to another local mechanic who tried to convince me the transfer case was bad. Not convinced, I found these guys on the Internet and gave it a shot. Spoke with Rich, who I think is the owner. He was very accommodating and told me to bring the car in anytime. So I did. He gave me a no fee consultation, and simply by driving the car, he knew what the problem was. Unfortunately for me, it was the rear differential electric coupler, which was a $1200 part new. Stressed for money, I asked Rich if he would be amenable to installing a used rear differential from a junkyard. To my surprise, he said OK. Fast forward to a week later, I have my Nissan Murano back in one piece. She drives great, and PB Transmissions did the fix for less than half what the Nissan dealer wanted to charge me! I was extremely pleased with the level of communication, the courtesy, and the price. I highly recommend these guys for any drive train related problems.
Great friendly service! Charged me half of what the dealership was asking to replace the governor sensor in my transmission and my Jeep was ready same day. Would highly recommend.
